I have always liked Wraith Guard and Warp Spiders. I have painted dozens of each over the years only to sell them later(Its a habit). So with the new edition I have been bouncing ideas and am now working on a new Spirit Conclave army using the take and hold disposition. I took armored warhost as an extra detachment but it only benefits 1 unit.

Spirit Conclave/Armored Warhost

Eldrad(because)

Avatar

3 Spiritseers (higher duty, Light of clarity)

11 Storm Guardians(Eldrad and WC go here)

2 x 5 Wraithblades with axes

3 x 5 Wraithguard with D-scythe

5 Sky Reavers

5 Warp Spiders (action monkeys and bouncing around)

Warlock Conclave

2 Wraithlords 2 bright lance

1 War Walker Bright Lance, star cannon

Basic idea is the Wraith guard move up to the NML objectives. Each squad is backed up by either the Avatar or the wraithlords. The Wraith Blades(One of which has the reactive move) are further support/holders. Meanwhile the jumpy troops go do whats needed for secondaries and try to stay out of sight while doing it.

Problems: anti-armor is going to be a pain, but I havent actually run into too many vehicles so far this edition outside another eldar player who had three prisms. I am not really sure what I can do about it.

Have a Crusade league coming up soon. Starting at 1k points. Legends are legal. Its supposed to be non-competitive so I am not looking for how to make this into a true competitive list but looking for some glaring holes in my logic.

1k Spirit Conclave Take and hold

Spirit Seer-55

Spirit Seer-Stave of Kurnous

5 wraithblades with axes

5 Wraith Guard with D-Scythes

5 Wraith guard with Wraithcannons

5 Skyreavers blaster and shredder, blast pistol

Wraithlord 2x Bright Lances

Wraithseer D-cannon (the actual general)

War Walker bright lance/star cannon

Basic idea is the Wraithseer once a powerful farseer got a premonition while he was floating in the infinity circuit, woke up his companions and the spiritseers are trying to keep up and grabbed some extra units along the way. I wrote a short story about this easily a decade ago. Maybe I will work on it more during the Crusade.

I found some rules changes to the crusade so I have made the list a little different to be able to actually compete. As with most crusades I have played in, units are locked in after the first game.

Still conclave.

BoneSinger -(we are only allowed 2 of the same model in 1k so I threw in a bonesinger to accompany the eldar dreadnoughts and heal them)

Spirit Seer-technically the warlord although the wraithseer is the one leading the errant group of ghost walkers.

Spirit Seer

Wraithblades with axes

Wraithblades with D-Scythes

Storm Guardians (I needed some extra dudes who provide free sticky and they arent bad on overwatch)

Warlock conclave 2 guys with storm guardians

Corsair Skyreavers x5

2 Eldar Dreadnoughts with bright lances and flamers

1 War walker Bright lance and star cannon

With Take and hold, most missions require me to keep home and capture two points. I will run the 2 wraith infantry units backed up by seers and a dreadnought each to whatever objectives are most defendable. The storm Guardians are a red herring and will sticky the home and go running to one of the expansion objectives. Their use really depends on what my opponent has and is doing.

At 1.5k I add the Avatar, WraithSeer and another Skyreaver unit.

At 2k I squeeze in eldrad and 2 more wraith infantry units, and some rangers, voidreavers, or a Star Fang.

I played my first game this weekend VS a 1k sons army. Weebils wobble but they wont fall down.

It was a mirror match for dispositions as we were both Take and hold. His force consisted of 5 scarab terms and a term sorc, 10 flamer Rubrics and a sorceror, 3 surfing goats and a sorceror on a surf board, a forge fiend and a vortex beast.

I set up my blades, seer, and dreadlord on the left side, storm guardians in home objective, wraithguard, dreadlord, bonesinger and seer on the right side in cover. My warwalker became my courier for the agenda I was working on since I had to pick something so it was 6" from the center out of the center terrain. Skyreavers in DS.

