Friendly (Slaaneshy) tip that for less than the price of one of those dry brushes a set of eye makeup brushes would be the exact same

They might a trim but thats it. Heck for experiments or terrain you could get a set for €5/$5/£4/aus $14

Had the opportunity to use them recently in local GW! Personally I think they work best with a touch of water added, but they barely need any and they are very nicely behaved with that little bit of thinning. The coverage is pretty good, still needs two coats for full opacity (at least over the dark grey primer I was painting over) but they definitely cover faster than most paints of similar colours. The sandy yellow (I forget the name) was particularly good in that regard, and reminded me of a thinner Averland Sunset. The main draw to me was the actual colours themselves; they're delightfully saturated, so for places where you need a really bright pop of colour they're excellent.

Honestly I'm pleasantly surprised by them. I think I'll get a small selection of colours for supplementing my main paint arsenal, mostly the brighter ones where the good coverage and high saturation really shine.

So, we have official prices. 5.45€ a pot.

Vallejo game color 3.30€ for 18ml,

Army Painter 3.90€ for 18ml,

Tone Pro 5.45€ for 12ml, and thus 8.18€ for 18ml.

LoL at the Shills with the price isn't so crazy nonsense.

The Richard Grey review seemed more ugly-and-bad-than-good than good. TBF, I think that has to do with him being absolutely S-Tier and having a unique style that relies on heavy dilution and lots of textured brushwork. Overall, it feels a bit of a wasted effort. I hope this line brings new people through the door, but would have preferred they spend their precious R&D time on something like markers or improved metallics. My FLGS has the rack, and it just seems weirdly duplicative. Like they probably could have bundled the original line into five-step sets and gotten 90% of the value as part of the rebranding to Warhammer. I'm going to buy half a dozen for testing purposes, but my expectations are low.

Unfortunately none of the previews really prove anything. Master painters paint masterfully. Once ordinary folks get the paints in their hands we'll see.

Not to be miserable but I'll be glad to see the back of the articles. I know it's marketing but it's been too much.

Is constantly raising prices to patch sales gaps a sustainable business model? All the quarterly report gloat posts seem to think this is great. Products being readjusted so they have less in the box for more? That must be great too.

I'm clearly buying two thin coats from the wrong place, list price is £4.50, or £3.95 per from my usual paint store; £4.10 RRP to £3.28 for tone pro.

So 26.3p/ml for two thin coats, 27.3p/ml for tone pro. Obviously pro acryl etc get cheaper too with vendor discount £4.55 -> £3.83, 17.4p/ml for me). Having tried Fanatic for layering/edging and finding it not to my taste, and vallejo/AK difficult to navigate the colour ranges online only, and already having the entire range of mainline Pro Acryl but needing more colours, basically I was looking at Two Thin Coats as my last remaining triad type option. I have a handful - lovely paint overall, edges really nicely, little pastelly at the top end, but bottle lids fill up with dried paint *really* badly.

So I've done a pre-order of a handful of tone pro (red, yellow & flesh) - I rather liked them in person, so giving them a shot as layer replacements and keeping my pro acryl (given I already have them, and almost half the price per ml!) for base coating and bulk colours - diluting for highlights is fine, if not outstanding, so I can use for that too. If I didn't have pro acryl, fanatic or AK would also work fine in that role.

I really like using Two Thin Coats, and this is by far their biggest, (and my only real) issue. If you screw the caps on unreasonably tight EVERY use, you can prevent it, but mess up just ONCE and they're irrevocably a pain in the :cuss: and messy.

On to Tone Pro, I'm hoping the new black is better than Black Legion for ease of use. And the White, hoping for good things from these two specifically.

For whites, I can definitely recommend pro acryl - my titanium bold white is back in action once I cleared the goop out from under the nozzle (only one it's happened to, dunno why) and their other offwhites like bright ivory, khaki, bright neutral grey etc are all excellent, as is coal black, it's the main thing I bought them for originally. That is a weakness of tone pro, their lightest grey seems to be blackstone void 4, which is only around administratum. When you do a lot of Contrast/speedpaint, those off-whites/light greys are very useful. Kinda surprised they don't have wraithbone/grey seer equivalents in tone pro given its strength for drybrushing.

They also just lost $480 million off their stock, so I wonder if another price increase is coming (not really the point of the thread, so I will leave it at that, except to point out paints are normally included which would make these even more expensive)

For a good white nothing really beats a good artist grade titanium white.  Liquitex Professional Soft Body Titanium White for example will work great for miniature painting and last you a lifetime.

Artist paints are generally excellent, as long as you skip the 'student' grade ones. Soft body do tend to be thicker relative to standard model paints, so they will generally need some thinning on the wet palette; the ones I've used have been about yogurt or ketchup. Fluid ones, depending on the range, can be more liquid. The pots can be a bit pricy as the smallest is usually 30ml or more, but the price per ml is excellent. I'm a fan of Golden High Flow Titan Buff for example - it's an airbrush paint that's a match for wraithbone. (airbrushed over colour forge desert sand primer, and a final white light drybrush is great for a warm zenithal pre-shade). And liquitex inks are outstanding for airbrushing.

Golden is excellent stuff. I have a few of their "regular" artist acrylics and they're fantastic. I like to use mine to mix into miniature paint blends to enrich colours. Friend of mine swears by the Soflat range for mini painting too.

Do we know how or why?

Was it the lack of new space marine lieutenant with the marine codex release?

Maybe that we have not gotten Codex: Primaris Lieutenant yet?

They had the black in my store when I did a trial paint, as long as you are doing 'something' after it OR want a very glossy finish it's a really nice black, covered clean and smooth over a mechanicum standard grey and stayed where I put it.

I was less impressed with the green and the red they had, but they were 2's and 3's not the base. I want to see what the browns, greys and flesh look like when I can see them in person.

It's because their market (share) is constantly shrinking despite growing revenue/profits.  That basically means they are milking their market dry and killing their future prospects for short term gain.  In other words, Warhammer is dying.

That holds true if the market is static. However, GW market to new entrants and arguably has a wider reach than the other makers with solid IPs.

It would be good to see the figures that back up this claim.

The share price is still higher than it was this time last year, even after the dip.

People have been predicting the death of GW for literal decades and almost always with the exact same talking points ('this time they priced too many people out' etc). People will still be confidently declaring 'THIS time they're FINISHED' right before they announce record profits in a years' time.

Unfortunately for online spaces, humans are not orks - they cannot will their collapse into happening by screaming WAAAGH!!! loud enough.
