I'm wondering if the final bit of prose at the bottom is a bit of a sneaky inform that we're going to get a Beakie helmet with the Intercessor squad.

Beaky boy is Orkish for space marine; there could be a mk6 style helmet but I would not base any hope off this prose.

I'd be all up for them splitting them out and just having boys/other units led by a Nob rather than a Boss Nob, then having the latter be able to attach to a load of units - but maybe its just that ork nobz are going to 40mm bases, so so is this guy even though he's just a unit leader.

I initially thought this was a Big Boss character like 2nd edition, but it seems like it's just the Nob that comes with a Boyz kit which already is called a Boss Nob in 10th. There is rumoured to be a Big Boss and a War Boss also though. GW has been going back to old editions and bringing back units for a while now.

So, that helmet is officially what Mark VII's have always looked like.

sternguard has the older style one. So no, he just has a mkX helmet with mkVII faceplate on his boss pole.

Clearly the idea is that all the parts can be intermixed, right down to subassemblies! Which is narratively cool IMO

Not even a rumor at this point, we already have seen the War Boss;

I don't have a real Xenos force yet (Just the Tyranids from Leviathan), and these new Orks are PRETTY cool.  But I need a new army like another hole in my head and I have a infantry heavy army already.  Guess I could go more towards the speed freaks side of things...

But since this is the multipart kit, this is probably the post-launch-box Warboss kit, while the one in the box will probably be a unique monopose sculpt. Most likely the chain-choppa wielder from the trailer.

I really dig the faded browns/rust checker pattern on the chainsword.

I do, too.  Was thinking of how I'd try and pull that off.  Probably an off-white with some brown checkers, then give it a smear of some ratling grime/garaghak's sewer/brownish-red contrast?

The base tone looks almost coppery? Maybe water it down some for less opacity? Then checker on top and the grime/sewer for sure. Get a good

chipping in there too…

Think this might even be a pre-launch kit for Armageddon

I hope we get big bosses to dilute the need of Warbosses.

This actually genuinely annoys me. I feel like the article is written by someone at GW who's not down with the nitty and gritty in armor detail differences. A lot of fraters here aren't even and often conflate the face plate with the whole helmet. And now we have a GW source doing the same. The uphill is getting steeper

100%. I'm really excited by how the team is expanding the "'Eavy Metal" style. This choppa and the armor of the bosses in the Darkwater box have a neat, almost watercolor effect. It's like they're using "tea staining" as a stylistic choice it it looks amazing. This model design is fine, but both the color scheme and the execution are 10/10.

I find it a bit amusing that the Boss Nob has a more sensible and realistic machinegun than the Stub Gunner from the new Cadian kill team. I like the detail of the ammo belt not being disintegrating.

That poor Cadian is getting a forearm full of hot brass with every shot.

Looks great! Odd that is on what appears to be a 40mm base though.

The Breaka Boyz/Tankbustas Boss Nob is on a 40mm base while the rest of the unit is on 32s. I wouldn't be surprised if that is new standard for Nobs.

I think it might be a Mk. VIII helmet. They've sometimes been depicted with those 'sloping' ear pieces that people are saying makes it a Mk. X helmet rather than a true Mk. VII…

It's literally a Stinger from WW2.  It's hard to argue it's unrealistic when it's something that was actually used.  The variant of M1919 they were built off of were convertible for left or right hand feed (so while it's probably not advisable to have that right hand feed, it's realistic).
