And all of a sudden, my kitbashed BA Bladeguard plan moves way up the Blood Angels To Do list. I spent months in 24/25 picking up the old assault terminators sergeant shields to make a full squad of six with them. Hopefully this change carries over to 11th.

It's nice to see a wee drop for Astorath. I haven't finished painting mine yet so it's a nice incentive to get him done and on the table.

Do we think sang priest is best option for BGV now over judiciar. I can see the argument for 5+ FNP, but strikes first is so good.

A couple of Detachments have Enhancements for a one-off Fights First so we can have the best of both worlds here I think.

  • LAG has Speed of the Primarch
  • RCO has Master of the Red Thirst

Extra AP and a 5+++ on BGVs looks very tasty and you can have the once per game FF in your back pocket for when you really need it. The downside is that the Judiciar is a much better fighter than the SangPriest so I don't think it is clear cut but both look appealing.

I think it's more a different tools for different jobs kind of deal. For me a Priest will support how I use Bladeguard in my other armies (mid-field objective clearers and problem solvers) by making them hit harder and hopefully last a little longer. I'm my own collection the Sanguinor fills my fight first needs, but there will be situations where a full bladeguard squad doing the same thing will be more benficial.

I kitbashed my own BGV a couple years ago. It was a very rewarding project!

that said, I'm tempted to dust off my LRC and make a party bus with BGV+SPriest, erads, Mephy, and maybe either a gravis captain or biologis to be cheeky!

Definitely not competitive, but it should be a blast!

I have just remembered one other big advantage the Priest has over the Judiciar is you can add a Priest to the squad and still a Captain or Lieutenant. That opens up a lot of combos and stacked Enhancements. Even the combo of Lethal Hits and and extra -1AP is pretty good.

If you're in LAG the free fall-back-and-charge from the Lt is also amazing. Not to mention his own significant melee output!

I'm a huge fan of the Lt package. Now if only we could get one with a jump pack!

It looks like the new boxed set might do just that! I'm assuming it's a jump pack command squad the box.

According to current rumours, it is a squad of Vanguard Veterans led by a Chaplain. I really like the great swords in the animation so I am looking forward to seeing the actual models.

Same.

I just had an exciting thought: if those are VVets in the teaser, I would imagine there's a good chance that they'd go the BGV/SG/ICC route and make them squads of 3/6. If that's the case, then maybe one of them could be a Lt...

I could definitely be wrong, but one can dream!

i think they'll be 5 man squads tbh, like sternguard. Could be wrong, as you say, but my gut says something like:

5 man squad - default weapons will be similar stats to sanguinary guard swords and they'll have plasma pistols (seems that way from the trailer).

But they'll be 2 wounds and 3+ save with no invulnerable.

Means you have sternguard as shooty vets, bladeguard as tanky vets and then vanguard as glass canon melee vets

The trailer showed 5; 4 of them still alive and following the chaplain as he attacks and the 5th dead one at their feet.

Between :40-:42

A little later right after Chappie puts his helmet on

I know trailers mean nothing, truly, but I think it's indicative of a 5 man vet squad.

5 man VetVans feels right.

I know they've got Swords in the trailer, but the "iconic" VanVets are TH&SS and we did also get a JP Capt with exactly that loadout, so I expect these guys will still have that option but the Thunderclaws option is probably what's been swapped for Swords.

As for Plasma Pistols, JPAIs can have 2 per unit but it looks like they all have them here, right? Maybe the TH&SS have regular Bolt Pistols and the Swords build have Plasma Pistols as the trade off for the lack of Shields?

The problem with flying TH/SS is that it is usually just the best option. GW have been spending time trying to make different loadouts equally competitive so I don't see that happening.

Look what happened to Wulfen, they had to give them baby-hammers so they weren't too overpowered and they still needed a separate Datasheet from Claw Wulfen because  the 4++ was too good.
