Hello everybody. I'm putting together an army and was hoping to get some critiques. I want to run the Biosanctic Broodsurge and currently have a list:

--Characters--

Abominant - 85 pts

Abominant - 85 pts

Patriarch - 75 pts

Reductus Saboteur - 65 pts

--Battleline--

10 Neophyte Hybrids - 65 pts

--Infantry--

5 Aberrants -135 pts

5 Aberrants - 135 pts

5 Purestrain Genestealers - 75 pts

--Vehicles--

Ridgerunner w/missile launcher - 95 pts

Ridgerunner w/missile launcher - 95 pts

--Dedicated Transport--

Goliath Truck - 85 pts

Total: 995 pts

Other models I currently have: Magus, Primus.

I was wondering if I should make some changes. It feels odd to only take 1 unit of neophytes, but I am basing this off of suggestions I've seen. I haven't played 10e yet, so I'm unsure of how this list looks.

Thank you. It doesn't look like you can split the Neophytes into 5 man squads, 65 pts for 10 and 145 for 20. Would it be that much better to invest in Acolytes? I feel like dropping the Patriarch would reduce the benefits of the army being Biosanctic Broodsurge.

I could save 20 pts by grouping the ridgerunners together in a unit. Would that be a bad idea?

I'd echo Ulfast and suggest arming the ridgerunners with mortars - it gives them much more flexibility when selecting Crossfire targets, and they're useful into light infantry too, which aberrants aren't. I like them with spotters so they still hit on 4s when firing indirect, but other people like the remove cover option too.

Grouping the ridgerunners saves a few points, but you sacrifice utility - they can't split up, and can only crossfire one target.

An abominant is a pricy option to lead five aberrants. Give some thought to the biophagus - significantly cheaper, brings lethal hits, and has the right keywords for biosanctic. Switching both abominants for biophagi saves you 50 points, which is most of an acolyte unit.

You're right that neophytes only come in 10s or 20s. They're a good home objective unit - they're sticky, so you control the objective even if they get shot off it. The alternative is mining weapon acolytes, who generate extra CP - biosanctic has some good stratagems, so the CP will be useful.

My suggestion would be to swap the abominants for biophagi and drop one ridgerunner. Use the points to get some more stealers (either another unit of five, or make the patriarchs unit ten-strong), and the infiltrate enhancement. And if points allow, upgrade the truck to a rockgrinder.

Stick one lot of aberants in the truck/grinder, infiltrate the other lot, the genestealers and the reductus, with the neophytes and ridgerunner holding down the backfield. That puts two nasty combat units right up in your opponent's grill, with a second wave safe in the truck. It's not clever, but it brings early pressure, and bear in mind that you can recycle the first unit that dies to join the second (or third) wave...
