I definitely would have hoped for more bionics in the iron warriors upgrade sprue, and I wonder how much the new model design ethos (less ability to mix bits between mini without more work) contributes to the difficulty in making those bionics actually work as an upgrade.

THOUGH. If we get a suitable iron hands upgrade pack this year, one which could be combined with either the legionnaire or loyalist (or likely the corsairs) kits, then that could cover the gap nicely.

Thankfully other options exist for atleast, some bionics

I'm not sure what's happened to that image,  but trying to follow the link gets you blocked from the Host site for suspicious URLs.

Weird. Tortuga Bay is legit and the main reason I scrapped my custom Marine army I was working on so I could get in more truescale Mk3.

^This. IW exist on a spectrum much broader than any other Traitor Legion. Some IW warbands are indistinguishable from a stereotypical Heretic Astartes warband. Some embrace a cult to the point they’re indistinguishable from a C:WE or C:EC or have a lot of those units (eg Kroeger’s warband or IW sonic artillery themed warband). Then you’ve got the ones who subjugate demons into tech but otherwise act and relatively look like the IVth Legion back in the Scouring.

Good point, but I would argue that really, all the legions except perhaps the god-aligned ones exist on a much broader spectrum than their "mainstream" image. I mean, there are thousands upon thousands of legionaires out there and they've had plenty of time to go down different paths, so pretty much every variation on every legion is both conceivable and reasonable. As long as it's cool, of course.

To add to that, the narrow view of most legions is a bit baffling. Even in probably the most popular set of books on a traitor legion in 40k, AD-B's Night Lords trilogy, they are clearly shown to be wildly varied even within the same warband and many of them are very obviously chaos tainted, yet what most people seem to take away from it is "Night Lords are a legion of non-chaotic, almost atheist, traitor marines who are all brooding, sadistic killers". It's the same in game terms, where many tend to think that an army must be stereotypical to be fluff-adherent (e.g. Night Lords = Raptors, Word Bearers = Possessed etc.), but surely the Chaos legions are much more varied and, well chaotic, than that.

How so?

The mechadendrites, The bolter fist, the servo arm, the thunder hammer, and the flamer all together on the same model. Just a bit too much. The Servo arm, bolter fist, and hammer would have been enough. Maybe the dendrites to, but the flamer definitely took it over the top for me.

I like both the Warsmith and the new upgrade kit, though I agree that the Warsmith is a bit too festoned with equipmen and there's an unnecessary amount of bare heads in the upgrade set that will eventually just gather dust in my bitzbox.

Can't understand why there are blank shoulder pads as well, aren't there enough of those alreazy in the Chaos Legionnaire box?

Can you hear the clickity clackity of metal claws, getting closer and closer and closer?

We’re also following on from last Monday’s thunderous reveal with a new update for a classic kit revealed tomorrow – can you guess what it is?

generally i think the upgrade kit is good, i like the helms but wish there was a bit more variation among them. one or two with horns would have been good. also the space used on the blank pauldrons could have been spent on more arms.
