(Moderators, I didn't think this was a "PCA question" since it's more of a statement but please feel free to move as you see fit)

I didn't see this anywhere on the forums so thought I'd make folks aware.

So it is gone-gone?

I had been to the local GW store last week and was told there that they do not sell green stuff anymore....

so I ordered the Army Painter stuff from Amazon.

But gone totally? There must be a similar product for all the arts-and-crafts people who also use it....

@Valkia the Bloody It will disappear since the manufacturer has stopped production. Once supply is gone, the original Kneadatite formula will not be available unless PPG/PSI sell it off to another manufacturer. Sylmasta/SylCreate intend to create a replacement. Who knows how long it will take for them or others to start production, or if the quality will be the same. (See https://sylcreate.com/green-stuff-modelling-putty-update-supply-issues-and-future-plans/ for details on their plans.)

I’m on the fence about picking up more. The alternatives available today aren’t as useful to me but I also don’t use a large volume of it.

Anyone looking to stockpile some for the future should look for the Kneadatite branded options. It’s the same formula. You can (could?) get a large quantity of Kneadatite for a fraction of the cost compared to the green stuff branded options - Kneadatite is sold in 3.5 ounce/36” inch strips.

Grey stuff is quite good as a substitute but I prefer Kneadatite green stuff as it is so versatile and he is right about other brands.

Thing is speaking as a sculptor of some renown back in the day this has always been on the cards given the rise of 3d modelling and printing.

I think the issue is that it's a niche product beyond repairs and working with things like screw threads.

Still a sad day to see it gone after all these years.

I think it has and hasn't. Some companies have shifted over to digital design (and we're talking actual companies producing a product, not less-than-garage-setups that primarily sell STL files) however they aren't the majority; most still rely on traditional sculpting methods.

Rough day for the industry however.

For anyone thinking about stockpiling greenstuff, it doesn't have a very long shelf life.  But can last longer if you keep it in the freezer.

I'm not a big user and everytime I need some it's set rock hard.

For what it's worth, I have found Tamiya epoxy putty comes in various types and is very pleasant to work with. Smooth is closest to Green Stuff, though personally I prefer Quick as it sets fast (but not too fast) and is very conducive to sanding and carving.

Regardless, very sad day and I hope either the formula is sold or the apparent replacement is up to scratch.

I buy mine from greenstuff world and one meter of gs last for me about 5-6 years depends on the projects.

With a 3d printer I started to use even more since is very useful for "errors" with big models.

But if you storage gs in a airsealed bag it can last quite a bit.

I've only ever had this issue with the strips. The tube one lasts me literally years without freezing.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have ordered a pack of the Tamiya putty and will put it to the test.

I had a pack of this for more than 10 years. It has lasted me that long and it kept well for all this time.

But now I have nearly used it up and was looking for a replacement.

My Night Lords need their skin trophies, after all.

Somehow, I only found this stuff in the separate tubes in a couple of stores over here, it is not on Amazon or Ebay, and it is either on back-order or would cost 35 Euro. More than the leftover green stuff stripes or the Tamiya putty (which is 6 Euro).

I have now ordered a strip of Army Painter green stuff (the last of it's kind) and a pack of the Tamiya putty and will put them to the test.

I agree on the shelf-life aspect. Greenstuff is good for many applications, but, for those who have not yet used it, I find Milliput more useful for filling cracks or creating a base I can sculpt Greenstuff over. It it also comes in various 'grains,' which is useful.
