Kurgan the Lurker
Alright folks it is time for an all new painting contest here at the Bolter & Chainsword. We have done Rhinos, we have done Banners, we have done B&C Marines, General Heros and even a mini-army, so now it is back to basics. The theme for this new contest is DREADNAUGHTS!! The contest rules are fairly simple and straight forward this time, so please READ THEM CAREFULLY BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. Those who ask a question that is easily answered by reading the rules will be beaten with a wet-mackarel. :D THE RULES: 1. The dreadnaught cannot have been posted to the web or entered in any form of painting contest prior to this... wait until after the voting to post it to your websites, coolmini, or whatnot, then it should be fine. If we see something we recognize seeing before, we will disqualify it. The idea here is to add something new to your army folks. WIP shots having been posted are okay. Any kind of painted pictures anywhere on the web for any reason are whats not okay. 2. Conversions are okay as long as they are WYSIWYG and GAME LEGAL. This includes Forge World Dreads and Dread parts. 3. Basing: The dread CANNOT be on a base bigger than 60mm. No plinths or display bases please. We want folks to focus on the Dread. 4. The contest is Dreadnaught only. Entries may not contain any figures beyond those included in the box for the model. If it doesn't come in the box don't add it to your entry. No dioramas, duel scenes or the like will be accepted. 5. One Entry per Frater (as usual). 6. You can send up to 4 pictures totalling no larger than 500kb in size. What constitutes a game legal dread: It is in a Codex or IA article OR it has been in TROLL magazine (Tycho and Stern Pattern Dreads). So things that are legal for this contest are: Space Marine Dreadnaughts (sorry folks no Mortis Pattern as they are not "legal" yet). Chaos Space Marine Dreadnaughts. Penitent Engines (just need 1 not a squad). Barca Lounger of Doom (Throne of Judgement). Ephrael Stern or Tycho Pattern Dreads from TROLL Magazine. CONTEST TIMELINE: Start date: August 1st Final Submission Date: September 30th Voting Begins: October 1st Voting Ends: October 7th Winners announced: no later than October 10th SUBMITTING ENTRIES: You can email your pictures to: menshakhaine@hotmail.com You MUST include the following: 1. Your Username. 2. Your real name. 3. Your Board email (that is the email that is attached to your B&C account). 4. Subject header should read: B&C CONTEST ENTRY (if not my filters may toss in the trash without me ever seeing it). Pictures can be individual or in a .ZIP file. VOTING: You can email your votes to: menshakhaine@hotmail.com You MUST include the following: 1. Your 3 Favorite Dreads in no particular order. 2. Your Username. 3. Your real name. 4. Aurelius Rex
Ties in perfectly with the dread I was going to build for Games Day UK!
warsmith
Hey all. sounds like this will be barrel loads of fun to participate in, however for those of us in the uk who no longer have teh troll magazine I have a question. I read this in the original post by kurgan. my question is: whats a ephrael stern pattern and a tycho pattern dread? any info or pics appreciated. cheers Dan
Moridin
Awww man... I wish I could enter, but I have no money for paints and a Dread... :D Well, maybe next time... :D
Chronophague
Absolutely fantastic. Finally I have a reason to make a dread, either for my chaos or loyal marines. :) Cool. Even at the threat of getting that mackarel stuck to my head repeatedly by force, I have a question... :D 4. The contest is Dreadnaught only. Entries may not contain any figures beyond those included in the box for the model. If it doesn't come in the box don't add it to your entry. No dioramas, duel scenes or the like will be accepted. So I take it we are actually not allowed to put even a enemy head on the base? I will make mine as part of the army, and it would be a shame if I'd have to go back and put in some poor dead sod(or at least some body parts) on the base later... So for basing purposes, no outside parts at all? Not a falcon door, or rhino hatch partially buried. A yes/no answer is all I want to this question. :D Cheers
T14
good question Chrono. I am going be using a metal dread, and stepping on some lump or body part on the base is needed to give it the pose I am planning. Can we throw in a rock or body part on the base, pwease? :D
epsonmonkey
Alright, this time I'm going to enter the contest. :D

