'In nomine Sanguis'

Recommended Posts

Well, well, well... what to say, really? I'm back, we're all back :) .

It's been a while and to show you that i have not been idle, i come to you with some of my latest artwork. I have developed a liking for the primarchs, and i'm at the moment illustrating them one by one. One of the first was Sanguinius, and here you have it for your (i hope) viewing pleasure.

C&C are most welcome... i've been itching to say that again here ^_^ .

Until soon

Im betting he used Photoshop to colour it. (Still trying to get that hang of that program myself.)

great pic. Much better then I could probably do (although i do think of myself as a fairly basic artist for drawings and paintings.).

Mind if I use a copy of your art for my MSN display pic?

Hey brothers...

Thanks for the fast and enthusiastic replies! It's good to be back... I'll answer some questions that have arisen...

The upper arms and lower torso have a rather odd design, is there a reason for this (other than coolness)?

Actually Tubal, the main reason for the design is coolness ;) . That, and the fact that i was trying to get as far as possible from other renditions of Sanguinius, while capturing his essence, so to speak. I always go for originality, and i'm glad you are noticing that.

How'd you colour it?

Thanks for the kind words, brothers! I painted this piece (as well as all my other art) with a mix between coloured pencils and special artistic markers. Some effects, such as the glows, and the stars are done with acrylic and oil pastels. It's flattering that you think it's a digital work, because that proves my theory that traditional art can beat machines any time :P . Oh, and you've got a GO on using this pic for your MSN...

Very very nice ^_^ I really love your style of art. Its very original and fresh compared to most of the other stuff you see. Great work ;)

Thank you very much, Hellsing. To be original is what i'm aiming for, and i'm happy that it shows; and more happy that you like it!

Anyone else? I don't bite :P

OK, first off: OHMIGUD. seriously, I've always like sanguinius (I am a BA player after all), and even though I've never been a fan of that kinda comic look, I must say that I absolutely love this picture.

actually, I wanna make a mini based on it. hmmm. *ideas ideas*

I like how you made him intimidating and nbeautiful at the same time, and I LOVE the red. :)

just great. great great great.

now, a question; do you have a deviantArt account? if so, please tell me ;)

if not, get one and tell me when you have it. i wanna fav :D

oh, and chaplain desmodus, I think the large head gives him a more thin and beautiful look. I've always imagined him as a pale, thin angel sort of, who gets his poers from something else than muscles. I think the thin armour helps getting this feel across ^^

Salutations again, brothers...

Glad to see you remember my work. Now, to some answers and details...

What can I say that I haven't already said. It's still my favorite of the pieces. I think it's the way you handled the wings. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you for being always there, Captain! And keep up the great work!

The upper arms and lower torsos bear a strong semblance to Mephiston, or rather Mephiston bears a strong semblance to this rendition of his Primarch.

Thanks, grazer. When doing Primarchs, i tried to keep their designs as somewhat similar to the later incarnations of the Chapter Masters, Chaplains and troops armour. So, yes, there's a bit of Mephiston thrown in there.

Very nice BUT I think that the head is too large, a smaller head would emphasise his god-like being better.

Long time no see, Chaplain! I'm glad you still like my work; on the subject of the head, i didn't want to make sanguinius look too bulky, because i imagined him sort of more stylized than the other Primarchs. And the facat that he had to be light to be able to fly was also a big fact that i had to consider while designing his armour. You'll notice with the others, that they are a bit more 'armoured up' (yes, i made others **shudder**).

Thanks you very much for the enthusiasm, brother_gabriel! I'm really pleased that you like this one, and i do have galleries online. Just check my signature ^_^ .

Unquestionably brilliant, but I would have liked to have seen a blonde Sanguinius - I think it's a key part of the character. I do like the cold, icy feel of the picture, though. It's easy enough to conjure images of nuclear fallout and what must have seemed like the end of Terra.

I'm not too sure about him being empty-handed, though - his fingers are a bit too jagged and claw-like for me. I would have liked to have seen a hefty (and beautifully intricate) sword.

now, a question; do you have a deviantArt account? if so, please tell me :tu:

if not, get one and tell me when you have it. i wanna fav

well, I still really think you should get a DeviantArt account, it's a lot better than photobucket, believe me, and it's generally better than most other online galleries. ah well, you'r choice, but it would be so much easier to see when you submit another picture. :D

btw, I checked your links, and I must say that I really dig your comics. goodbye sister was very, very well done.

Thanks for the compliment, mate. 'Farewell... sister' was my first comic work with the universe of Warhammer 40,000, and it was posted right here on the B&C.

Great work! I saw him and some of your other works on warseer while B&C was down. Are you going to post the others?

Thanks for the kind words Ardus. As to posting the other Primarchs: I'm on it! :D

I like this a lot. The pose is brilliant and full of promise.

As in: you want a fistfight with me? Not one of your best ideas, friend.

Thanks, mate! I'm really glad that you would get that 'feeling' out of this piece, because that is my main concern when illustrating: to get the viewer to feel sensations or the 'emotion' a character is portraying. Happily i've achieved that...

Until soon
