Hey all! Been a long time since I posted anything on the B&C. Recently got back into the hobby and a buddy of mine wanted to dabble in Kill Team, so I figured I'd join him in the fun. I decided to go with Red Corsairs because taxes suck and space pirates are cool  Decided to start a progress log here to keep myself motivated to finish them in a timely manner. So far, just a few WIP shots of the first three on the desk. Apologies for the image quality. Just using my phone camera.

Butcher - This dude was so much fun to put together. Had a blast kitbashing it. Former Space Wolf, probably will paint him up with a big ol Mark of Khorne on his greave.

Plasma Gunner - This guy sucked. Do not recommend sculpting scales. 0/10 experience, the fact that they're not perfectly symmetrical is driving me nuts but they're as good as they're gonna get.

Icon Bearer - Gotta have a Fallen in there somewhere. This was my first attempt at sculpting robes. Think they turned out okay. Still gotta sculpt a backpack banner for him.

Still have to put together the Heavy Gunner, the Balefire Acolyte, and the Aspiring Champion. Very much open to suggestions as to what chapters/legions they should all come from!

Cheers,

Very nice! I really like the sculpting on the AL's chest. Only comment is that the plasma gun looks a bit unwieldy in one hand.

Appreciate it! I honestly did that on purpose. I always build my plasma gunners with bionic arms and firing them one handed. I have terrible luck with gets hot, so its an ode to my terrible die rolls

A bit of progress today. Got the Heavy Gunner put together. Wanted to give him just a touch of warp taint and make him look beefy. Feel like I pulled off both pretty well. The heavy bolter was super fun to convert. Very pleased with how the handle and firing mechanism swap went! Open to suggestions for the original Legion/Chapter for this lad! All of the marines will have something that ties them to their origins, so for this guy I'm thinking of painting his original (defaced) heraldry on the tilt shield.

Next up I think I'll tackle the Aspiring Champion!

Really nice kitbashes

Why am I picturing this now?

Got the Aspiring Champ built! Dude took a lot longer than expected, only because I trimmed off all of the arrows and triangles on the armor to keep him in line with the rest of the guys in the squad. I also resculpted the robes on the Fallen. Much happier with the result this time around. Didn't snap a picture of him though, so just take my word for it that they look better than before

If anyone is planning on mixing bits from the Raiders and Legionnaire boxes, as a heads up, arms won't be an issue but backpacks and capes will. It takes a bit of trimming on the cloak/sanding down of the back of the torso where the backpack normally sits to get the cape bits to fit, and then the backpack to fit on top of the cape.

I've got two days to finish up the Balefire Acolyte and that's gonna be a tall order for what I have planned. I've got a Master of Possession on my desk and I had the bright idea to convert him into a witch doctor-esque traitor Mortifactor Librarian. It's gonna require a lot of trimming, pinning, and sculpting. I've got til Friday night to get him finished before I hop on a train to Tokyo Saturday morning, so wish me luck

Also, still need suggestions for the heavy gunner's origins!

Nice one.

For the heavy gunner go for executioners. Some guy who really join Hurons heresy

Makes sense to hold it as far away from yourself as possible!

Anyway, fantastic work! Hope you manage to get your psyker done in time

Not as much progress as I would have liked over the past couple of days, but I did manage to get the sculpting on the staff almost finished. Gonna add two more bones on the bottom right and left, but this is where it's at now. Definitely think it gives more of a witch doctor-y vibe  Also got the head from the master of possession removed and dremeled/leveled out the collar. Still have to sculpt a psychic hood, ports, run the cabling, smooth the right shin and sculpt some more bones, and then figure out what to do with the backpack

The plasma guy brings back memories of this old meme.  I like the way you modelled the heavy bolter being carried - you did a great job reconstructing the handle and trigger.

Also like the cape guy with the power fist - the furred elements make him look really grizzled.  From my experience with capes and backpacks, with models with furred capes (or fur on the upper part) you can often use putty to hold them in place, then shape the edges of it to look like fur - that's what I did with all my chaos space marines with chaos warrior's capes.

As for the witch doctor, I suspect it would be easier to take the back torso of a Librarian and splice it in rather than building one from scratch.  If need be, I probably have one from the Dark Vengence librarian (so the Dark Angels guy from the 6th and 7th ed boxes) that I could pop into the mail to you, though that route would obviously delay your build.  Anyway, let me know if you are interested, either here or by message.

Hey I appreciate the compliments! And that meme will never get old

I had looked at using the back torso of a grey knight or a librarian model to snag the psychic hood, but the back of the Master of Possession has so many cool feathers, bones, and other witch doctor-y stuff on it that I didn't want to give it up. Plus the cape looks really cool. Despite not posting for a few days, I have make some decent progress on sculpting a psychic hood for him! Hopefully I'll have some pictures of it later on this evening  I'm currently letting the second layer of milliput dry. I think I'll need one more thin layer to even a few spots out before I sand it smooth and start adding details to it.

Some unfortunate news, I managed to spill a bit of plastic weld on my desk and it got all over the headpiece for the staff  So it's basically just a deformed blob now. I wasn't able to find a bits supplier that had the headpiece either, so I had to order a whole other Master of Possession just for that one part. Fortunately I was able to salvage the bones I sculpted for it so I won't have to redo those. Thankfully there's still plenty of sculpting left to do so I don't think progress will be halted too much.

More to follow later!

Ooooh, yeah, that's the sauce.

Love this model. Does it have a saucy subscription page?

A good idea, but may I suggest an Astral Claw, since they're the boys who inhabit Uncle Huron's raiders (who didn't fall to chaos).
