as a fellow 15 year old, i say...

-ing great model mate!!! :tu:

i love it

but i'd like to know...

could you give me [or the entire board as a collective whole] a parts list?

i've no idea where those legs are from!?! ^_^

anywhooo, thanks for sharing Reclusiarch Erithmelius with us, and i can't wait to see it finished!

N.S.

Excellent work V! I dare say this is the best piece I've seen out of you. The red armor turned out fabulous. The highlights are a bit too subtle for my tastes but never-the-less looks great. That gold work is absolutely awesome. I don't particularly like the base however. But hey, this isn't CMON so the mini itself rates a 9 as far as I'm concerned.

It's obvious to me that you're improving quite a bit judging from the first stuff of yours I've seen. Which is saying alot since I was quite impressed even then. You're a talented artist to say the least and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Well The Journey for this Mini has come to its end, well painting wise His journey is still far away (38 DAYS :P)

But Here is Reclusiarch Erithmelius, in all his shinning glory to the Blood Ravens 3rd Company.

You guys might be wondering whats under his bone shoulder pad. Well its the same design and symbol that my first Blood Raven had (Geaus), which is half the blood raven symbol and two chinese runes: Sky and Knowledge.

Picture of Geaus's shoulder pad for reference

Just need some moss detailing on the base and he'll be read.

Anyways Enjoy and I hope you guys love this model as much as I do man..what a journey.

Very nice! You've certainly come a long way in the last year and a half. You showed promise then, now you show results! Glad to see you went for a bluish-black hilight on the fist instead of dull grey. Your model seems very ''in-style'' with what the judge is going for this year. Though blurry a bit the base looks much better, I say add a little moss on top of the rock. The shading on the skull's forehead could be a little smoother. The red is most excellent. Will it win a Demon? That all depends on the competition and the judge's mood... But that's a first cut for sure.

Boltman

First off this is a really solid mini. The blending on the reds and golds are executed very well.

I agree with Boltman though on the blending on the skull. Perhaps you could even it out a bit with some thin glazing.

Since you are going for GD quality I would suggest just a couple of things that stand out to me. 1) I think you could really make the runes pop by adding a superfine light green or even yellow middle to them. Think making them more mystical than just regular markings. If that makes sense. 2) The blending work on the models right arm shoulder pad looks a bit rushed. With a model of this quality overall that weak spot really seems to draw attention to me.

All said though, this is a really nice job, and has a very good chance (IMO) of making first cut. Take a couple days off from it (since you have plenty of time) and then revisit it to see any mistakes you might have overlooked or things you could add to push it over the top. I find it's usually a good idea to take a break from a mini you've been working on for awhile to refocus your attention on it. Good luck.

Hmph. Enough said! And I actually agree to the comments made by Boltman and MAU.

Hmm...The skull I can see your point guys, I'm actually very unconfident on it as well...Any Suggestions in smooth the transitions?

and for the runes shall I add a yellow (Most likely Bad mood yellow) to only the edges to make them "pop" and more mystical?

Anyways Thanks alot for the commenting and I hope I can make it!

hey vtraxx,

the whole thing looks great, but i really liked the crozius handle better as grey marble, and i most definetly think the skull was 200% better in the intial stages before the green. the blends were smoother, the feel was darker and more sinister, now its kinda comicy. the skull looked extrememely realistic before and now it... doesnt. other than that though, sick mini good job

Hey Dude, sorry I did not answer your IM on MSN. (massive amounts of overtime). The model is outstanding. I can say so, because I have seen it from conception to this point.

I will not rehash what Vincent said, so I would suggest follow his advice and you are golden. As for it being a winning model, if the competition will be anything like Atlanta or LA, then that is a superior Slayer winning piece. So I suggest the competition step it up a notch.

I have decided to not enter any GD this year, and I will focus on Kublacon. I will be going against my mentor, Laszlo, as well as Jeff Freeman and Marike (a Crocodile Games studio painter). So this competition means more to me.

Anyhoo, sorry for not getting back to you sooner Kid. Outstanding mini.

I beg to differ Commander Sha'son... I don't want to divert this thread, but I was in LA and the entries were phenomenal. You just can't judge the entries by the models that were picked top three. GW US just has a different approach to GD than Europe does. The minis that won were great, I'm jsut saying for some obscure reasons the judge preferred these to other models. And there was a lot of controversy with the judging. Just goes to show that you can'T judge a Golden Demon competition by pictures of it's winners (models look better in real, etc.

Now, V, For the runes on the skull and everywhere, pull up a picture of Hellbalde (my khorne dread) and check the khorne symbol on top near the head Glowing Khorne symbol. Notice the light source comes from inside, in the middle of each branch? To keep your runes green, take bilious green, or scorpion green, and add a little white to get a very pale color. Dilute generously and apply a super fine line in the middle of each freehand branch. If it dries out without showing much change, then perfect you diluted just right. Applya gain, and again, and you will get a finer pale hue coming from the mifddle of the rune, which should blen with the contour of the runes, giving you a glowing effect.

For the skull, it just seems that the forehead is too drastically changing from black to white. Perhaps a trip in the dark brown shades (tying in with the red of teh armor) would help. Make a more gradual transition, as now it's going pretty drastically from white to black. There's nothing like taking a spare skull and practicing the effect on it before you add layers of paint to your model. That's why most my major pieces have a test model (Khorne Champion was test for dreadnought).

you have a big asset: you have plenty of time still. Use it wisely, improve, post pics, we'll all pitch in to help you improve. And take a few days off, come back and inspect for mistakes as Machines Are Us suggested, after a while staring at a model you won'T see the big paint mark right in front of you. And once you improve that skull, we'll see about scoring extra brownie points with the judges by adding a few more things, such as freehand.

Boltman

Speechless. I am very very glad I have the support of the B&C guys, litterally thanks alot. Boltman your advice has given me more confidence actually. Hmm I'll probably get back to the chaplain on saturday since I have a ton of assignments for high school due.. <_<

Anyways Thanks alot guys.

V, Boltmans advice is good for all of us! This thread has alot of good advice. Sorry about the aim thing, I switched to the laptop to install Firefox. I have to many points of Black Templars to paint before this summer! lol, mainly for the campaign but also for the Grand Tournament! lol. V I need to talk to you about my entries! lol.

Peace bro, keep up the good work, and good luck in school. I failed outta spanish! lol.

aj.

all i am saying is that last year and the year before, there were much stronger minis out there. I can think of one painter in particular who made an outstanding showing in the past couple of years who decided not to show up with his A game this year. This is a painter who inspired many and many aspired to be like this painter. Myself included tried to incorporate alot of his stylings into my own. But that is just my opinion. But maybe he will show up at some point this year. But I am not a daemon or a sword winner, so what do I know.

on to Vic, sure you have alot of time still, but remember you can over work a mini. Have someone else look at it, and inspect it. Let them point out the flaws and hi points. It can be beneficial. Just remember, have fun. Try think about it too much.
