Orange Knight
I've owned many Landraiders in the past, and the most recent 40k variant I purchases was well over 10 years ago. Even then the kit was really showing it's age. Do we think a new one is coming in the next edition? I want the model for a particular list I'm building but they are still very expensive... Lathe Biosas
The only thing I know about the Land Raider is that it's Online Only on the Warhammer.com webstore. I'm honestly unsure myself of buying one of them, or a lot of the First Born vehicles (Whirlwind, Rhino, Predator, Razorback, etc.). That's why I'm sticking to the new stuff for now. I've been burned before. Cleon
Unless you are locked in on the 'smooth brick' look, the HH Land Raider carrier is a much nicer kit and is fully wysiwyg to the 40k one if built with that in mind? Update. The only thing that's smooth is my brain, evidently. Not only did I buy a Landraider, but I also splurged on a Landraider Excelsior upgrade sprue that I found on ebay so I can use the pannels and doors from that to dress it up and make it look more "Venerable" LameBeard, Antarius and Xenith 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387428-with-11th-edition-so-close-would-it-be-crazy-to-buy-a-landraider/#findComment-6151587 Share on other sites
Karhedron
At the end of 9th edition, I would have been worried about the Land Raider surviving into 10th edition. But with Terminators and Sternguard getting a Primaris glow-up, I think GW are more likely to keep such an iconic tank around. Then it just becomes a question of the current model, the HH model or waiting to see if a new one drops in 11th. Valrak has heard rumours of new tracked Marine vehicles for 11th but they do not specify what for. Personally I would like to see a Primarisised Rhino. Orange Knight
I actually believe that the Landraider WILL get updated in the next edition, and that the Marine releases will very much tick off the last remaining classic units in the codex. I don't think the Predator or Vindicator will survive, but we'll get updated Vanguard marines and some more mounted units. The Drop Pods did get an update, for better or worse, so there are very few units left. It's also entirely possible that in 6 months the £100 I just spent would have been completely wasted lol. Marshal Reinhard
I know I wouldn't. As much as I would throw myself over a new 40k kit for one., 10th edition was all about (modelwise) the glorious return of Indomitus pattern terminators. 11th needs to be about their ride, please make it happen, GW. Domhnall
I hope not! I have just gotten one recently! It would probably make sense for them to release a newer, bigger, bolder Land Raider though. Blissful Brushes
I'm torn here. It has been online only for months, but they are still stocking/making them as I was able to get one from a 3rd party reseller who had to order it in for me. The thing I don't want is them to replace the 'stock' £58 LR with one of the £70 kits with all the bells and whistles as this is a decent chunk of cash for an assault cannon sprue. I imagine an update will look a bit better, with cleaner lines. It might be slightly bigger. It will come with a Primaris gunner and the multi melta will be included in the kit. I won't have too much buyer's remorse if that's the update. Besides, I intend to bling up my new Landraider. I also own an old Forgeworld Multi Melta turret that I'll use as the MM. Orange Knight
Update. I've been building my new Landraider. Wow, the kit is awful: It's warped, doesn't go together well, requires a lot of cutting, trimming, filing and filling. Still, it's taking shape and even after all this time it still looks good! Karhedron
I seem to recall them mentioning that the sprues pushed the limit of what they could do size-wise at the time. Lathe Biosas
I'm really glad I didn't buy one then. I'm really bad at fixing old models. That's crazy, sorry to hear, I built one last year and it was fine - if it was warped I'd definitely send pics to GW, they'd likely send you another. Orange Knight
I wanted to get it done quickly as I don't have regular free time to spend on the hobby. The main bulk of the kit is assembled, but it was difficult to do so and in the end I had to remove one of the inside panels (The engine) because it was too wide for the rest of the body. This caused me a lot of problems as I had assembled the body around it, and had to rip it apart. Lots of filling of gaps around the back as well. I would say this has been the worst kit I have assembled from GW in 10+ years without a doubt. On the plus side, it's now coming together nicely and it will look solid once I've sprayed and painted it. Orange Knight
I've used bits from Horus Heresy vehicle kits, and they add quite a lot to the Landraider. The boxy smoke launchers, the hatch with the combi(storm) bolter, the lower profile Hunter Killer, and of course - the Multi Melta, which thankfully could be applied to the 40k vehicle hatch. Evil Eye
The current Land Raider kit is an absolute sod to work with, yes. Any future LRs I build- Loyalist or Chaos- will be made using the Proteus kit, at least until we get a new 40K-era kit. And you know, there's hope- the Vyper got an update after all! hd3, Karhedron and Orange Knight 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387428-with-11th-edition-so-close-would-it-be-crazy-to-buy-a-landraider/#findComment-6153658 Share on other sites
Karhedron
The things I miss as the old FW Chapter hatches. I used these and they really add a bit of character. Still, several 3rd party vendors seem to have stepped in to fill the gap. Looking good, and top marks for (presumably) putting the sponsons on the front mounting points. Never liked rear-mounted LR sponsons, always seemed like a massive health and safety risk! I recall that disembarkation used to be measured specifically from exit points on the model, and that having the sponsons moved back created a larger bubble out front to take advantage of assaulting out of the Raider. It's a hazy memory at this point. They definitely look better in the forward position to me as well. I built my Crusaders with the Hurricane bolters in the forward position to squeeze a few extra inches of range out of them!
