Vogon
Hi, I'm wanting to paint up some Escher Cutters and would like to do a chrome finish on some of the panels. I have seen rattle cans that will do this sort of finish but do any of you good people know of a hobby paint I could apply with a brush? I'm UK based if that makes any difference to availability. Thanks. Vogon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388629-painting-chrome/ Share on other sites
kabaakaba
Iirc there is already discussion on that topic. There is scale modeling cans, bat they can't be varnished and finish itself ain't really durable so won't work well on tabletop. 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388629-painting-chrome/#findComment-6190435 Share on other sites
Vogon
I did try searching but couldn't find anything. I just put "chrome" in but nothing came up. Solution Evil Eye Posted October 4 Solution Share Posted October 4 Chrome is one of those things that's very hard to do for tabletop models as most of the really shiny ones are far too fragile to survive even gentle handling. THAT SAID, Molotow do a huge bottle of "permanent chrome paint" (not the refill tubes for their markers) which whilst not quite a mirror chrome, is certainly shiny enough to read as chrome at our scale. It's also decently durable and self-levels very well. 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388629-painting-chrome/#findComment-6190463 Share on other sites
kabaakaba
Also I would suggest to try NMM. It's ain't this hard(even me managed paint it with acceptable result) but a little time consuming. And it's gonna looks good with any light condition. 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388629-painting-chrome/#findComment-6190464 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
I would suggest getting a chrome marker and doing a test on some spare sprue or panels. 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388629-painting-chrome/#findComment-6190482 Share on other sites
space wolf
Molotow Chrome Refill. This works great, just understand that to clean your brush you will need to use isopropel alcohol as the product is alcohol based. Also keep in mind, it works best in a thick coat...thin coats wont work very well...and don't handle it too much or varnish it, or it will kill the shine. its great for helmet visors, or NMM highlights and stuff like that. @Evil Eye After having said all that above, just saw your post...I'll have to give that a shot! Vogon
Thank you all for your input I bought some of the Molotow chrome and gave it a try. I think it worked really well. I'm not sure the photo does it justice but it certainly gave the effect I was looking for.
