Mahu
Here is a good question, what about a dred. from a not-yet-realeased Space Marine Codex, I plan on doing a Blood Raven's Venerable Dread. considering it will be in the new codex.
Chronophague
DIY chapters are allowed, why shouldn't a to come chapter be allowed. A pretty bad question IMHO.. CAn you think of ANY reason why it wouldn't be allowed, if chapters like the "Infernal chicken pox" are allowed? Cheers
Mahu
I was refering to a Ven. Dred. in a chapter that doesn't have access to them but will.
Kurgan the Lurker
Read the rules for the Ven Dread. Weapons wise it is the same as any other dread. It's special rules come in the form of things like "Old-n-Wise", Hard to Kill and Leader, so since you are still just modelling up a basic dread it is okay. Inquistor McLain
Can I still add banners and such or do I just have to keep it as a plain drednought. -Thanks
Kurgan the Lurker
Banner is fine. Dreads come with a banner pole even I believe.
SynapsyS
This is a question for Kurgan. I painted a dread for my death guard about 2 weeks ago. Before i read the Paintign contest thread, i posted some pics of it on the Death Guard.org forums. Since then, i have added things to it, like and ink wash, extra highlighting, PVA-wetness and other things amongst. Now, what i want to know is, do i qualify for the contest? I mean, its only about 2 weeks old, and i've done extra things to it since i took the photos. Cheers.
Chronophague
I doubt you can use it. Since the idea of the contest is that you make a new dread, not that you participate with one you already had, which is the case with you. I don't think a few inks a modifications will change anything.. Sorry. Cheers
SynapsyS
-_- ok, thats cool - i was just asking as it really is new, just not 'freshly painted 5 minutes ago' new.
Chronophague
In terms of legality of the contest, all you would've needed was a pic of it unpainted. But the point of the contest is to make people make new stuff, it's just bad luck if you happened to make one a week before. :( I'm not an authority, so I'd wait for a mod confirmation, but I do think I'm pretty close to the truth. -_- Cheers
Tiberious
Well I have started working on a dread for my DIY chapter and so far so good. No heavy converting or such, so I don't hope to win, but atleast I do get to show it off. -_-
Kurgan the Lurker
Actually we aren't asking for WIP shots in this one. But we are expecting folks to be honest enough to not have posted their Dread on the web before. So if you have a dread already painted then yes you can use it as long as its not already posting on your website, another board, in another online contest etc. etc.
abstract incendiaries
Would we banned from entering them in say GDUK, which will be saturating the internet with coverage when voting occurs? AI
Kurgan the Lurker
Problem with that is that we are trying to keep a semblence of anonymity to the entries AND we don't want something having won a Demon to be a determining factor in someones vote. So given that our contest rules says no prior contest entries or webpostings up thru the end of voting we would have to say NO to GDUK entries. Lazarus valghyran
Okay, Mortis Dreads ARE in the IA2. Top picture, dreadnought on the right. As it's now out on general release, does this alter the rulings that they aren't allowed? (the link is to the forgeworld website)
abstract incendiaries
As I thought, but worth a shot. AI (If its any help I won't do very well at all, so would never reacha stage where my name would be mentioned......)

Rune Priest Gribnoor
Im hreally looking forward to this, my ven dread I have has a crap paint job, and cause its metal im going to stripe it right back to the metal, green-stuff-convert the heel out of it then paint it again. I aint even going to entertain myslef with the idea of me even coming close to winning but it will get me off my ass and painting -_-
bighatdino
This is fortuitous, I'm currently working on my first ever dread right now. I had better get my slow-painting arse in gear ^_^
Daeothar
Okay, let's see if this qualifies as a fishy question... ^_^ In the last contest (40K in 40 mins), I entered, but didn't get very far. Now, I'll be the first to admit other entries were better than mine, but part of the reason I believe was the abominable quality of my pictures. I only have a 2.1 Megapixel cam and the quality of pics at the size indicated will make my entries again look like coloured blobs in a fuzzy background. If, however, the pics are at a decent size, say 1Mb, the minis come out a lot better. Actually, Mackarel Slinger Commander Y remarked so himself, after I posted better pics after the contest. so here it comes; since this contest is about painting and not about photo/camera quality, can we provide links to URLs with larger pics on them instead of 4 pics of a maximum cumulative size of 500Kb? I'm sure the size limitation is only there to keep the amount of server space in check anyway... Oh, and Kurgs; Sorry but I cannot accept a complaint on the amount of time given to paint a dread as a valid complaint for this contest. You guys have more than 8 weeks to paint up the dread for this contest. More than enough time for even the slowest painter on the board (SCC) I fear you must have been talking about me there as I don't even do split schemes and still can't finish a single mini in months... :o
Kurgan the Lurker
Providing links wouldn't make your entry very anonymous now would it. Considering most websites don't post pictures of minis over 60k, 100k pictures are more than sufficient.
Chronophague
I think you should ask if any mod would be willing to reduce the size in photoshop for you, and at the same time give the pic a autolevels treatment. If it's okay with the mods, I can do it for you. I think I can keep myself unbiased enough when voting even if I've seen your entry... Just a thought. Since there should really be no difference in quality if the pic is reduced in size properly. Everyones dreads will be the same size if they are on a frame that is say 800x600 ^_^ Cheers
Daeothar
^_^ Thanks Chrono, but no thanks. I just checked with a friend of mine who's a photographer and he's more than willing to let me use his camera (which costs more than my first car :o ). The main problem was the fact that at 60kb a pic in the last contest and one pic per unit, my camera wasn't up to the task; the unit pics were just inadequate. Now, they can be larger anyway and this camera has an actual macro setting :o so I should be fine... Oh, and Kurgan, I hadn't even considered that. Just goes to show I'm still capable of astonishing feats of naivity at times... :D
VAVOSAS
Wow. I'm thinking a lot of people didn't read the RULES of the contest... and my mother always said I was psychic...being the 7th son of a 7th son etc ... Just call it a hunch, but when the moderator lists RULES for the contest in BOLD huge font, then maybe , just maybe, he wants you to read them. Doesn't take Columbo to figure that one out. Dread... plus conversion bitz No dead stuff on base...just rocks and grass and scenery...no corpses, etc... Why you might ask ? Because it's a Dread contest, not a "decorated base" contest. Please for the love of all that's holy (and unholy in chaos-lover's cases) read the previous people's posts...they just about cover all the dumb questions which should have never been written... you might find your's in there repeated several times !
