Galron
I have been listening to alot of podcasts about 11th as I have been trying to put a dent in my Dark Eldar pile of shame. There are some interesting combos that seem to be possible now. Cartel with the wyche 1DP detachment- Best of both worlds Splinter Assault with either the wych or kabalyte 1DP detachment. No one loses anything and one aspect just gets that much better. I cant stand the covens so I will leave that for someone else to discuss. The 1DP detachments just seem like an easy way to put decent buffs on a variety of unit types. Looking forward to getting some units on the table again. Bouargh
The new Detachment struture with various combinations made possible start looking out seriously to 6th Ed Force Organization Charts. If I remember well, the DArk ELdars/Drukhari were essentially based on 3 small FOCs to be combined in order to harvest the best of the army. One was Kabalite, one was Wytches and the last one was Haemonculus... Looks familiar nope? If the logic is kept, and seen the design cycles do not reinvent but rather revisit concepts, I guess that the dark kin archetypes may still be designed around the idea of synergies by combining small thematic detachements. One doubt/interrogation that remain to be solve though, is how will the Corsair and HArlies fit in the picture. As such I might put a bet on the Drukharii being designed around 1DP detachemnts as main mechanic. Dr. Clock
I don't actually expect Harlies or Corsairs to join Drukhari other than through the existing Ynnari framework, which is a true shame. I've always thought of my Drukhari as effectively more Corsair than Commorite, but for game purposes there is no really good reason to put kabalites or wyches in an Ynnari list other than rule of cool. Basically I don't know why I can't have at least like Scourges and Ravagers alongside Skyreavers and Falcons. More than this, however, I just can't yet forgive them for taking the Court and Grotesques out back so unceremoniously. That kinda killed my enthusiasm for the army and I didn't even buy the codex this edition as a result; the first one I haven't bought since 5th. I have a suspicion that some bigger things are in the works for the army in the next couple years, but the codex didn't... inspire joy, let's say. I think my first game with Drukhari might just be 'all 3 new 1DP detachments', since my Deepcovens can throw a good few 'Talos' out there, and in general I'm just interested to try the new rules than hang a new hat on the old... Maybe stick with Kartel though as I do think of the army as essentially a merc force and I'd rather have rules buff Mercenary than Wych Cult units, of which I have very few. If they put Legends in the app for Drukhari quickly, there's a slim chance I'd buy the book before the next one, and I do suspect that the Drukh side will be more favored for releases than Aruryani etc. this edition, so there's hope. My dissapointment with Drukhari in 10th is certainly leavened by the breadth and quality of Craftworld stuff we got, and the Corsairs obvs. Cheers, The Good Doctor.
