Lathe Biosas Posted September 4 Share Posted September 4 I was digging through some bits today, and I came across a model that has lived in my bits collection since... 1998. Iron Hand Strakken. It's survived endless bits trading and sales and I still don't have a use for it. I tried giving it to a Imperial Guard player, but they turned it down. What do you do with your old models that no one wants/uses? Do they just live in a box until the end if time? Heraclite Posted September 4 Share Posted September 4 They might not always be usable as is in modern armies, but old models have so much charm. I'm on my way to completing Schaeffer's last chancers, and their place is already found in kill team. The initial plan was to use them as deathkorps veterans, but with the release of spectre squad they are a good fit too. So 2 kill teams for the price of one! I'm also doing a scout kill team with old scouts, mainly using metal models with a sparkling or old plastic scouts too. As to what I do with old minis - I paint them up as well as I possibly can and enjoy them. I've recently been painting the original Steel Legion minis which are proudly taking to the field in my Horus Hereay militia. I've just got hold of the original rogue trader space marine scouts. I can't wait to add them to my Sons of Horus. One person's unwanted mini is another's treasure. Antarius Posted September 5 Share Posted September 5 (edited) I'd say sell it for (relatively) big money or, if you don't want to keep it yourself, give it to someone. I'm sure lots of people out there would want it and would be happy to pay the postage. I've done that with some of my semi-old GW books that I didn't want anymore and it's a nice, "free" way of spreading hobby joy. That being said, I also have a bunch of old minis lying around that I'll probably never use. I guess they're probably going to be lying around forever or get traded away some day when I chance upon someone who wants them. As a second choice, if there's no sentimentality there, some extra cash is always nice. calgar101 Posted September 5 Share Posted September 5 All of my 'old' models are in cases/Wham boxes enjoying retirement. I haven't played in since 8th and haven't played Apocalypse in a while so for most of them, they are just sat there. I dont want to sell them off as some I've had for 20 years and also their value is not worth the effort. Two Tyrannic War Veterans and four metal Veterans with mixed armour. Some of them could survive the razor saw treatment and become models that would fit the current the scale, but others don't have that potential. Nocturne Noble Posted September 9 Share Posted September 9 I'm probably sitting on a demi companies worth of Firstborn and tanks that I purchased for what was supposed to be a long-lasting commission that fell through. Further compounded by the release of Primaris. Even though I only got roughly 90% of what I sent back, sans misc bitz, the collection fills up two deep containers, and that's after I gave away multiple boxes of the old battleforce to neighbours and former flatmates over the years. I've always been too lazy/intimidated to take stock and sell them off, but now that most of it is Legends I'm hoping their value will increase and act as an incentive to finally clear them out, and make a profit. Yet I fear that's what everyone else is thinking... If it's a faction I like/still hobby with, I hold onto them and use them for future projects. Other factions I try to find someone in my social cirlcle that wants/needs them. I have trouble parting with anything. Sometimes I'll give away stuff, or sell stuff cheap to new folk that are just starting, but even that is difficult (sold some old school plastic termies, a few primaris and the Imperium exclusive plasma pistol captain for like 60 bucks. The captain itself was trading at like $70-$90 on ebay, though pretty sure you could find him cheaper on other sites). Not even attached to primaris as much as my other dudes. Eventually everything will hopefully see paint before I die.