He had his vortex beast by itself on the left, rubrics in center with forgefiend, surfing goats on far right in cover. terms in DS.

T1: I got first turn and got both wraith units to toe in to the left and right objectives with their accompanying escorts just behind and out of LOS while the Warwalker moved back into my deployment zone. I dont think I fired a shot this round.

His T1: He moved everything up the board toward their close objectives. His forgefiend did have LOS to my wraith blades and he killed 1.5 of them. The vortex beast used some weapon and dropped the wraith blades down to 1 model. On the right side he managed to kill a WG.

My T2: brought back a wraith on either side and healed a damaged on the right. He had to do some sort of secondary on the center and as he was toed in my Storm Guardians had to do something.  So once again everything moved up, getting into charge range on the left, and D-Scythe range(but outside 8") on the right of the surfing goats. Storm Guardians moved close enough to shoot the Rubrics. Vortex beast overwatched the wraithlord(I used my token to protect the wraith blades) and knocked him down to 4 wounds. So on the left the wraithlord knocked the vortex beast down to 4 wounds. On the right, they cleared the Surfing goats. My storm guardians and warlock conclave only managed to kill 2 rubrics and the warwalker supporting them wiffed entirely not even hitting them. Then everything on the left charged the vortex beast and the lord beat it down. Stormguardians redeemed themselves as I needed to get him off the center and they made a long bomb charge and actually managed to kill 2 rubrics and he killed a couple guardians.

His T2: He lost both of his wing units and scooted the forge fiend to toe in on his home in the back corner. His rubrics fell back and I used a token to follow up and barely was able to keep one guy within engagement range of him. This unfortunately took me off the center objective. He DS'd his termies into my deployment zone and cast some kind of spell that let him more again with them and got a guy onto my home objective and the rest into LOS of his my war walker who had screened him off the objective. War walker went down to a doombolt and a missile while I lost a couple wraith guard to shooting from them and the forge fiend. The melee fight in the middle continued and I killed two more rubrics and had a guardian, platform and the two warlocks left.

My T3: I got whatever secondary does the quarters thing and dropped my skyreavers behind the corner terrain. My now 3 strong wraithblades moved through the building. Wraithlord moved into the open on the left to get shots on the termies and managed to kill one. My 3 wraithguard on the other side shot up the termies killing one. My other wraithlord managed a wound and hit on the forgefield but he refused to fail a 5++ everytime. Battle in the center left me with one warlock and him with 2 rubrics and the sgt and sorcerer.

His t3: He turned his termies attention to the units hanging out in the right side objective and moved forward and I managed to kill another one leaving two and the sgt. The forgefiend moved up to the forward edge of his home objective. He killed his own terminator sorcerer doing a doombolt or ap spell. The warlock was killed in combat. He charged the wraithguard and managed a high enough roll to get the Bonesinger into combat as well and I lost two wraithguard but bonesinger was unharmed. Center rubrics were able to toe the center.

My T4: My now 4 strong wraithblades moved as close to the edge of the building in the left objective. I pulled plunder so my skyreavers stayed in place and did that. left side wraithlord moved to get the field in LOS. Its frikken stupid that a forgefiend is a vehicle somehow and gets a cover bonus from toeing in but a wraithlord who can literally duck back and forth around a corner to snipe a target or go on its knees behind a wall and shoot over it doesnt get cover. Anyway, once again from both wraithlords, magic 5++s to the rescue and no damage. The two wraithguard back out of combat and shoot the terminators and do nothing. The wraithlord standing next to the terminators charges in and kills one.

His T4: He gives up on the left side and starts moving his guys to the right. He brings the 2 remaining rubric and the sorcerer+sorcerer(C) and left the fiend in place with a toe on home. He manages to kill the rubric sorcerer with a spell and the character sorcerer is down to one wound from casting. His shooting kills the Spirit seer as he is no longer lone op and the wraithlord on the right is down to 2 wounds.

