I like all of these. Most tempted by the Red Corsairs and Night Lords because I somehow still don't have a rhino, though the Red Corsairs one would have been an instant purchase if it had had 10 Raiders.

Do you think it's simply a coincidence that the skull on the night lords box is from an Imperial Fist or is GW sending a message to Valrak for being correct once again with his rumours?

Probably wanted a splash of yellow in there to complete the Primary Colour triad.

But I choose to believe you're correct because it's funnier.

I know about all the turf war and accounting rumors that preclude the possibility, but if they just switched those ancient rhinos with the Deimos pattern ones from HH, these boxes would be nearly perfect.

Still, they are excellent, save for the inclusion of these dreadfully old vehicles. (The Eldar one still looks great though.)

Oof...

I've got the Kroot Hunting Pack from the launch and this seems like a brilliant addition as I don't yet have the Farstalkers nor a Lone Spear.

I am so happy to see a Kroot combat Patrol, especially as I wanted more Farstalkers and definitely could get talked into everything else in the box. But the coating of Kroot, and most horde armies, is bonkers. Still, I'm happy to see continued attention

So in context of the game, this CP is actually the old kroot CP with 10 less kroot and 3 less rampagers. So we might have the first CP replacement or these will have so bonker rules.

There hasn't been a kroot combat patrol box before, just made up rules for one in a white dwarf

Beastmen going to be the new Tzaangors? Renegade fans better get ready to own a lot of extra sprues.

On the flip side, for the dozens of 40k beastmen fans out there, the secondhand market is about to blow up!

Beastmen have been apart of 40k lore forever, I don't see a problem. If it wasn't for the Rhino I'd gladly pick up that Red Corsairs box.

Those Eldar corsairs were pretty much what I was going to expand the battlegroup box from, so that's very handy! I would be tempted by the Red Corsairs but I don't really want the beastmen, if it was traitor guard I'd probably grab one even with the rhino.

I think the issue may be that a lot of CSM collectors really don't want anything to do with Damned/Mortal/etc units. As a result, whether truthfully or it just being a perception thing, they find their way into bundle-boxes pretty often and that further compounds peoples issues with their existence.

Personally I love them, but there is a hatedom that exists for anything not wearing power armour.

I think a lot of it is simply there is a big lost and damned shaped hole and mortals are fairly agnostic across chaos armies, so shoving them all into chaos space marines is... a choice.

If James, in his infinite wisdom, decided to make me CEO I'd order a bespoke return of a Lost and Damned army immediately - particularly if Daemons are getting squatted/sent to Legion purgatory.

I do have to wonder if the existence of Genestealer Cults (and them being arguably the least popular 'actual' army in 40k) has something to do with why the Damned have been crammed into the CSM codex.

That kinda feels like a big portion of the 40k fanbase in general. It's a shame so many Chaos players feel that way, as mortals are one of the big unique factors that separate the Legions and Warbands from the loyalists chapters. The fact that Chaos warlords can bring millions of mortal servants to a fight is more like the Legions of Heresy then anything the loyalists can do. I've accepted we likely won't get LatD, but just a Brood Brothers style detachment would go a long way.

Alas, I guess we shouldn't get too distracted from the topic at hand. Night Lords having a Jump Lord with no jump troops is certainly a choice. But that Raptor kit is stuck in Kill Team jail for now

Most Chaos Space Marines players tend to want an army of…Chaos Space Marines. Not demons, not mortals, not beastmen. This was understood as far back as the 2nd edition Chaos codex, in a designer’s note to this exact effect. They specifically wrote the book to allow for the option of demons and cultists, but to focus on providing a complete and workable force of pure Chaos Space Marines.

Personally I find cultists boring, if I wanted to play human chaff, I’d have picked Guard. That said, I do like beastmen as they are at least unique to Chaos. I still think that Jakhals should have been beastmen rather than Mad Max warboys.

It is OK to agree that no one was looking at these awesome new renegade sculpts and thinking "I can't wait to buy these plus a box of beastmen!"

Yeah, it ends up as a way to help James clear out his extra unsold sprues. No doubt the box will sell well because of the new sculpts, so anybody who actually does want those beastmen should be able to pick them up extra cheap now from box splitters on eBay.

Everyone wins! (Sort of. Not the guys who can't get someone else to buy their extra beastmen.)

They can also just keep releasing LatD units as part of CSM until the amount seems satisfactory enough and then split them off as their own thing. That ensures the army is big enough to justify some rules support, while also "encouraging" existing players to get another army

Seeing as how I saw that box and my only complaint was the dumpy old Rhinox, no I don't agree.

Do you have any factual data supporting that Felgor were an unpopular kit, or are you just making it up? They were a very powerful Kill Team for a while, and likely sold pretty well off that fact.

My understanding is that GW isn't cutting open old boxes to throw into these combo boxes, so the idea of them moving old stock in combo boxes also seems to be nonsense

I was talking about people seeing the minis revealed, not people looking at this box. Should have been more clear.

With that clarification, yes I am confident that people's first thought after seeing those renegades was NOT how excited they would be to buy them alongside beastmen.

You are about to be swimming in secondhand beastmen. Now should be a time to celebrate.

Accidentally a word

I appreciate that Combat Patrols have gone back to the 9th edition format of having One Big Thing in them, even if its just a Rhino, but how are you meant to play the actual game of Combat Patrol if all you have are 2 units and a transport. Insane.

Eh, a Rhino older then the younger generation of players is a stretch for One Big Thing. At least the Wave Serpent still looks good. I also just hate the marine Rhino in 40k, so I might be a tad unfair
