Good news...WG Terminators can reach T7 now...so keep spamming Terminators if that's your play style

 

Bad news...SW just lost a ton of list building versatility 

 

I personally was using 3x vindicators with headhunter task force as my ranged firepower...it let me rip up opposing SW meta lists using Terminators 

 

No clue what I can use to shoot now after these changes

That update will make a serious dent into my collection, and into many gamer's collection for that matter. Yikes, that stings quite a bit. I hope they make some very compelling Detachments, Datasheets and special rules to compensate this. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not hyped about the new Intercessor profile - T5 won't make them suddenly more survivable, but they'll cost more now...

Although I'm not surprised they're phasing out all firstborn units, it's still is incredibly frustrating. Since I'm only a casual player, I plan on proxying Rhino chassis as Impulsor chassis. They also are going to make Grey Hunters in Bastion/Veterans of the Fang obsolete with the new Intercessor datasheet it looks like. If points stay the same, Intercessors will be 15pts less per 10, get to perform actions after shooting/advancing, and save you a detachment point. The main reason to take GHs would be for the reroll 1s to wound/twin-linked and have a SW specific unit.

I'm a casual player too - and will be doing the same.  I'm not changing my 2 rhinos and a predator with paint jobs I love, for new models.

 

So what do I choose instead of annihalator and a vindicator?  I never really picked any of the new vehicles because the old ones were my models.

I'm struggling to see the positive side on this ... I read this is just the first update and more will come out - but what we are losing for +1S and +1T on some models seems crazy!

There's no equivalent for the Vindi unfortunately. Annihilator you'd want to run as a Gladiator Lancer.

Sorry to everyone losing model usage. That stinks. 

 

I expect we will lose many of our SW detachments with the PDF replacement supplement when Codex Marines comes out. Potentially hallowed out and  become 1DP. I’m not sure what to expect if marines in general go the way of Orks with a 1DP detachment for each unit. I’m still puzzled by their codex only having one non-1DP detachment. I’ve got enough stuff to work on while I see how this plays out. I would not be buying up to 30 terminators until we know how this plays out. There’s a real chance they may cap that unit at 5 (and keep GH at min 10)
 

Apokalypsi I am assuming they will update the weapon profiles for everything and grey hunters won’t be stuck with a comparatively trash bolt carbine.

I am pretty sure that you are right. We have already seen Infilrators and their Bolt Carbines have gone to S5 Ap-1 (and gained Precision) so I think it is fair to assume that will be the new base profile for all Bolter weapons.

 

There are a lot of unknown unknowns at this point. Orks having only a single 3DP Detachment was a surprise so we will have to see how that shakes out with Marines. Another persistent rumour is that OOM is going away as the faction rule to be replaced by Combat Doctrines. This would be great if it is true but will probably lead to Saga of the Greatwolf disappearing.

 

We also don't know if we will retain access to Intercessors or if we will go back to having only Grey Hunters and Blood Claws as our Battleline units.

 

On the plus side, the humble Rhino has survived the purge and the current rumour is that Primaris units will now be able to embark on it. Back in 5th edition, I used to run a mechanised force with multiple squads of Grey Hunters in Rhinos. I can see that being cool again!

I wouldnt give up on the firstborn tanks just yet. The predator and Vidicator are iconic units for 40k. The fact that we'll get a new rhino hints that we are just looking at a model refresh treated similar to how the handled the land speeder. It'll probably take til 12th edition but I dont think they are gone for good. I expect Ill get to add a 3rd generation of the tanks to my collection before too long.