My T5: Everyone on the right side fails battleshock except the Bonesinger and I lose control of that objective because of the two terminators. I get consecrate as a secondary which presents a quandary. I make the wrong call not that it matters in the end. I jump the skyreavers over to left side objective and they consecrate. What I should have done was jump the skyreavers on his home and hopefully gotten all five on it to steal it away and consecrate then and gotten the  VP for taking it. The wraithlords attempt to shoot the forgefiend with their 4 brightlances. Only one gets through the 5++ out of the 4 that hit and wound. The now five man wraithblades run across the open space and get a toe on the center objective and consecrate it. However the lone rubric standing on it has a 2OC. The right side wraith lord now back to 5 health charges the rubric marines since he is in a conga line with the character farthest away meaning if I can kill a rubric he will no longer be on the objective. As predictable, he fails to wound with his sweep attacks while the wraithblades failed their charge.

We call it there as he is ahead by 2 at 63-65. He would have fallen back with the rubrics and I couldnt follow up since my seer was too far away. He would have killed the seer and the final wraithguard on the right. I might have been able to intervene with the blades if he fell back far enough but there was enough wiggle room and it was a 9" charge before. Probably would have killed the wraithlord and gotten bring it down.

Was a really good game. His spells were crazy giving him insane rerolls, negative damage and lots of minuses to my shooting. On the other hand he couldnt kill my guys fast enough since I was rezzing and healing them. It helped that he managed to kill two and almost kill the other two sorcerers on his own. That dang fiend refused to fail somewhere around 7 or 8 5++ saves. But, first time I have played eldar in years and the first time I have played this army at all and I did manage to complete an agenda and thread of fate.

Played a second game over the weekend. My opponent was an Imperial Guard player with a ton of issues with his list. He was playing Mech Infantry and said his disposition is Purge So I played the Immovable Force mission which was stupidly easy for my army to score high on when I read the card. If only I knew. I talked to him after the game, gave him some pointers, and he texted me later after he found out i guess they changed his disposition in an errata to recon(I think). He was very down on the guard for this edition and was getting frustrated since he hasnt won a game yet so this game didnt help him with that feeling unfortunately. That said, I felt it was a horribly built army and even if he had his disposition correct, it lacked many things it needed(I also play guard on occasion and have for 30ish years at this point.)

My mission was Immovable Force. In a nutshell, I want midground objectives and his home at the end. Layout was layout A and dawn of war.

He played Guard and I dont know what his objectives were.

His list was

Tempestus command squad with a commissar and a 5 man tempestus squad in a Taurox.

Cadian Squad with castellain in a chimera

Cadian Command squad with ogre bodyguard. Strategic Reserves

Some kind of Crucible character in an armored sentinel

Leman Russ (Autocannon one) with plasma cannons/lascannon/heavy Stubber/HK

Wyvern

3 Ogryn

Set Up for Layout A(two center objectives)

Wraithblades and Seer on far right to take my expansion.

Stormguardians in my Home objective

War Walker behind terrain in from of storm guardians

Wraithguard, both dreadlords, seer and singer in middle.

He set the Taurox and ogryns on my left behind his expansion.

Russ and Sentinel in the middle

Wyvern and chimera on his home and he thought the chimera was safe, which it would have been if I didnt move.

T1: I got first turn and moved my warwalker up slightly. Axeguard moved onto my expansion. Both dreadlords toed into the far left of the closer center objective while the wraithguard stayed out of it. Warwalker got a bright lance off at a weird angle to hit his chimera but he managed a 6 for an armor save. My two wraithlords then nuked it with their paired Bright lances and only two guys died when it was destroyed.

His T1: Cadians failed their battleshock, the russ and sentinel moved forward to get my three walkers in LOS. The taurox hauled butt forward and was able to get into the terrain on the left side and get the war walker in LOS. The ogryn toed into his objective and were out of LOS due to a solid wall. The Taurox took out the warwalker. The Russ shot one of my dreadlords and did 6 damage to it when I used the -1damage strat. I then agiled out of terrain. The sentinel fired at the other dreadlord and did 2 damage with its missile launcher.

