It definitely helps when the guy painting is able to produce box art models at the drop of a hat. He could probably make a £2 introduction to finger painting for 3 year olds set work better than my Vallejo

I still miss his YouTube channel. He made some excellent tutorials

I think the issue thats gonna come up the most with the paint is simply 2 things, Cost and the pots.

The issue there is the paint seems to be actually good.

The type of pot is quite clear, but has there been any reliable numbers for the cost given yet?

While not fully confirmed, based on the prize pool its been worked out to be £4.10/£4.20 a pot which even for GW is pure avarice.

I've been told to expect $8.50 CAD, so about a 50% increase from the standard Citadel Colour range.

From what I have seen, although I am in the process of updating my paint collection I think I will give these a pass. Having watched a lot of the videos I don't think they are as ground breaking as a lot of people make them out to be, especially when compared to the release of contrast, and nothing I can't already get cheaper elsewhere in dropper bottles.

I just started using Army Painter Triads and can't justify the extra cost to buy the new Tone paints.

I am curious how durable they are; I'm sure they will be fine for tabletop use of course but if they're tougher than your average aqueous acrylic they might be good for gunpla etc too. It's definitely possible, Kaleido acrylic is almost as durable as some solvent paints. I'm not expecting it but it would be very cool if they are like that a bit.

they didnt seem too tough when i tried them but that was only a short drying time.

If you're happy with fanatic triads, then stick with those, the coverage isn't significantly different. Personally I've struggled to thin them just-so at times (the handful I have) as replacements for my gw layer paints/reaper/old Vallejo for highlights and I already have solid base coat paints in pro acryl or contrast/speedpaint for texture.

The big lack in pro acryl is a small range and some big jumps, so there's a fair bit of custom mixing, which I hate for army painting.

Pentads plus ready to use out the pot with good flow, decently vibrant colours and coverage that's on par with others, that drybrushes well and is easy to edge highlight with (the two things Vince flagged as strengths) is exactly what I'm after. Price isn't great, but then 2tc and pro acryl are also both well north of £4 a pot, and it's not like I actually finish pots very often so cost per ml is less important to me personally. AK is nice paint, but the colour range feels a bit tricky to navigate when I can only order online.

Tone Pro is definitely not revolutionary, and there's plenty of reasons other ranges may suit people better which is perfectly valid, but I think there is a space there for them in the market.

They look interesting though given my current pace at building let all be painting (non existent while we sort the house...) there will probably be another line out by the time I pick some up. I am slightly confused by the timing though I know they were rumoured for a while but paint ranges usually drop in a quiet year. An optimistic part of me thinks this could be the most proof of the warhounds impending reveal than anything else what better for a new range of self leveling paints than a load of large flat surfaces.

As a normal punter not an influencer I had a chance to try these in a shop today.

I didn't really like them at all. I was looking for a use case so I tried the white (always a problem colour) and a sort of ochre that reminded me of the late lamented foundation paints (desaturated colour but with good coverage). I chose a grey primed mini because I rarely apply basecoats over pure white or black.

I was basically instructed to apply them without thinning, the staffer was really pushing the one thick coat angle. A somewhat oily consistency compared to the more milky paints I'm used to. On different parts of the model,  I applied an even(ish) coat, a blobby(ish) coat, then I got some on a pallette and thinned it a bit and tried a more normal coat.

None dried streak free, all showed a tendency to pool in the recesses. Even a second coat didn't really provide an even cover. The staffer demonstrated how the medium could be used to turn a paint into a wash and I tried a drybrush (with one of GW's weird not-soft drybrushes). Nothing special.

I don't think these are going to change the game for people the way contrast paints did. I currently don't see a reason for me to buy any of them.
