Brother Tancred
I have returned brothers! After a long hiatus from 40k (play MESBG mainly) I have decided to give it another crack with 11th edition around the corner. My friends and I are organising a slow grow and this thread will document my WIP as I gradually build my starting 500 points and above. For such an occasion it only feels right to push the hobby boat out and culminate around 10 years worth of ideas and create my own Chapter. The key features I wanted was their main colour to be Citadel's Dark Reaper base paint and their chapter badge to be an owl. I'll collate my ideas for their background but in the meantime using a little AI magic I present to you: While I wait for the Armageddon launch box I've painted up a spare Primaris marine as a test model and personal I'm delighted with how it's turned out. More to come. MetalFingers
Welcome back! I got pulled back in last year after a long hiatus as well. The marine looks great! Super clean. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Great scheme and great name. I have a soft spot for colour schemes which blend muted, earthy tones with slightly more militaristic and grounded designs. Looking forward to seeing where this goes. Brother Tancred
Sorry for the slow posting, I had an MESBG tournament at the weekend so was doing some last minute painting last week to get ready. However, now I can focus on 40k and I've managed to get the Space Marines needed for the new combat patrol set built. Just need to add the chapter badge to the intercessor squad and add some more basing bits and they will be ready to prime. Then I'll make a start on the rest of the marines from the Armageddon box. kabaakaba, Dr_Ruminahui, phandaal and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388069-the-watchkeepers-returning-to-40k/#findComment-6178140 Share on other sites
phandaal
All of those chapter insignia are hand sculpted? Impressive! Looking forward to seeing these guys painted up! I wish I was that talented. I used one of the old firstborn vanguard vets pads with the Aquila sculpted on with the heads trimmed off. Then managed with my limited skill to sculpted a tiny owl head to create a master to use with blue stuff and made a press mould. phandaal, Brother Captain Vakarian, Rusted Boltgun and 2 others 4 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388069-the-watchkeepers-returning-to-40k/#findComment-6178160 Share on other sites
phandaal
That is still really cool! Smart way to do it. Probably saves a lot of time as opposed to trying to craft hundreds of tiny feathers for your army. Brother Tancred
Slow progress so far but managed to get the first 5 intercessors to a tabletop paint job. Just the bases left to do but working the landspeeder first. More to come. Dr_Ruminahui
Looking great - that grey is so fetching with the gold and black. phandaal and Brother Tancred 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388069-the-watchkeepers-returning-to-40k/#findComment-6179648 Share on other sites
Brother Tancred
Some more slow progress chipping away at the Armageddon box of marines. the last few days has been focused on getting the landspeeder done. Just need to finish the base and do a few touchups and then I'm calling this tabletop ready. phandaal
Those emblems are looking great! Looks good as a larger version on the speeder too. Also, +1 for the color scheme! You really nailed it with the smooth paint job, and the little accent colors go along really well with their blue-grey armor. Necca34
Really gorgeous so far. The gray and gold are striking and your paint style is beautifully clean, as many have said. I also love the sparing use of white. It's in no way distracting, but adds texture and interest. The Pounder
Lovely work here @Brother Tancred. The muted pallet is grounded and gritty. Also the basing (on your first model) gives a contrast to the overall scheme. Brother Tancred
Thank you all for the comments and kind words. It's a good thing the paint job works as I'll be doing a far few more marines . I had my first demo game of 11th on Tuesday against Death Guard and it was a blast. A very close game with an 86-76 lost but I thought for a first crack at the game it was a decent showing. Man of the match was the Chaplain who managed to stand up single handed against 5 plague marines for 3 turns and eventually cleansed them. So for that honour he is next on the painting table. Here is a WIP shot after a quick session last night: kabaakaba, Firedrake Cordova, Dr_Ruminahui and 3 others 2 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388069-the-watchkeepers-returning-to-40k/#findComment-6181811 Share on other sites
WBRBloom
@Brother Tancred, this is some mighty fine work you've done here. I don't know your painting/modelling background, and what kind of models you used to paint previously, but the workmanship on the miniatures and the land speeder are superb. If I may add something here, and if you like it yourself, of course. I would have broken the greys/blacks and whites with a little bit of red, specifically on weapon housings OR in small trinkets, such as belt pouches or purity seals. If you don't want to go for reds, then maybe very muted browns; rhinox hide, followed by gorthor brown highlight is an amazing combination (and not too 'in your face' either). Again, up to you Brother Tancred 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388069-the-watchkeepers-returning-to-40k/#findComment-6181821 Share on other sites

Again, up to you Thank you @WBRBloom I really appreciate it . I agree they can do with a little spot of colour. I'm intending to go back and add more highlights later but due to time constraints and needing to get these painted for the Call to Arms I'm just base coating them for now. The leather is all painted dryad bark but appreciate you can't see it very well in the pictures. The intention is to go back and highlighted in gorthor brown so they pop a little more. I'm also experimenting with orange as another spot colour to contrast the blue/grey. Eventually all the eye lenses will be painted orange and the power weapons will get an orange glow. I've managed to get a quick paint session in this evening and painted the book on the chaplain in orange so would be interested in any comments. WBRBloom
That looks neat @Brother Tancred! Are you planning to use wash on it, to give it shadows, or simply highlight it? If yes, what colour wash do you intent using? Tempted to do the crozius handle orange too. Brother Tancred
Sorry for the long wait between post. Slowly been working through the vanguard vets alongside the chaplain to get them to a tabletop standard. I've painted my 1st company vets with white shoulder pads instead of helmets just to change things up a bit. Next up is either the captain or librarian. WBRBloom
Amazing work, @Brother Tancred! I really love the paintjob and how it stands out! Actually, the shoulder pad white, in conjuction with the grey of the armour and the gold insignia, reminds me of Gothic Revival statues you see in churches here in Scotland/UK. Love them! space wolf
@Brother Tancred I agree with @WBRBloom, I think a small pop of some vibrant color will take what already looks great, and bring it right over the top! might i suggest, incorporating a company badge on one of the knee pads? Don't take that as a criticism, as what you have here is REALLY quite striking! looking forward to seeing more.
