Evil Eye
It seems that the Intercessor squad may finally be getting a refresh; it is currently completely absent from GW's store. Amusingly the Tactical Squad is still there... Nephaston
Gotta optimize all that space occupied by the thirty different choices of magazine/breech assembly per 10-man. My bet is the space is gonna be used for the full suite of melee weapons for the Sergeant. Doghouse
I know it won't happen because of the five models per sprue format, but I'd really like to see a heavy weapon and special weapon snuck in. if it is being redone. To be fair it could do with a do over given all the sights and ammo clips taking up dead space. It'd be an insane missed opportunity to not add Tactical/Sarge options to a new sprue. I've brought it up in discussions here and on Reddit, but an upgrade sprue with the weapons on it would also be a boon to Deathwatch. Standard Marine players get to carry on the Tactical squad legacy and get more flexibility in their infantry, and Deathwatch codifies the loadouts for their Fortis kill teams instead of having to get multiple boxes for one unit. Would be a huge win/win for both sets of players! I would say the reveal of a new multipart kit is more likely. I am feeling a bit of excitement towards this because GW might just surprise us with some interesting weapon options. Even if this doesn't pan out, it would still be nice to have all the Sgt wargear in the box instead of having to source bits for him. Matrindur
I'd be surprised if there isn't some new special weapon option that due to no wargear costs is basically mandatory and as such makes everybody rebuy all their Intercessors they collected through the years. They have to create a reason for you to buy a new Intercessor box after sitting on a mountain of them already. Same thing as what GW did for the Ork boyz by letting them have every special weapon in a squad. The grenade launchers have always been nice too because they have basically always been in addition to the regular rifle fire so you got a mini rocket launcher effectively. when they parred the bolt rifle variants back to one you kind of got best of all worlds… but also lost the thing that made the unit sort of interesting. That said the grenade launcher got made a little better and you got to take two. my ideal “tactical intercessors” would be the current rifle rules, with the grenade launchers and the sergeant options, but also bringing back the stalker bolt rifle with basically the bolt sniper rifle rules from eliminators as an alternative to a grenade launcher, giving the entire unit proper combat knife profiles and then maybe some kind of option for a rocket launcher. That would then also make a pretty interesting setup in kill team too. Master Sheol Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM (edited) If the intercessors don't get new options i don't see the point to make a new kit for them. I think that now we have plasma, flamer and melta from the support squads having one special weapon each 5 models would be neat. But i am 100% sure that they will have just more variety with decorations and helmets and sergeant weapons and the loadout will remain the same. So just bolters with optional grenade launcher. Antarius Posted yesterday at 04:06 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:06 AM It may have been kind of a mess and I can see why they removed it, but I liked the different rifle variants and I thought they made a lot of sense if Intercessors are/were to exist alongside Tacticals. Small "combat squad"-type units with different rifles makes sense in many ways, both lorewise and gameplay-wise, I would say. As it is, I don't know what to hope for. "Tactical Intercessors" with heavy and special weapon (and, ideally, a boltgun/carbine option) is probably a pipedream, but it'd be perfect for me, personally. I just want my space marines to look updated but retain the classic feel and while I can make Intercessors work well enough for me in that regard, it sure would be nice if they were like that out of the box. Orange Knight
I don't particularly want to see more Boltgun variants. There are already so many spread across the different units, with their own "mildly unique" profiles. I am expecting some new Sgt options, however. Possibly a new weapon option to replace the grenade launcher? Blindhamster
This is why i think following the rifleman approach would work well for them Sergeant with nice melee entire squad with bolt rifles, bolt pistols and actual combat knives - fairly in keeping with real world rifleman squads grenade launcher - again pretty in keeping with rifleman squads bolt sniper rifle - equivalent to the marksman rifles someone in a rifleman squad often has heavy bolter or rocket launcher - technically both would make sense, i could see going a slightly different way and having heavy bolter AND rocket launcher equally This would make for a pretty great setup for kill team, it would also make it feel like the equipment and training the modern scout unit has kind of follows through to intercessors. I know some people would complain at "too many weapon profiles" though. The rifle parts were good and provided me with a great deal of alternate magazine options for Sternguard special issue bolters and other conversions, but what is shown in this image was always my issue. There's nothing going on here. Focusing on the variety of rifle bits doesn't excuse the absolute lack of variety that is present original batch of Intercessor sculpts (all variants). I don't really care for the lore justification for it. Cawl isn't going to reimburse me for spending extra on different armour part bits. I will be disappointed if the new Intercessor doesn't come with at least 13 helmets with different variants. 20 minutes ago, Blindhamster said: This is why i think following the rifleman approach would work well for them Sergeant with nice melee entire squad with bolt rifles, bolt pistols and actual combat knives - fairly in keeping with real world rifleman squads grenade launcher - again pretty in keeping with rifleman squads bolt sniper rifle - equivalent to the marksman rifles someone in a rifleman squad often has heavy bolter or rocket launcher - technically both would make sense, i could see going a slightly different way and having heavy bolter AND rocket launcher equally This would make for a pretty great setup for kill team, it would also make it feel like the equipment and training the modern scout unit has kind of follows through to intercessors. Angels of Death currently has most of these options with a mixed armour unit, still very limited in comparison to the Chaos Space Marine teams. No grenade launcher or missile launcher. I agree with the Tactical Intercessor idea mentioned in this thread. irlLordy
Angels of Death in KT most certainly has a grenade launcher option, its the intercessor gunner. Theres also distinct differences between the bolt rifle variants which may make you lean more towards one than the other and give (slightly) more options that you might think. Thats fine for Kill Team scale I think, same with say differences between autoguns and shotguns for other teams, but is a bit too granular for 40k scale. Flaherty
I hope they keep it around in some form. In the same way the Horus Heresy has multiple marks of armor, 40K could have battle-hardened intercessors with mismatched armor (11th edition kit) and new recruit intercessors with fresh armor (8th edition kit) on sale at the same time. The response to the Red Corsair Raiders, and the way they were eagerly kitbashed by Space Wolf, Night Lord, and White Scars players, shows there is a market for more renegade/primal power armor. You could imagine more filigreed armor for the Ultramarine/Blood Angels/Dark Angels, more industrial aesthetics for Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, and Salamanders. Having 4/5 Intercessor variants seems totally viable.
