Warsmith is solid, I would have preferred an already established character (my eternal wait for Honsou continues) but really solid overall. I liked how they leaned into the "full frontal assault" side of the IW

 

Contrast with the upgrade sprue which is trash

He's pretty cool. I like the upgrade sprue too, although I would have wished for more weapons, rather than the blank shoulder pads.

What a chunky bastard. This one will be a joy to paint (especially as the IW schemw is rather simple beyond the stripes).

And while the upgrades sadly are a bit light outside of helmets and shoulders it'll easily pull double duty for 30k.

So why the hell didn't they show this off at the preview show ten days ago? They whipped up a teaser for things to come, hinting at the IW, and then they bring it out just like this, before even the first thing from the preview was scheduled for release?

 

I just don't get GW, at all.

 

The upgrades are cool, just surprised it's only one hammer and powerfist.

Warsmith looks excellent. Upgrade sprue looks decent enough, probably overpriced for what it is but the heads are very nice.

As others have said, while cool I would have preferred Honsou, specially since we've had a Ventris model for a while now.

 

Either way, it's a cool character and I specially like that he is wearing Cataphractii armour.

 

As for the upgrade sprue, while light in content specially compared to SM ones, the Iron Warriors are one of the legions that you can straight up use HH stuff without an issue, they don't have any major aesthetic changes between 30K and 40K.

To be fair, we also saw Huron before the full Red Corsairs reveal and considering there are still more IW things to come this just seems like a repetition of that.

I think it's a pity he's a named character. He could easily have passed as a generic model, especially considering he's an OC rather than an established name. Nothing I'll lose much sleep over though.

 

That said I think the model's okay. I like that he pulls design elements from the newer 30k IW stuff, while also having a bastardised/cobbled-together suit of Terminator armour. Feels appropriately 40k without being a model you couldn't carve down some bits and plonk in the Age of Darkness.

 

Upgrades look alright, though that one bare head on the left makes me think of...

They claim he is in Cataphractii armour, but its clearly a suit with mixed Cataphractii and Indomitus parts.

I like that the Undivided Chaos factions are getting the "Codex Chapter" treatment. Upgrade sprue with some special characters. The upgrade sprue helps a lot for the Chaos Space Marine squad.

 

Remains to be seen if Iron Warriors get a special kit like the Corsair raiders. There's whatever robo beast that's still being teased, but everyone has speculated it's a defiler that everyone gets.

Their "named" character looks like generic chaos warsmith, just gunmetal and in Terminator armor. Nothing really says it´s Iron Warrior to me expect the belt buckle.

I think the existence of the current Warpsmith model kind of negates the need for a generic IW character. I prefer generic characters, but Undivided CSM needs more characters

I think so. I think this will make him a smidge taller than the 30k Warsmith in Cataphractii armour.

IMO IW have always been more about paint scheme than models. Regardless, the new Warsmith is clearly related. The pteruges are identical. The knee grilles match new guy’s bottom shin grills, etc.

The gimmick of Iron Warriors is hazard stripes and being overall plain though. He has no bling and I appreciate that.

No more than Iron Hands "losing their identity" any time there's a Tech Marine model.

 

Even the classic Mr. Iron Warrior mini looks like an edgy tech Marine.

The Warsmith is nice, but the upgrade sprue is a lot less than it could be. A few more bionic arms would have been nice, and even a bionic leg or 2 - if memory serves correctly, several of the CSM bodies have one leg that are separate pieces, so designing new bionic ones in CAD to swap out should have been a fairly simple job?

That Warsmith looks… off. The proportions are strange, the legs look way too squat and the tentacles are clunky, particularly the attachment points. Why can’t GW get their proportions right with the new style?

I get wanting characters that are established, but it's boring in that it doesn't expand the universe. If you want to make a model be Honsou, nobody is stopping you. Whack off the new models arms, make a plain metallic one holding a Combi-Bolter and the other carrying an axe.
