The Pounder
I’m planning on adding a unit of Outriders with Plasmaguns to my Dark Angels. I’ll be using Ravenwing Black Knigts from the 40K range. The question I need answered is how do I go about it? What shall I arm the Sergeant with? Am I right that I can’t give them a banner? Or an Apothecary? It’s mainly for a painting project so it doesn’t have to be top level competitive but I’d like it to be lore accurate and useable. Please help, it would be greatly appreciated. Shard of Magnus
No option for banner or apothecary in 3.0 aside from adding command characters. You could use two as a mounted herald and mounted primus medicae. Does require using multiple boxes to have enough outriders unfortunately. For the sergeant I would go with Corvus hammer (I love the look) and use it as either a power maul or thunder hammer in game. SlickSamos
I put the Black Knights' Plasma Guns on regular old bikes and put their Bolters on the Black Knights' bikes to make a Command Squad plus Specialists (Apothecary & Librarian) as the sculpts and parts are too nice to waste on regular Marines! Also second hand bikes are quite cheap so striping and swapping parts around would let you build a Command Squad as well as Plasma Outriders. I think for running them no upgrades except vox and auspex is probably the way to go! 6 Plasma Outriders! One of them has an Auspex but it's not in the picture, I do need to give them a Vox though... The Pounder
Thank you both very much. Thats exactly what I was looking for! I have 6 total and I’d like to make a single squadron I think. Could I use a Thunder Hammer for the Sergeant? Or is that reserved for Command? SlickSamos
In 3rd edition Sergeants only have one attack, so I personally wouldn't upgrade him. But if I'd built them in 2nd edition I would've probably given him a Power Lance or Corvus Hammer (as a Power Maul). By the time I finish it'll be 4th edition so who knows what the right choice is The Pounder 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387873-ravenwing/#findComment-6169303 Share on other sites
The Pounder
I’m hoping to get all my Dark Angels done by September! So I won’t upgrade the Serg, what is his default weapon? Shard of Magnus
Chainsword is the default. That’s a great point on the attacks for the outrider squad. I have used the praetorian command squad version when I’ve tried them because they have 3+ attacks and the 2+ save. But I wasn’t using plasmas either as my intent was to get them in to close combat.
