Korvette88
Someone told me that a unit has to be deployed in a dedicated transports at the start of a game, but I can't find that rule anywhere in the app. I think that was the case in 10th but I didnt play in that edition. I searched the app for dedicated transport/transport/embarked. The only thing I can find is where is says you noted down which units will start embarked. Am I blind? Dr_Ruminahui
That was definitely a rule in 10th, and I haven't seen it in 11th - so either the rule is hiding some where or it is no longer a thing. Korvette88
Ok so for now we can start a unit out of the transport at the start of the game. I looked through the current FAQs but I couldn't see anything there. Verbal Underbelly
It's difficult clearing your cache between editions isn't it? Here's the line from the rules we're going to look at today: Before the battle, in the Declare Battle Formations step, your units can start embarked within any friendly TRANSPORT model that has sufficient transport capacity remaining for the whole unit. The operative word here is CAN, this means transports can start the game empty if you wish. If the sentence said MUST then it would have to start with passengers. Dr_Ruminahui
While I don't disagree, and certainly that's where one would expect a mandatory embarkation rule, I don't think it necessarily is a definitive answer. GW has a really bad habit of squirrelling rules away in weird places (say, the mission set up rules) or out right contradicting themselves with an FAQ or similar document. This seems to be worsened this edition, so far at least, when there appears to be a bunch of the rules on the app that aren't in the Core Rulebook or otherwise released. So, my answer is probably but until someone has chased down all the other places such a rule might be hidden, its hard so speak in definites. DemonGSides
Quick search for dedicated in the core rules has nothing requiring them to be filled. Dedicated transports can adopt the scout keyword if their whole unit has scout, and that's about the only real ruling on dedicated transports in the book. None of the event primers have much about them either.
