Welcome to part two of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week series!

Following the release of the 10th edition Codex Supplement, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will discuss the units from the units found within Codex Supplement: Blood Angels, parts two to four will discuss Codex: Space Marines, part five will be Imperial Armour, and part six will be Legends.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Librarian?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around?
  • Are you taking multiple units?
  • Which Detachment are you using?
  • What deployment options are you using?
  • Any Enhancements?
  • Running solo or attached to a unit?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

Please note that the following Datasheets: Librarian in Phobos Armour, Librarian in Terminator Armour, Librarian on Bike, Librarian with Jump Pack, will be discussed in their relevant entries to this series.

Should you want your model on display here (or on another thread), then submit a photo here please.

(Once I work out how best to float it!)

As an aside, the thread setup may change over the coming weeks until I'm happy with them. This includes the photos.

I've been adding this unit to Sternguard in a drop pod. With the transport capacity 12, these kind of buff characters help a lot. A 4+ invul to the sternguard makes them much more sticky and tough.

The librarian is best used in big units for that 4+ invul. If he saves 3 marines, he basically makes his points back, and that's easy enough to do with all the D2 and D3 floating around.

I like the Librarian in a 10 man squad of Intercessors in Angelic Inheritors. 40 shots rerolling 1s to Hit and Wound will do some work. The Smite synergises well with the bolt rifles, the 4++ provides some durability and the Libby can contribute some Force Weapon attacks in melee.

I like Librarian with a full Infernus Squad in Angelic Inheritors. Push them forward and make them something that has to be dealt with. 10d6 hits and reroll 1 to wound can do some damage. Do it with shooting, then overwatch, and then fallback and shoot... it's a lot. For Bastion, I ran Librarian with Blades of Valor in Assault Terminators. When I got them into combat, they hit hard. The problem was they drew a lot more fire when out in the open compared to the Infernus Squad.