T2: My wraithlords moved towards the Taurox after the two damage one was healed for 1 and the 6 damage one was healed for 3. Both were able to get it into LOS and it tried to reactive move but only got 2 inches. My guardians ran forward hoping to template the guys who got out. My blades were doing an action and just moved to the forward edge but still behind the solid wall of the expansion. Wraithguard stepped onto the close center terrain. So my dreadlords either wiffed or did minor damage to the Taurox after their outstanding Alpha the first round. So the Guardians managed to finish it off with their fusion guns and it blew up and killed several tempestus, 2 guardians and did a wound on the closer dreadlord. Apparently now disembark range is 6" and he ran back to his expansion. My wraithguard did 3 damage to the Russ. I miss them being actual D weapons. Storm Guardians make a longbomb charge into the Tempestus and kill all but the two characters and a dude or two and I lose several guys in return.

His T2: He noses his russ into my center terrain and kills one and damaged another and moved the sentinel into the other center terrain. His ogryns move up and charge the Guardians fighting his tempestus. Combat goes as expected and I have the two warlocks left, one of whom took a damage. Only the characters are left from the Tempestus.

T3: Warlocks run behind the solid wall of the expansion leaving room for the dreadlord when it charges. I drop my bird boys 8" from that fight and spend a token so he cant target them for overwatch. The other dreadlord now completely healed steps out of terrain and bright lances the sentinel to death while the two wraith units move up to charge the russ. Bird boys and dreadlord shoot 2 of the ogryns before both made their charge and killed the tempestor character and the last ogryn. We inflict enough damage on the russ that it is at 1 wound remaining thanks to devastating melee on the axe guys. ( definitely see why swords would be beneficial here). Also one of my wraithguard happened to be toeing the other center objective by nature of the melee.

His T3: he falls his commissar back and somehow shoots one of the warlocks. Just now wondering how but oh well. His russ kills a spirit seer. While the cadians and wyvern had been moving up and I more important things to worry about. His cadian command squad enters behind my home objective and thankfully I had moved my Bonesinger out of terrain on the other side of the solid wall last turn. He charged the lone spirit seer who was guarding my expansion with his cadians and killed him. Now my wraiths were ticked.

My T4: Dreadlord made short work of the commissar. Warlock passed his Battleshock test and stepped onto his expansion. Bird boys jumped to his center objective. Wraithguard move towards the cadians and the blades moved towards the wyvern. The other dreadlord moved towards the cadian command squad. Blades did not kill the wyvern but I did have enough charge distance to get a guy within 6" of his home objective behind it. D-scythes took out the cadians.  Dreadlord tried flaming the command squad but the bodyguard tanked it all including the bright lance. Not realizing he could do this, I swiped with my weapon in close combat and the ogre managed to tank most of it and then die.

His T4: the wyvern runs to my objective. The cadian command squad dies to my dreadlord who could now swipe with impunity. The blades move to his home objective while the wraithguard move onto my expansion and light up the wyvern taking it out.

I wiped him off the board T4. In the process I managed to accomplish every secondary I pulled to their max each time, I also accomplished all of my primaries to the max each turn thanks to there being two center objectives. Final score was 100-43. Yeah I will never pull that off again. Like I said, his force was very eclectic and didnt do what it was supposed to do even if he got the disposition right. He needed more transports, less toys, more damage dealers. The wyvern even though it shot every single round of the game barring 4, did not do a single wound to anyone. A regular sentinel would have been better than the character version. His commissar and tempestus command squad should have not been there. Granted, I am very orders light with my guard. I might bring some to help my heavy weapons teams and blobs of kriegers but thats it for the most part. Oh well. Need two more games before October.
