Zorianarki Posted July 21, 2005 Share Posted July 21, 2005 So I've been painting my friends models and making scenery for them for quite some years, I'm really into making scenery with whatever bits and odd ends I can get my hands on :cuss And I figured I'd try the game myself and well.. I'm hooked. So I want to make my own chapter since I cannot accept being restricted in my color choice :) and I somply love the whole Black Rage thing, so I set about making my own successor chapter to the Blood Angels. I want it to seem somewhat plausible so no lost in the warp, no secret 21'st primarch and no mysterious inquisition type creating the chapter in his backyard lab for evil purposes. It's simply a successor chapter to the blood angels who lost most of their archives in a massive uprising on their homeplanet due to the black rage taking too hefty a toll on the population. This offcourse ended in a massive slaughter of most of the population since I'd have a hard time making anyone believe that a whole spacemarine chapter couldn't beat the planetary defence force and all the civillians of a single planet :) I'm writing all the fluff novels and stuff to make the story and to do it like a codex book, have scanned pages and cleaned them up to make my own codex when I'm done. But for now I wanted to check with all you people (who seem mighty friendly, hence the choice of board) if the fluff reasons for the special rules the BA's have are any good or just craptasticly crappy.. since, if they are, I*d like to know what is so craptastic about them so that I can do something about it. As a foreword It's a good thing to know that after the uprising that triggered the massacre on their homeworld they changed the name of the chapter and induced a very strict religious belief to keep the black rage under control. Because of that only a few know the true nature of the black rage and the rest know the story that I'll now copy paste to you all from my purdy lil' word document here. ---------------SPECIAL RULES FLUFF SO FAR------------------------ THE ANGELS PRECOR Driven to the brink of destruction by their fall to the black rage leading to the uprising on their home world, destroying their fortress monastery and all of their archives the once proud successor chapter of the Blood Angels, known as the Imperial Claw, changed their name to the Angels Precor, symbolising their eternal struggle to make up for the horrible destruction of their whole planet and the slaying of billions of civilians following the uprising. They live in a very strict religious society where the only true purpose in life is to die after a long life filled with selfless accomplishments. It captures the Blood Angels nobility along with their struggle with the Black Rage, which ties them to their parent Chapter without making them Blood Angels who happen to paint themselves in different heraldry. Really like the name, and the parts about the Chosen and the "Only in War Can We Find Redemption" pieces are especially good. Do you plan on fielding them under the BA rules when they receive a new codex or using the traits system? That could have a major impact on the way your army plays on the tabletop as well as in their fluff. Zorianarki Posted July 21, 2005 Author Share Posted July 21, 2005 I plan on playing them after the BA rules since they are a BA successor chapter and I want them to be just that, only they don't know the whole story about sanguinius and stuff so they have a whole bunch of religios rules to explain why things happen. sort of like how in medieval times whenever something strange went on we either called it a witch and burned it or called it divine and put more money in the church box, instead of actually trying to figure it out :cuss (Like many others I guess I'm a bit tired of backyard inquisition foundings and such) And yeh.. I'll update with more fluff as i go, and I had no idea about a new BA codex coming? CimSaint Posted July 21, 2005 Share Posted July 21, 2005 I would be very surprised if they altered too much of the Blood Angels Codex. My bet is that it will be filled with much the same rules but with a lot more fluff. Maybe check out the Blood Angels forum; if I know this board, they'll have a thread about rumors covering the upcoming Codex. There's no definate release date yet, and it will be a long way off, so don't sweat that too much. The fluff has laid a very good foundation, and I think it supports the kind of feel you're trying to give the army. The different take on the BA special rules is an interesting take on the normal BA format. Could you clarify if they know they are Blood Angels successors? Losing all their history would obscure this, but if the chosen get visions of Sanguinius and Horus then the chapter would eventually work it out... If you intend to obscure their heritage, then perhaps the chosen get the images, but they are fractured and indescribable... If you intend to obscure their heritage, then perhaps the chosen get the images, but they are fractured and indescribable...They don't know their heritage, They believe that the visions are there because the sacrifice of sanguinius is, not just by the blood angels, seen as one of the most selfless acts, or, one of the acts that symbolises selflessness incarnate. And it is the emperors way of telling them that they have proven themselves and that he is awaiting them in the afterlife. Maybe a few of the old old people in the chapter knows about their heritage but have choosen to keep this a secret because they see their religious society as the only way they can keep the black rage in check. On a side note I just ordered a stack of classic assault arm sprues so that I can use the classic bolt pistols for the chosen :cuss seeing that they get ceremonial weapons i figure that classic bolt pistols would be good. Theming this around the BA special rules, with each characteristic part being explained in a slightly skew way would be a big job, but could lead to something truly unique and something to be proud of. Yeh.. something to be proud of :) that's what I'm going for indeed.. I'm also digging through the old angels of death codex (big one with DC chaplain on front) to get all the fluff and change it into my chapter :) I'll be sure to post when I get some models finished and painted.. You mentioned that you wanted to go DIY because you didn't want to be restricted in your color choice. Any further thoughts along those lines or what you want to do for a symbol? If not, did your chapter cover it up? What do the people on your chapter's homeworld (if there are any left) now think of your chapter? What do the people on your chapter's homeworld (if there are any left) now think of your chapter?I'm thinking that a small part.. 70-90 marines (including commanders, apothecaries, chaplains and so on) was off on some mission.. battling the evil orks or whatever.. that'll have to be fluffed out later... and the big part of the chapter slowly. but faster and faster let themselves slip into the black rage, then when the uprising began they declared it a heretic uprising (And i Imagine that the imperium wouldn't really mind a space marine chapter dealing with an uprising on it''s own planet by it self) and when the fleet returned they saw what had happened and bombarded the crap out of the rest of the marines left on the planet (since they had all subcome to the black rage) and then made up this whole religious society to keep it from ever happening again (e.g. cover it up) I think the planet is more or less dead.. maybe theres a place for some nice fluff on life returning to the planet andthe small tribe-like societies trying o make the world a better place again while being guarded by a "new chapter" who seem to be angels compared to the "old chapter" that ruled the planet. Any further thoughts along those lines or what you want to do for a symbol? Actually I'm trying to read enough fluff to figure whether it'd be plausible that they sought out help and guidance from either the eclessary (can't remember the word.. the imperial religious cult thing) or maybe the inquisition or witchhunters.. probably the witch hunters since they are there to watch over dangers from within.. and maybe have the witch hunters sort of take advantage of the humbleness of the left over marines, thereby creating a fiercly religious chapter that are more or less at the whim of the ordo hereticus.. but I haven't thought so much about it.. One thing I do know is that all the inconography and imagery of the chapter is gonna be higly religious... inspired mainly by the more fictional version of od school christianity with priests fighting hordes of deamons with only their faith and so on and so forth :rolleyes: st. george and the dragon (if that was his name) :P I'm thinking many models wielding banners for CCW and lots of books, chains and so on.. also all the vehicles will have to be converted a lot to become vassals of his justice .. or something like that :D As to the badge itself.. hmm.. have to ponder that some more.. perhaps something ordo hereticus inspired :) Also it'd be a good way to add character to have some sort of witch hunter character (a low lvl HQ choice) allways go with the army, evn tho it might be stupid power-gaming wise.. it'd be nice fluff-wise..
