The Introductory Set is designed for the very new and eminently curious, coming with 12 miniatures, six paints, an introductory book, a set of folding card terrain, a game mat, and all sorts of information to get started. Ork players take note – this is also an easy way to add a rocket launcha and a big shoota into the Boyz squad from the Armageddon launch box. Paint Sets Combat Patrol: Battlezone Quote Easily create a Combat Patrol-sized battlefield with this new terrain set. Nephaston
I'm gonna make a wager that these ork kits might also have interchangeability with the push-fit ones. Per the stream, the half-box of unpainted terrain (sized for a combat patrol game) will be "about the price of a combat patrol" and the full box of "ready painted" terrain will be "a little more than two combat patrols." I think this probably puts it at like 150-175 USD for an unpainted half board or about 400 for a full box of pre-painted. The unpainted stuff is all coming first, and then the big box of prepainted terrain is coming later this fall. Robbienw
Something odd going on with the legs of the introductory set marines. Reloading chap is cool though. Crimson Longinus
Introductory set orks are really nice. Only five though... Isn't boyz minimum squad size ten? Weird to sell just half an unit... The terrain is nice, I guess. I don't like the small roboarms on the walls. They look flat and unnatural. Also disappointed that there was no 3d version of the terrain area footprints. Nine orks plus a nob, so one introductory set and two sets of the one with paint will be a full unit (plus two grots to pose on the trukk or the base of the new bikers in front of the wheels :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388171-40k-starter-sets-pre-painted-terrain-sets/#findComment-6177501 Share on other sites

Brainmisfire
Did anyone else kinda feel there were too many different starter sets? The reveals just kept going. Not a big deal, just seems kinda weird to me that they would have so many different ones. Also, I'm a bit disappointed that there are 11 paints in the getting started with space marines box, because I've been leaning toward getting that since it was teased, but only because I assumed it would be priced cheaper than a combat patrol. With that many paints in it, I'm worried how they're going to price it. Now I'm back to wondering if I should get the Armageddon box and sell the Ork half lol. I do think there are a lot of great options here for new players though. Well the starter set is meant to get two people that definitely want to play the game started, the introductory set is for two people with tentative interest, introducing the kids, or those that need a real slow burn to learn the rules. and the paint set are for people that want to try out painting. And obviously, all are intended for filthy consoomers like me to get maximum miniature variety. I do think there are a lot of great options here for new players though. A lot of these are updates and analogues to sets that already exist. The tools + clippers, 2 marines + paints, and 2 boyz + grot + paints especially have directly comparable boxes, just with Infernus marines or Termigants. The box with tools and paints is a big upsell for people just getting into Warhammer. Someone buying their first box, and the GW employee says, "Do you have glue/clippers/etc? No? Well, we sell them, you can buy them individually for $X or you can get this box that has everything, and it's a much better deal." Bam, upsold, the tools and paints box goes on the counter. From there, you're looking at GW aiming at 3 separate buyers. One is the toe-in first timer with the basic starter box. A few minis, some terrain, just enough to get a taste of warhammer. Then there's the big starter, everything to get directly in to full combat patrols. And the third is the combat patrols buyer. GW kinda-sorta shot themselves in the foot with the mid-tier starter in 10th ed, it's $114 retail and a combat patrol is $170. For the space marine one, at least, all you need to do is buy the Terminator Librarian separate for $40 and you have the Space Marine combat patrol for $154, $16 cheaper than you could buy it as its own box, plus all the 'nids which is nearly the entire nid's combat patrol (lacking only the Barbgaunts). This means the mid-tier starter was positioned in a way that cannibalized their own combat patrol sales. Now, there's no mid-tier starter: there's just the combat patrols, but with some paints bundled in so they're "starters." How much those paints will cost us, I dunno. If I was sure I cold unload the characters, I might be tempted by the big starter set. A lot of FLGS with online presence would do sales of the midtier (already a good bargain price). It was a great way to get Assault Intercessors, Outriders, Warriors, and Skorpekh Destroyers.
