Hello fraters and sororitas,

I'm currently looking to get some test games for my alternative LI rules set in (WIP title: Travel Heresy - games set in army scale between LI and standard Heresy, just with LI miniatures, so you can travel easily, and based on a mix of OPR, Epic Armageddon and LI to get a faster, more fluent game, fitting to me and my friends' needs in faster, more fun games with less rules clutter^^). I'd like to use a mat for the basic table setup, because even if I like GWs gaming boards a lot, the LI tiles are waaaay overpriced. I'm just not gonna pay roughly 400 Euros just for a 4'x4'. Now I was wondering if any of you have come across mats similar to the look of the LI tiles? Ideally it would be more beige-y coloured instead of the standard grey you can see everywhere - more like sandstone and such, to give that board a different look and feel to my 40k cityfight board.

Also I was wondering, if the Necromunda tiles might work for LI - maybe for some spaceport setting or the inside of a hangar or such? I've got some Necromunda tiles in storage and could pull those out, but I'm unsure because of scale inconsistencies and overall mismatch in look. So, any advice or recommendations? What are you guys using?

I'd suggest looking at the Dropzone commander Cityscape or ruinscape sets, it might not be exactly what you are looking for colour wise, but it's a dirt cheap option for a 6 by 4 card table that comes with card buildings too for portability.

Thanks, Cleon. That's actually not what I'm looking for. I like building and painting terrain. I've done a full imperial sector board with buildings painted to quite a nice level, with posters, banners and whatnot. So I don't mind effort. I certainly don't wanna do it as cheap as possible. Just not crazy expensive like the Legions Imperialis boards and I don't have time to build the board itself from scratch.

Hence why I was looking for mats that look like that high-gothic style or sorta neutral city surface to build an 8mm imperial city ruin on (already got two boxes of buildings, one of the spires, got some 3d-printed ruins, got the entire manufactorum kit, will be getting one of the ruins kits and add accordingly if necessary). And it only needs to be 4'x4'. The ruinscape set does look nice though, but it's not warhammer-y enough. :D
