Nephaston
Aas an 8th Ed. baby with no nostalgia, stickler for proportions, and a distaste for orb jointed waists in that style, the tactical kit has an amazing amount of variety and interchangeability, especially considering it has afaik only three sprues compared to the Intercessors four. Regardless of GW refreshing it or going for some form of "Tactical intercessors" kit they'll have the space to go absolutely nuts with it, but it will need to be at least it's equal in customizability to not be perceived as a downgrade, if they even think of re-jigging the loadout in any way. Personally I'm still hoping that this inevitable redo of Intercessors just mimics the 30k approach and does a full fat, fully bit variety style rifle squad, and use that one to build up with upgrade sprues to turn them into Hellblasters, Desolators, Infernus' , and maybe some fun 4th type of tacticus squad. Saves some storage space, tie these squads stylistically together, and get to redo some of the more questionable design choices of desolators for instance. Robbienw
We are talking about it because the Intercessor squad has disappeared from the website, likely because it is being replaced with a new version of the kit. Which, if it is the case, is a delicious irony because it is being withdrawn from sale before the kit it was supposedly replacing, that so many people insisted it was replacing repeatedly for many years. phandaal 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388321-intercessor-squad-gone-from-webstore/page/2/#findComment-6181493 Share on other sites
Jukkiz
I never really go the tube part on primaris weapons. It doesn´t really do "anything" in a sense, sure it can mount scopes and so on, but it doesn´t make any real sense for example in Space marine 2 game. In that it mounts scopes like in miniatures, but what´s truly baffling is that it SPINS when using plasma weapons. Sure we can toss it in as game thing, but still. In anycase, is it just power knob, mounting point, funny tech bit, fidget spinner. The possibilities lie in ones imagination i guess? Many primaris weapons seem to have it. Weirdly, even dark age of technology, the CULVERIN has this weird bit. But weapons wise, even the Reivers with "carbines" look way, WAY better proportions wise. They ain´t too big, nor have that weird roly poly bit on their weapon. And on weapons debate, many characters we know don´t have that weird bit in their weapons at all. But Dante has pistol with that bit aswell. Which baffles me even more, is it because old weapons are better, they´re relics, artificers needed couple inches more for decoration or what? EDIT: Also regarding primaris weapons, where might be the options? Tactical squad was known to be able to pick up heavy and special weapon. While yes, primarinades have those, they´re locked in full squads in most cases, just like in... Say it with me: HORUS HERESY. Evil Eye Posted yesterday at 11:49 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 11:49 AM I really should grab some more Tactical boxes. I said before but all you need is longer legs (either by extending the existing ones or printing replacements) and they look just fine next to modern minis. I do hope the new Intercessor box has more variety of armour parts. The Armageddon push fits are a step in the right direction but a bit more with the helmets and backpacks especially would be good. Also as already mentioned the options for special/heavy weapons would be great. I will say the bolter receiver options are one of those things that could have been done better if they had put the bolters and relevant options on their own sprues and included multiple per box (like shields and command options in old WHFB kits) rather than having them take up real estate on the Intercessor sprues themselves. Though granted, the simplified bolt rifle rules at least means my de-Primaris'd Marines holding proper bolters won't cause WYSIWYG problems. I also still think giving one model a marksman sniper boltrifle similar to how scouts get the sniper with precision would be neat too. You make the core marine unit have enough interesting things to be a legitimate and viable core to an army if you end up with: sergeant - melee 2x aux grenade launcher + bolt rifle- versatile shots in addition to base rifle profile 1x sniper - ability to whittle wounds off enemy SUPPORT characters 1x heavy - anti tank capaibility 1x special - anti X capability 4x bolt rifles entire units melee gets AP-1 like combat knives on scouts etc. the grenade launchers can be used in krak or frag profiles to supplement your heavy/special weapons each round as desired. The units melee is nothing special but its still a threat to lighter armoured stuff, the sniper helps remove problem characters. A couple of such units in an army would be interesting. In addition, having the sniper and aux in addition to classic tactical loadouts would make the units "tactical" versatility considerably better than classic tactical squads. AND the unit would feel like a pretty solid evolution from traditional scout squad. NothingHere
I really really hate the proliferation of upgrade sprues. I don't hate them in concept but GW has not made a single one worth a damn, outside of MAYBE the black templar one. (Atleast for 40k) The Blood Angels one literally had zero bar to cross to be better cause the first one was god awful. The new one barely is any better. Way too many bare heads, not enough interesting shoulder pads, 1 single helmet for regular dudes, the chainsword is better but still they put nothing on it again. The swords are ok, Eviserator and inferno pistol are cool but i am not giving props to them for adding things back in that we have alwaya had lol. Dark Angels atleast get some helmets in the one they got, the plasma cannon for termis is cool. That is about it. I am sure it is fun only having 1 single Ravenwing bit for your many different Ravenwing vehicles. :) The various other early primaris ones are fine? Sort of? The Iron Hands one is probably the worst. Lacking in variety but a new one isn't going to fix that. I don't hate the idea of the new intercessors being able to take a heavy and special (preferable the heavies be a Heavy Bolter or Heavy Flamer. I will actually throw the :cuss:ass desolation SuperHyperMegaUltraFrakerKracker Missile Puker into the trash) if it is sold in an upgrade sprue but odds are you are getting 1 Flamer, 1 Plasma, 1 melta, and what else? Bolt carbines? Grav rifle? Combi weapons? All that for probably 45$. So if