A mysterious ship bears down on Fenris and Bjorn the Fell-handed, legendary Space Wolves Dreadnought, believed to be the oldest loyalist Space Marine alive, wakes to meet it in a new novel by Justin D Hill.

The novel sees a ghost ship bearing down on Bjorn’s homeworld carrying an ancient foe, and with heretics from the traitorous Death Guard set to bring poxes and poisons to Fenris, the ancient warrior rises to its defence.

Bjorn: The Fell-handed will be available first in a glorious Limited Edition release, signed by the author, featuring a beautiful full-art cover depicting the Dreadnought’s sarcophagus, blue-silver foil details, printed page edges, and a black ribbon page marker.

For those keeping track, Bjorn was present when Leman Russ made his final departure from the Space Wolves – bidden to stay behind by his gene-father – and has spent over 8,000 years interred inside his Dreadnought, drifting in and out of stasis sleep whenever his matchless experience is needed. Though only awakened rarely by the time of the Indomitus Crusade, his wisdom and experience surpasses that of any other Dreadnought, and there are few in the Imperium who would not heed Bjorn’s sage advice.

The novel will also be available later in its regular hardback edition, with some cracking artwork of the Fell-handed in action.

Looks like no updated model for old Bjorn then.

On the contrary, surely this can be used as a reason to transfer him to a Redemptor chassis and showcase some in-lore reason why it won’t burn him out because Cawl’s made tweaks and the Wolfpriests have howled at the moon a bit more. I know they’ve walked back the burnout rate of the Redemptor’s a bit but if this novel doesn’t have Bjorn get smashed up and in need of a new chassis I’ll be stunned.

They usually announce updated character models along with their associated novels. And that artwork is all classic Bjorn.

They didn't with Huron (which had the same style of LE).
But Mad Dok Grotsnik had a book like that last year too. We will see if he has a new mini too with the new Ork release.

True but Hurons book was what 4 years before a new model and grotsnik is still resin as far as I am aware.

There is also an alleged new Venerable dread on the way, which may just be cawl style dreads without the egregious downsides.

As they should. The old squatnauts look awful vs the Redemptors or any of the FW Dread offerings.

There's always the possibility that Bjorn sacrifices himself at the end of the novel to set off some conflagration that incinerates/banishes the surrounding foe, only for the epilogue to reveal that his sarcophagus managed to conveniently survive, ready to be implanted in a "new" body.

It would be a weird way to do it, rather than building the novel around the new body, but this is GW/BL where down is up.

I will be very sad if the old Castraferrum goes extinct; as far as I'm concerned it is the 40K model.

Just because it's THE 40k model to you doesn't make it a good one objectively. The thing looks like it falls over if it tries to outrace a sloth.

The old dread is the most 40k thing there is. I am really hoping they bring then back with a height upgrade for Age of Darkness.

Personally I'd rather it didn't get scale-crept (in-universe it's supposed to be smaller to operate in confined spaces) but if they bring us a plastic Mk. IV on par with the Contemptor I will weep tears of joy and buy at least 7.

Bjorn would have a harder time teleporting and fitting into inquisition bridges in a redemptor chassis.

Can’t wait for this novel. I don’t think he needs a new model. I know a new model would look awesome though.

Lets not make oldie Björn into weird redemptor dread when even blood angels didn´t get proper librarian, furioso or death company kit yet either. But GW being GW we propably get some cawl pulls warp dust magic out of his mars hole and blows it at oldie to poof in sudden new variant of mega duper redemptor.

Just updating boxnaughts abit and giving them redemptor kinda posing opportunity would be amazing.

Also, why does he fire two barrels at once with his assault cannon?

Doesn't the Redemptor Chasis burn out the marine in the sarcophagus at a faster rate?

dunno about "faster rate" but knowing how they handled lore with most firstborn going to be primaris don´t survive it, to even Dante just suddenly begin primaris...

"The Martian Tech-priests in the service of Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl who first built these walking machines of destruction spared little thought to the health of the incumbent, seeing him as little more than another part to be interred or replaced as necessary.

Many of those Redemptors that have fought for a sustained period have already had their sarcophagi replaced, their original pilots burned out by the intensity of the machine's destructive prowess. There have even been instances where the Redemptor Dreadnought's surging energies have leeched its occupant's life force until he is reduced to nothing but a sac of blackened organs, fit only to be reinterred, this time in a true mausoleum dedicated to his selfless sacrifice."

You’ve forgotten the most important requirement GW have for their artists/authors: an almost total ignorance of firearms and/or military in general works.

Good catch, and rather obvious. Not how gatling weapons work.

Quality control should have caught this before the artwork was committed and accepted.

The artist should have known better, but the art director absolutely should have.

They cant put Bjorn in a Redemptor chassis.  Would be a massive violation to do such a thing to a venerable 40k character.

They should just produce a new updated larger Castaferrum model as the new venerable model.  Bit bigger, bit more poseable.  Do a Bjorn specific sprue for it.  Excellent.
