+++CHAPTER NAME Legio Infernus

+++CHAPTER MASTER Avus Bellator, Commander

+++CHAPTER GENESEED Mortificators

+++HOMEWORLD

Hades IV:

The homeworld of the Legio Infernus is Hades IV, a remote planet where most of the natives work with the mining of rare metals and stones used in construction of Imperial space craft.

The planet is mostly covered in shadowy forests and wastelands, and the areas manipulated by human hands are few and far apart. The mining colonies are self supporting and have little contact with eachother.

The Legio Infernus rule Hades IV, but with few exceptions leave its natives to their own business.

+++COMBAT DOCTRINE

The Legio Infernus conducts its campaigns in much the same way as any other well trained Space Marine Chapter. The exception is that they place a greater emphasis on terror tactics to brake their enemies morale.

The Chapter uses Dreadnoughts as front line morale destroyers, so their objectives are usually to close with the enemy and cause havoc in their lines.

The Legio Infernus makes extensive use of flame weapons which have a large psychological effect on the enemy.

Ok, cool. How does one find out about things like that?

The only thing I have ever read about the Mortificators was in one of the Uriel Ventris novels..

I originally wanted to call the boys Legio Mortis, but I guess thats the Legion of the damned right?  :huh:

Yep. In Warriors of Ultramar it is stated that the Mortifactors are "fellow sons of Guilliman," i.e., share the same primarch. Same primarch = same geneseed.

Legio Mortis are a traitor Titan Legion. That may be what you are thinking of. :)

Legio Infernus also sounds like a titan legion but I can't but my finger on the reference at the moment... :huh:

I like the idea of them being Mrotifactor successors from the Guilliman geneseed line.

Link to a handy post on just this subject. The rest of the Chapter Creation thread is worth a read too. :)

Haha, yeah, I knew I recognised that name from somewhere. :(

So the Mortificators are the ones who got the Legio Infernus started, but the geneseed is still Ultramarines, sounds good.

How old would you say it is reasonable for a successor of a successor chapter to be? I mean, just how much history could one write up for them whithout it becoming... silly...?

My chapter are also ultramarine gene stock but trained by the Mortificators. You can write as much history as its possible to fit into their existance. If they are 26th founding, they arnt really going to have done as much as a 3rd founding chapter, they just dont have the time.

As long as you dont make them a carbon copy of the successor chapter, it wont look silly. My chapter took the mortificators obsession with death, turned it into a punishment for failing and turned to chaos :unsure: So anything can happen :(

after a few generations of marines the chapter would probably forget about who trained them, but still remember where the gene seed came from.

True, but if that chapter had some divergent views on warfare or beliefs (such as the Mortificators) it would having a lasting effect on the chapter. Yes, they might no remember who taught them, but they will remember the lesson.

I wasn't saying they would forget the teaching as that would be passed down through the chapter, but for all intents and purposes they would see themselves as a 1st founding chapter successor.

But lets try and get this back on topic. The fluff so far is good if a little sparse. I like the idea of a terror chapter even if the nightlords do already use it. Good work, now add to it.

EDIT: As to the post below, the successor chapter whos geneseed they use would be the same as the 1st founding chapter, so the successor of the successor would effectively have geneseed which originated in a first founding chapter. It is in GW fluff that chapters see themselves as 1st founding chapters, and until GW writes something about it this entire successor of a successor idea will remain a fan fiction of sorts. Well thought out and argued fan fiction, I grant you, but fan fiction none the less.

you can be a successor of a successor. the tech priests scan all the gene-seed tithes until they find that one "perfect set" of zygotes and then they use one set of gene-seed to found an entire chapter. no where in GW fluff does it say that only the gene-seed of the first founding chapters is used for this as far as i know. but the only thing is that a chapter always seems to trace its history to the primarch from which their gene-seed is derived.

but his chapter could divergent in that manner, maybe they only go as far as the mortifactor's first chapter master. or maybe they are young upstarts who rebel against the long standing traditions of space marines and they place more importance on the here and now instead of long dead heros whom they've never even known except from horriblely distorted legends handed down over the years. that could make for an interesting chapter history. 26th founding, trained by mortifactors but their new recruits don't take well to the cult of death thing? or maybe they put a new spin on it. perhaps they believe in an after life like hades where you just amble around all bored for eternity, or even no after-life at all, so they must make the most out of the time they have? so if they don't really believe in the here-after or souls, they don't really care too much for worshipping their ancestors like most chapters and they see gene-seed more like a tool than a holy representation of their primarch. so they just call themselves a second founding of the mortifactors, since they trained them.