you are like me (and i am fully aware, i am an outlier) who wants to build a company, this will effectively bankrupt you from trying to add what you actually want into your company. That is nitpicky but i just don't trust them to fill out a weapon sprue like they do in HH and not over charge the ever loving :cuss: out of it to make it not even worth buying. No other chapter gets such riches. Dark Angels are in 2nd place, then Blood Angels, and then everyone else. I feel GW have been too conservative with the upgrade sprues. They could have made such a difference. Edit: For some reason I thought that the Space Wolves have an epic upgrade sprue, but theirs is pretty barren. Instead, they just have a massive range at least 2x the size of any other. The Space Wolves' one is still the (doubled) little-sprue from 8th edition (like what the Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, Salamanders, Raven Guard, and White Scars have). As you note, they then got a very full release in 10th - multiple "troops" kits, Wolf Guard(s), and Characters - so the absence of a new Upgrades & Transfers is not notable. (IIRC, GW was still also selling the old 7th edition, pre-Primaris, Space Wolves Upgrade sprue until fairly recently.) // The Black Templars' 9th edition release also provided a wider foundation (Crusader Squad, Sword Brethren, Characters); their (2-sprue) Upgrade kit is then designed to provide you some pauldrons for Tacticus and Gravis units, some Neophyte options left out of the Crusader kit (5 shotguns), Vehicle bits, and a whack of what I will term "cool bric-a-brac". The Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Ultramarine releases of 10th were a bit more "top heavy" (DW Knights/Inner Circle, Sanguinary Guard, Characters). Their Upgrade kits focus more on a broad spectrum of pauldrons (Tacticus, Gravis, Phobos, TDA, BGV), a couple unique Chapter options (Plasma Cannon/Watcher, Inferno Pistol/Eviscerator), Termie Sgt. Chest Plate/Storm Bolter casing/Power Sword arm (10th being "the Terminator edition" I suppose), heads, and a smattering of Vehicle bits/random accoutrements. // For comparison, the Night Lords have a pseudo-Upgrade sprue in the Nemesis Claw kit. It is also 2-sprues and full of great bits, but explicitly for the basic CSM Legionaries that it is sold with. (No Terminator/Havoc pauldrons, no Vehicle bits, etc.) You can still use those heads/pauldrons with much of the rest of the line, of course. The Iron Warriors and Red Corsairs then have 1-sprue Upgrade kits, with Legionary/Chosen/etc and Terminator/Havoc pauldrons, some heads, and a pair of arms (Thunder Hammer/Power Fist, superfluous Chainswords). No Vehicle bits, etc. Edited 5 hours ago by LSM Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388321-intercessor-squad-gone-from-webstore/page/2/#findComment-6181624 Share on other sites

I know there already are many units in the game that are like this, but it is bad design, especially for a basic battleline unit. Resolving half a dozen different weapon profiles for each unit slows down the game a lot. Mostly units should have max two different weapon profiles to be resolved in a single phase. If Intercessors were to have new shooty options, it should be something that either replaces the basic guns for everyone (like option for bolt carbines instead of rifles) or replaces the grenade launcher (perhaps different types of combi-weapons, as those seem to be coming back and auxiliary grenade launcher is basically a combi-weapon.) After thinking about all the Space Marine sub-faction refreshes that came out lately I believe Black Templars are the only Chapter that got one that was 100% good, even the Space Wolves as nice as the basic infantry kits were suffer from the same issues as the Dark Angels and Blood Angels (lack of ranged special weapon options, 3 man veteran unit and somewhat limited leader character models). The Black Templars have a unique basic infantry unit with weapon options, a 5 man veteran squad out of the box, unique characters and a decent range of generic HQ choices. That's without the upgrade sprue. I think the upgrade sprues we have right now and the veteran equivalents for Primaris Space Marines pale in comparison to kits like old Sternguard Veterans, Vanguard Veterans, Sanguinary Guard, Death Company, Dark Angels Company Veterans and Deathwing Terminator Command. Take the example of the old Sternguard Veterans kit and the new Sternguard Veterans and to some extent the Company Heroes box. The old boxes provided a lot more options for kitbashing and the ability to spread out the contents of the box across your army to give it some character. A box with limited build options like that isn't really conducive to kitbashing without some heavy modifications. I think the Dark Angels and Blood Angels had it the worst. They lost far more than they gained. The Sanguinary Guard lost most of its weapons and the decorated Aquila and Errant pattern helmets that you could use to make Veteran Sergeants or the old Honour Guard unit. For the Dark Angels compare the Inner Circle Companions to the Company Veterans, not much options to split the unit and make 5 robed Veteran Sergeants and there's only 1 bolter in the whole kit. Deathwing also lost a ton, 3 sprues just like the old kit but only half of the options present. To get the plasma cannon back you have to buy a whole separate sprue with a bunch of things you don't want. I don't think this is better. Sure the proportions are better but the way the kits are laid out it's inherently unfriendly to the consumer. I would hate it if the new Intercessor box had to rely on an upgrade for its basic options. An upgrade sprue to turn it into a Devastator style squad? Sure, I wouldn't mind that. Anything else seems overpriced and impractical. That's without the upgrade sprue. I would argue that the lack of special weapons on the sprue is an issue with the current unit design paradigm rather than with the sprue per-se. The ability to drop a plasma gun or two into a squad is less valuable when anyone can drop a unit of Hellblasters onto the table as there are no longer limited "Heavy" slots to worry about. I actually quite like the Space Wolf Headtakers as they work as SW-flavoured BGVs. All factions seem to have 3-man heavy-elite infantry while retaining access to the 5-man Vanguard and Sternguard squads. I don't dispute that the Black Templars got the best deal but as a Space Wolf player too, I was pleased with our update and feel we came a close second.
