kabaakaba
So we have relatively big number of the artillery/indirect fire units in codex. Starting from mortars to Basilisks and Deathstrike. And it's not like we can often see them in tournaments. Do you use them? How often and which detachment? What you use to order them? DemonGSides
I bring some arty to most of my games because I'm a sucker and I like the idea of red legs. It's almost always bad. Either rough to hit with or rough to wound with, most of our arty is over priced and anemic. I do like the newer krieg set that came out. And Basilisks do still have some play with their movement reducing ability. But in general, indirect has been nerfed very hard this edition. kabaakaba 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387567-gods-of-war-artillery/#findComment-6156454 Share on other sites
Focslain
So personally I've been using the FOB with bomblasts in the regular guard list. That or the kreig artillary team. I've always tried to put some indirect in my guard army in prior editions. For detachments I've swapped from Combined arms to grizzled veterans. Always use the Take Aim order on the artillary, no other order will do. And then there is the mad man in my local gaming group that does a Recon Force of catachans supported by three deathstrikes in 2K. Tallarn Commander
I too often bring an artillery team with siege cannon or three. They are bad but fun. Sometimes they can deliver severe damage but usually they do very little. I agree with Focslain that they really need Take Aim to work even decently. But for the low low price of 285 points they keep the enemy out of my backfield and they look pretty. kabaakaba, DemonGSides and Focslain 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387567-gods-of-war-artillery/#findComment-6156514 Share on other sites
Galron
Even the lowly mortar teams are still fairly useful. I almost always have at least one squad of them in every list where it somewhat can fit the theme of the list. Their entire purpose is to hit the little five man teams holding backfield objectives. Bassies if I bring them are too busy slowing down key targets I dont want to hit me. In most of my lists I have a unit of mortars for the chip damage on hiding or soft units, its 65 points and I can sit them on a home field objective most of the time. Dont care about orders. Usually, unless its a mech infantry or heavy armor themed list I will bring at least two bombast guns and a castellan to baby sit them. Same job as the mortar teams to kill action monkeys and stuff guarding the enemy home and they do the job well enough plus you can use them to screen out your won home objective pretty well as neat little firebase.
