zulu.tango
The kill team scene has gotten fairly big at my FLGS and I'm looking to organize a competitive league for us and to help expand the local scene beyond my preferred store. I'm looking for any advice on what formats have worked well for others, as well as any tips on running the league. For the "test run" I'm planning on essentially running a 5 round tournament through BCP, allowing for 2 weeks to complete games. I would set crit op for each round, and randomize board assignments for each match (we have plenty of Volkus and TW in our local community, but in the event the pairing cannot procure the assigned terrain layout, alternative layouts will be provided). I'm planning on allowing TTS games in the event of IRL scheduling issues, but I don't anticipate too many issues for this first round as most if not all of the participants would be members of my FLGS community who meet weekly. If all games are completed ahead of the 2 week assigned window the round would close and new pairings would be assigned, and the timer would reset. As it would be formatted as tournament there would be no faction swapping, but to account for the (potentially) 10 week duration any balance dataslates released while the league is active would be incorporated. Looking forward I think I would like to have the league become a quarterly or bi-annual seasonal league culminating in a "championship" tournament with seeding based on placement during the league. Future leagues would have round-robin assignments rather than a tournament format, in order to allow players to be more likely to play against different/new opponents later into the league. I have relatively little information on non-tournament style leagues and here is where I'd need the most filling in the gaps. Anyone here have experience with competitive leagues, Kill Team or otherwise? Any information is appreciated!
