Pete Haines Iron Warrior Q&A

Warsmiths...

The Iron Warriors are now firmly established in the annals of 40K as a fighting force but is there anything you've ever wondered about them???

Pete Haines of GW Games Dev.. has graciously agreed to answer any question you might have on the Iron Warriors. He's also having a word with Graham McNeill to get involved too. So if there's anything you wish to ask Graham perhaps about the Honsou character or the Iron Warriors nows the time.

I'm preparing a Q&A for Pete & Graham based on Iron Warriors - if you've a question about what's the next codex or changes to the 40K rules don't post them this is not what this Q&A is about...

So if you a question on Iron Warrior background, Iron Warrior rules, the future for the Legion, new models etc.. please feel free to post.

If you can post your questions on here or directly email them to me at philbrad@blueyonder.co.uk and I'll start compiling the list for submission.

Hi Phil,

Did you post this to our IW list as well? I must have missed it.... Anyhoo...

Geez, things I've wondered about for IW in general:

1- The first novel, and even the second novel (involving IW) to a large degree, indicate an almost flirtatious relationship with Khorne, is there any chance we'll see this reflected in the rules (again)? (last time it was Berzerkers).

2- Forrix is the man. It was left open to interpretation on his actual death. We know he has a hate on for the half-breed. Is there ANY chance we'll see him come back? Whether in fiction or gameplay? (I'd love to see him come back, I think I liked him better than Honsou).

3- I don't know what the sales numbers are for books involving Iron Warriors, but is there any chance they merit getting a series of novels of their own?

4- A lof people fear the opponent who pulls out Iron Warriors at a tournament. The advantages they carry are very obvious. After many years I've put them away because of this. What's your thought on using them as an army? Where do you believe they fit in as far as strengths and weaknesses? And further to that, is there anything you regret/wish you could change as far as their current rule set is concerned?

If Iron warriors are siege specialists then how come we only ever see ten of them at a time on the table top? Arn't sieges long and grueling requiring thousands of men?

We're coming to get you HOHENHEIM

Thanks for the questions so far.

PROT - How ya keeping dood been quiet for a while eh :) ... Should be on the IW list I've mailed it out to the IW list, 40K IV group and its going out to Chaos 40K list tonight. Also posted it on the IW forums too.

With the introduction of the Siege variant Dreads from Forgeworld I'm wondering if we're getting 40K Siege rules???

Brother in Iron - keep those questions a coming ....

;)

Hi again Phil,

Yes I've been quiet, but still quite active. I miss my IW and now that I just finished 2nd in a tournament with my Death Guard, I'm retiring them.... so, I may pull them out again. Especially since there are so many strong choices out there now.

Sorry back to the issue at hand....

For Greame McNeil

1: When are his 2 new book coming out??? about Iron Warrior of course.

2: I thought he was going to let me win best painted army that the Scottish Conflict... I want my money back. To remind him tell him, it the IW army with the Ultramarine crusifed on the Pred, he told me I would win

3: Damn him ;)

For Pete:

1: What happen to the Bezerker, if we where allowed them still, I would alway take them, best CC squad in my view. Still be 0-1 of course.

2: It said in the preview of Codex Chaos, IW where missing from the gathering for the crusade. Was this to do with Storm of Iron book (as in event in that).

3: When is there going to be fluff on the IW about them dueing the Eye of Terror campinge

4: When will we get to see his army again full painted in the WD, just last time we seen them there only undercaoted.

5: Will he enter a Grand Tournament him self.

Also for ether of them for model wise:

1: What new models are coming out for IW's???

2: also have the Half Breed as a specil charitor (sp) for IW's

3: Will IW get a Vind kit with all chaos stuff in them (plastic)

4: will there be a plasitc legion spure

5: Will there be a plastic Lord/Warsmith like the Space Marine captain

6: Will there be Plastic Daemon Prince

That should do for the time being

I've got a few questions.

Will Iron Warriors have a Traits and Doctrine system that we've been recently seeing in some of the newer codexies?

Will Iron Warriors be allowed new vehicles such as a Griffon or a Leman Russ?

Will the new Iron Warriors see new or special weapons for being renown siege specialists?

Will Iron Warriors be allowed a Khornate mark as in their history with Khorne?

What will be restricted if anything additional from the previous codex to the Iron Warriors?

Short on time I'll post more if I think of any with meaning or arent already covered in other posts.

Thanks, would love to see these answered. Question for you. Will you post the Q&A on B&C?

eee... Phil could you post it on the 4th co site as well.