UltimaMouse
i wish we has cheaper contests like BUILD N PAINT YER OWN MARINE but.. nope these guys are heavy hitters... maybe i can make a lost and damned dreadnought out of chicken bones :D
Aurelius Rex
@ UMouse - The last contest was for a full 4-500 pt patrol force, this is just one dread - much cheaper! :D I enjoyed the 500 word fluff criteria for the last comp - sad to see that it won't be required this time. Kurgan the Lurker
For those asking about additional models being added: I will point to a key word in rule 4 before I begin to beat you senseless with a fish :D and then perhaps you will see the answer you seek. Note the area in bold: 4. The contest is Dreadnaught only. Entries may not contain any figures beyond those included in the box for the model. If it doesn't come in the box don't add it to your entry. No dioramas, duel scenes or the like will be accepted. A helmet wouldn't be a figure, nor would a door or a rock (I am gonna tray and squeeze templar14 into the same airlock with Bite the Dust for that one I think). A torso, body, guy crushed in the power claw of the dread, guy crawling on dread etc. etc. would be a figure. Bite the Dust: For the betterment of all I aught to push you out an airlock.... :D
mystlyfe
I know this question has been raised elsewhere, but I havnt seen an answer. Do defilers count as dreds? I know they arnt truly dreds, but their armor is virtually identical, and much of the model is very similar.
epsonmonkey
Um...no, I wouldn't think so. I mean, com'n, look how huge that model is. Do you really consider it a Dreadnought? Most likely not, I think that is why they call it a "Defiler", not a Dreadnought... :D
Kurgan the Lurker
Do you see Defiler listed in the what is okay? No.
Nicholas Wolfer
Sweet, I knew there was a reason why I kept that dread unfinished for a whole month!
Captain Seato
Do you see Defiler listed in the what is okay? No. Ooo! Ooo! Can we watch as he's beaten with a "wet-mackerel"?

Grand Master Tyrael
Just for a little clarification on something... It is in a Codex or IA article OR it has been in TROLL magazine (Tycho and Stern Pattern Dreads).I assume GK dreads are included, as they are in both the Daemonhunters Codex and IA 2, though they are not on the list. So things that are legal for this contest are:Space Marine Dreadnaughts (sorry folks no Mortis Pattern as they are not "legal" yet). Chaos Space Marine Dreadnaughts. Penitent Engines (just need 1 not a squad). Barca Lounger of Doom (Throne of Judgement). Ephrael Stern or Tycho Pattern Dreads from TROLL Magazine. And I know the Tycho pattern was the Furioso with the giant claws... I believe it was Brother-Captain Tycho before he was killed...
farenest
Awesome I can finally get my DeathGuard Dready done thanks for the motivation  woop! woop! woop!
Teufelskerl
So things that are legal for this contest are:Space Marine Dreadnaughts (sorry folks no Mortis Pattern as they are not "legal" yet). Actually, since Forge World began shipping the Imperial Armour 2 book on July 19th, shouldn't the Mortis pattern technically be legal? Not that it matters too much since the arms aren't available yet, and those who are good enough to kit-bash them will no doubt be spending their talents on other areas, but I thought I would point it out. Ephrael Stern or Tycho Pattern Dreads from TROLL Magazine. While I know the Tycho Pattern (and old favorite of mine), I don't think I've seen the Stern pattern. Has anyone made one that they can show or describe? Thanks! Frederich
Anacron
I'll assume a Space Wolf successor dread with twin lightning claw arms, a dead Chaos Marine underfoot and a live wolf (so to speak - plastic actually) alongside is not allowed. Might just enter it anyway and see what happens. Mahu
So no other "figures" on the base, but rubble is o.k.?

No one has said one way or the other if the rules for them are actually in IAv2 or not so we decided to keep em out. Anacron: http://www.duckblindminiatures.com/images/funstuff/mackarel.jpg Mahu: Someone has figured it out!!!
