This isn’t the most important or interesting question I’m sure but…whilst painting my team of Reivers my Sgt remains unhelmeted but as I painted the others I noticed some have one “plug” in the back and some (maybe one) have studs at the eyeline.  Now these figures are beautifully made and the attention to detail is incredible so it’s not cost saving or laziness.  Is it just Flava or (if I really cared) is there something in lore about bigger guns needing targetting data which comes via a data link and studs are for Sgts…

I know the best answer is always they’re your plastic army men, you do you…but it’s important to get these things right…right?

The studs don’t seem to represent rank.  The box art shows a black marine with the studded helmet but not the Sgts body which has a data pad thing on his arm.

If you mean the little studs above the eyebrow on an unhelemeted Marine, they denote length of service. Silver or gold, with silver denoting 25 years and gold representing 50 IIRC.

Ah, hadn’t even wondered what they had attached to their skulls!  I guess it’s the same on the helmets?

See the image below.  The black figure has them the blue doesn’t.  They aren’t coloured though.image.thumb.jpeg.4a3834df5d80506ec9b4ed74cbee74d1.jpeg

Those are just rivets. Some helmets have them, some don't.