Again ask Greame McNeil why my army was not the winner for best painted, he promise me

But yes as said I would like Bezerker back & anything else I said.

No problem

Again ask Greame McNeil why my army was not the winner for best painted, he promise me

ugh...ugh... come on it was nicely painted and all, but a winner???

he probably was too busy with writing down my full name for the autograph in storm of iron.

My main question is the same as the others... the whole thing about berserkers

and are they planning on creating more special characters or more of a chapter specific armory?

cheers ;)

We're coming to get you HOHENHEIM

Hey, I'm the nightlords player not you. Stick to your own war cries. Just because Iron Hands stole yours odn't mean you can have ours. Don't make me call the bogeyman to ocome live under your bed...

It's not really iron warriors related but lets ask it any way. Rumours say the new codexs will use trait systems to make up clans/chapters/legions/craftworlds. Is it true?

And to follow it : Will they fix the legions army playing styles which don't match the fluff? (Nightlords related, but it bugs me, I demand cheaper visage for all!)

Whatever  There are far worse things than 'bogeymen' living under my bed I've heard them...

What about the Vet skills? Didn't Codex: Chaos pioneer the skill/traits/doctorines system? So chaos players already have their own 'flavour' of traits. If you look at them relally hard you'll see the a number of the loyalist ones are exactly the sames in game terms. Plus a revision to codex Chaos is I expect a LONG way off as the current one is one 2 years old.

Not an IW related question I'm afraid ... ;)

The second one is. Iron warriors armies are NEVER seiege like. 9 oblits and 4 tanks, 10 marines and a Daemon prince is now a siege force? :P

It does relate.. :P

That's a pecularity of the IW and many other Choas armies, IW are not the only army prone to min/maxxing so please keep the cries of cheese/beardiness to a miminum this is totally off thread. I'm happy to field questions on the IW - strangely as per the title and focus of this thread. You can cease trying with the 'baiting' posts - I'm not going to bite.

The questions on traits/skills/doctorines is sort of generic and not really IW based. I think the system is now pretty much established as the method of cutomising a 40K force. Some armies it doesn't suit, Tyranids is one but that list devised to allow several army variants which is very cool. But I can see it appearing with Ork to allow customing of Clan style armies and similalr with Craftworld Eldar.

Rumours say Orks clans will be that way. It makes sense to me.

And it wasn't a bait post, trust me I don't bait, I'd kick someone in the nuts before I laid bait (I'm imfamous for my downright hate of cheesey lists and dislike of iron warriors in general which seem to go with them lists in general).

I'd just like to know if they are going to try and "fix" the anti fluff armies we see in iron warriors case. It's really rather silly.

Point taken, min/maxing is not one of my personal favourites either but don't just single out IW. Every race has an option for the player to field the maximum uber units and the minimum core units. You don't like IW fair enough, you've read the criteria for questions, all I want is constructive feedback within the criteria. The criteria is specifically IRON WARRIOR, if the amount of questions I have allows me to field more generic Chaos army questions I will. What you percieve to be 'broken' is something the rest of us don't agree is. This same thread has been posted on several Chaos lists/forums and B&C is the only one where I seem to be getting what I percieve as OT comments to my request.

There are numerous cases of 'anti fluff' armylists in every race. As long as the list is legal try to counter its apparent 'cheesiness' with skill, tactical awareness and strategy. Too many people cry 'cheese' at the sight of such min/max armies without thinking how they can beat such an army, no 40k army is unbeatable, some are hard beat I grant. Next time you see a min/max army on the games table in front of you think about how beat your opponent with clever tactics and skill. Adapt, improvise overcome.

Subject closed.

I hate those 10 man armies as well, but if your looking for fluff IWs have used 10 man armies plenty of times. Especially pre-heresy, it was one of our reasons for breaking off. 10 IW marines w/ plenty of ammo was known for holding out against about anything.

The second one is. Iron warriors armies are NEVER seiege like. 9 oblits and 4 tanks, 10 marines and a Daemon prince is now a siege force?

Who uses that list? Out of the 400 members on the 4th GC I've seen 2 people use something close to that, thats about 0.5%. There is also nothing wronge with IWs using lots of tanks, they were apart of the largest completely armored battle in 40k fluff ;) .

For questions..

Will we be seeing more IW fluff?

And it's already been said but can the 30pt Servo Arm please be dropped in price or made better. 30pts wouldn't be bad if it could fix something on a 4+, but as it is now you are better off buying your PF wielding champion mutation for an extra attack and then putting parasitic possession on any tank. It's the same cost and works a whole lot better -_- .
