Inquisitor_Lensoven
The last reveal show we managed to make out like bandits tbh. 2 1/2 new vehicles and a squad of infantry and 2 infantry characters is pretty good. but what does that mean for the guard and the future? Is it a sign we’ll be in the first year of 11th? 2nd? Or 3rd? I’ve been thinking about it and I think I have arguments for 1st or 2nd year. arguments for yr 1- get a new codex out with the new units in it quickly, release only one or two new units kind of like a split release. argument for yr 2- we literally just got quite a bit, GW says “that will have to tide them over for a while” and they give some love to armies that normally don’t get much attention.(GK, DE, etc) with some big releases. i just don’t see us getting a new codex in the closing year of 11th. let me know what yall think. Karhedron
8 hours ago, Emperor Ming said: Orks, Marines, then tau and custards from rumours. 11th edition is dropping in June. GW usually let people go wild with it over the summer and then start dropping codices in September. Assuming their usual rate of about 1 per month, that will probably take us until the end of the year. So Guard will probably be some time in 2027. Emperor Ming
Like atm, unless we see some additional rules, it looks like a melee edition and really bad for shooting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387849-11th-ed-codex-when/#findComment-6168489 Share on other sites
Casual Heresy
I would expect a new guard codex to be late in the edition this cycle, probably around second half of year two. As you've already pointed out, guard got a lot of new toys recently. Big question for me is: Will the guard codex be a book and one model (if so come on Death Rider Commissar!) release this time or something more substantial? If the new Steel Legion are a normal release and not Kill Team then I would bet on later in the edition. I don't think there's any real safe expectation; 9th we were the last codex, 10th we were more middle of the pack. There's no real rhyme or reason beyond whatever voodoo GW casts to determine the order. I don't think the Steel Legion set will be tied to our codex at all. I'm almost convinced we'll be an early codex as they're going to want to get those new rules from our new toys into a book they can sell. But really we don't know. Embrace it! Whatever happens as long as there some good models involved we'll all be happy. Doghouse
I'm wondering about the fate of the Leman Russ and the Chimera, maybe not this edition but the next. It feels like possibly they could be replaced by the Dorn and the half track transport with the Russ being relegated to Heresy. The Leman Russ is as iconic to Guard as the Land Raider is to Space Marines. While the Russ kit is showing its age next to the Dorn, I hope that is a reason to retool the model, not retire the unit. I could see the centaur possibly replacing the chimera, but it seems extremely unlikely for a few reasons. 1. the number of chimera chassis vehicles we already have 2. they fill two very different niches. The only overlap is transport capacity. Chimera has 5x the firepower or more than the centaur.
