Charge Phase clarification

When charging, I must roll enough to reach base contact, but I don't have to make base contact - is that right? 

 

e.g, target is 6" away, I roll a 7. So I can move my models 7" so they end up within 0.5" so that they can move another 3" in the pile in part?  But once you 'touch base'. those models cannot be further moved. 

 

Is that right?

That's my understanding as well.  So, its generally best not to base when you charge, unless you deliberately want to restrict your movement (say, to keep models on a terrain piece).
