Helias_Tancred
Hey all. I have a box of scouts ordered that I'm going to use for my Dark Angel collection. I haven't run scouts in forever. So I'm assuming the best way to build them is as two squads of 5 each? How would you build them? Does it make a big difference, for example, if the sergeant is given a chainsword and bolt pistol, or better to just put another boltgun or shotgun on him? Tell me how to do this! lol. Thanks. Tacitus
WYSIWYG is not currently a thing, so I'd build them as a squad of 10. I don't know what I'd do with the sergeant beyond putting him on the display shelf with the rest of them. I'm not really a fan of the Jack of All Trades, Competent At None version we have now. Chaplain Augustus
I like to either play them as shooty or stabby! Since the combat knife has an ap value now I've been delighted to use them as close combat shock troops in big or small squads where they can stall an aggressive midfield monster by both forward deployment and speed bumping. Sometimes they find a squishy target and can clear some real-estate. I am currently experimenting with shooty version where 2 min squads supplement eliminators with their snipers and add extra anti armour with the rockets. If you are playing competitive I think they really are strong for their deployment/ redeployment shenanigans and so load-outs are prob less important. Lathe Biosas
I'm building mine to be all stabby 5 man squad, with a Sniper Rifle to aim for important enemies. I find it's always best to have at least one long range weapon. Even if you are parked in a corner, it's always good to be able to tag someone, even if it is only for a damage or 2. Helias_Tancred
I took one and kit-bashed more of a veteran scout sergeant (full astartes) for them. Honoring Sergeant Naaman sort of thing. Tacitus
You may even be able to make a datasheet for him for a few months of the Maelstrom summer campaign. There are indeed rules that can be used to get the most of the model.
