B&C is normally a pretty snappy website, but yesterday and today the loading of even short threads has been... egregious.  Talking 15+ seconds for entirely text threads.  I'm not expecting instant gratification but it was way faster even just a few days ago.

No other websites/games/videos are showing the same type of slow-down and it's happening to me on multiple networks (Mobile, wifi at work and also home ethernet/wifi) so just wanted to make it known to site owners.

We plan to perform a site reboot as soon as our sacristans have time. That should resolve the issue for now. In the longer run, we're looking at moving to a new server.

Hopefully it should be a bit better now that the server is rebooted.

Unfortunately, one of the backend applications tends to slowly creep up in resource usage over time, like most Java applications. A better server will hopefully fix it in the long run, provided it doesn't take it as license to take all that memory as well.

Unfortunately, the site is still running slow.  I’ve accessed it via both PC and mobile devices with the results the same.  Not getting cloudflare notices again (yet).  We may be looking at that new server sooner rather than later.

It could also be an inefficiency on the network side, rather than one of the machine as well. I'll see about taking a look this weekend.

Although we do need a better server, it wasn't doing this before, which implies something around it may have changed.

Could be some webcrawlers are putting a large network strain on it, as well it could also be the search index, which previously caused feeds to crash. It stopped doing that, but could be just affecting performance instead.

I can give it a deeper look tomorrow, as I still have work today.

I did the hammer of rebooting, which seems to have made it more responsive. But there's times when it doesn't want to be. I'll reindex our search database tomorrow, then maybe do some poking around to see if anything catches my eye.

I did some digging and found that our database is what's taking up our resources sometimes, causing the server to be unresponsive. So I'll have to keep looking as to why it does that.

The site has started taking absolutely ages to load again. Trying to open the homepage is taking between 20-30 seconds, sometimes even longer. Once you’re on the site the individual pages are taking a long time to load too.

I’m using chrome browser on iOS. Everything is up to date and it’s only this site that’s affected, everything else loads fine.

Yep - same - also the photo upload window isn't showing correctly, and I can't even get to a gallery to any of my galleries.

I'm using Firefox 150.0.4 on OSX 26.5.1

Hopefully things straighten out presently.

Edit to add: it cleared up late yesterday, thanks.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Essentially, the problem is a bug in the Invision software, causing one of the automated processes that happen every six hours to slam the database and max out the server's cpu. The changes I made yesterday makes this take less time to clear up, but don't get rid of it.

Unfortunately, there isn't a single magic change to fix it, but we have some options to mitigate it.
