Karhedron
The Vyper has received a new datasheet to match the new model. The special rule remains the same but the Twin Shuricats have now been replaced by a Shuricannon as default which can be switched out for a missile launcher. The price has increased by 10 points to 75 points each. This makes them interesting as you can now take combos such as BL+ML for dedicated tank-busting. Equally interesting is the new Starfang which is also 75 points and is clearly kitted out as an MEQ killer with 4-6 S6 SP-3 2D shots. The Starfang also has an interesting ability to give an Infantry unit within 36" and LOS the STEALTH ability in the enemy shooting phase. I can definitely see the appeal of both units. Inquisitor_Lensoven
Have yall seen their Strat withdraw and reinforce? you get to pull out of melee into reserves and get any destroyed models back. 1CP. so if they don’t wipe the squad, it can come back full power next turn. 4 hours ago, Karhedron said: The Vyper has received a new datasheet to match the new model. We can give a unit an effective -2 to to be hit by comboing those abilities right? Unfortunately not. As per the core rules updates, to-Hit modifiers are capped at -1. Not quite, you can only put a unit into Reserves if it is not in Engagement range. However this is incredibly powerful when paired with Skyreavers who can duck out of combat at the end of the Fight Phase. And then Deep Strike back into action from Reserves at the start of your following turn. This seems incredibly strong and I would not be entirely surprised to see it get an errata. But for the moment, fill yer boots! I can almost guarantee the Strat goes to 2 CP Karhedron 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387570-vyper-and-starfang-updates/#findComment-6156538 Share on other sites
Dr. Clock
1 hour ago, Karhedron said: see it get an errata I dunno... seeing as it's just one unit per round, costs CP, and depends on a fragile unit surviving in the first place, I hope they let it lie. Resurrects costing 2CP and being once per game is one thing when they can bring back entire 20man Cadians, but they already knew about that limitation when they wrote this. A 'return dead models to the unit' is just not nearly as good as a proper 'resurrect' option, and the most you're getting back is 9 t3 4+ bodies. If the threat is there of the unit replenshing, it's just going to force enemies to be sure to kill things dead, and into eldar pirates that's not a big lift. Raid and Run is unexceptional on its own, and without any character support Skyreavers are a harassment unit at best. I think the best targets of Withdraw and Reinforce will be the actual hitters: the Voidscarred that you're putting Yriel and Kharseth with, and have stacked some enhancements on. Yriel's Example + Withdraw and Reinforce will definitely dominate my strat budget with this army, but if they jack the cost of either of them, that picture gets way worse because there's no way to make strats cheaper for anhrathe (in the Eldritch detachment). Cheers, The Good Doctor.
