jimmythemoose
After a lot of procrastinating (yay, I learnt a big word!), I finally decided to re-do my DIY chapter. So, errm yeah, here it is: CHAPTER NAME: The Angelic Scythes procrastinating FOUNDING: 8th CHAPTER MASTER: Horatio Patrocles CHAPTER GENESEED: Unknown HOMEWORLD: Helonia Origins There are hardly any records concerning the founding of the Angelic Scythes, and the secretive nature of the chapter has made it nearly impossible to ascertain exactly which gene-seed the chapter was created from. The only known information about the chapters founding comes from the document below, which is mysteriously damaged beyond repair in sections. +++Clearance0056++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Adeptus Mechanicus records of the creation of the Angelic Scythes Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. ====================================================== Upon the command of [FRAGMENT MISSING] most glorious high lords of terra, a new founding of [FRAGMENT MISSING], the 8th that has so far been undertaken. I have been given responsibility of overseeing the creation of chapter 857, and I am greatly honoured by the responsibility. Out of all the available [FRAGMENT MISSING] angels, imperial fists, raven guard, [FRAGMENT MISSING] the chosen gene stock of [FRAGMENT MISSING]. At the time of writing enough geneseed has been reared to officially start the creation of new marines. All candidates have so far shown extraordinary muscle growth after implantation and combined with [FRAGMENT MISSING] this will doubtlessly be a chapter which excels in close combat. ====================================================== ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The record goes on to describe the training and recruiting of new marines, and the chapters home world of Helonia is mentioned several times. Ferrata
Printed off, be reading it tonight sometime ;) Couple of grammer mistakes, but thats not really important all the time ;) They seem to live too long, unless they are Blood Angels successors, then how did they remove the Black Rage? Seeing the Emperor as a God is not usual Marine ideology, so is this on purpose or a mistake? Bar that, looks good :D Ferrata Edited June 14, 2005 by Ferrata Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/77168-angelic-scythes/#findComment-887530 Share on other sites
jimmythemoose
I wanted them to be quite zealous, and since they don't know who their primarch is the emperor gets all the worship. They see him as their creator and have therefore turned him into a godlike figure. As for the age thing, they just live long as a result of a natural mutation of the geneseed. It does kind of hint towards them being BA successors but they're not, I just wanted them to live long. Ferrata
I just wanted them to live long. Lol, :D , plot flange I wanted them to be quite zealous, and since they don't know who their primarch is the emperor gets all the worship. They see him as their creator and have therefore turned him into a godlike figure. I would say they seem him as a great warrior and a bringer of death, but not a god. Kastellan Kong
That was great! And unlike Ferrata I liked that they live longer... thought it was a nice touch... I mean if a chapter has to have a mutation why not age? Also it keeps people guessing what geneseed thet actually hail from... But since you answered the question about if they are BA I can rule them out of the equation. What I am trying to say is, that if the origin of their geneseed is unknown then keep it that way. ;) But there is one other thing that I too thought you might reconsider and that was that they see the emperor as a god... the last marines who saw the emperor like that were the Word Bearers and... well... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/77168-angelic-scythes/#findComment-888009 Share on other sites
Aurelius Rex
Good article, well thought out as I expected it to be, JTM. ;) I will get back to you with some more thoughts later, but it is odd that the majority of geneseed mutations in DIY chapters make the marine better in some way. There is no reason for them not to be longer lived, but it might be satisfying to have a balancing side-effect, because otherwise everyone would be doing it, ;) and also it is far more interesting to see how people deal with their disadvantages than their advantages. the obsession with death is an interesting idea, and could do with some follow-up. A long lived chapter might be expected to feel invulnerable, not fear death. Is there some other psychology at work, which would be really interesting to explore further? I went the other way and have my Scions of Dorn actually really short-lived, maximum 250 years outside a dread, so those that are interred are truly Honoured. This is why by dreads are called Honoured Valerius, Honoured Actinicus, Honoured Phyrrus etc. It is not linked to geneseed according to the AM and Apothacarion, but it is something that I have not seen anyone else do... On second thoughts, you stick with the long life mutation, Jimmy, so I can keep my chapter unique! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/77168-angelic-scythes/#findComment-888207 Share on other sites
jimmythemoose
Yep, I was going for the ironic pshychological side affect that even though they live so long they believe life to be almost irrelevant and merely a type of test, so they don't really value their lifespan that much. Some of the oldest marines actually feel that life has nothing left to offer them and start seeking an honourable death in battle, volounteering for the most suicidal missions etc. As for the God thing I think I will change it. I just want to show that they worship the emperor as both the leader of the imperium and a kind of primarch stand in. Other chapters may believe they join their primarch when they die, but the scythes believe they join the emperor.
