Squiggoth
Long time lurker, new poster here .... I've been playing with Deffskull Orkz for a few years before I dropped 40K for 6th edition WHFB. Got back into 40K when the Plaguemarines were released, but got back to WHFB soon after. :D A few weeks ago I picked up an old Nurgle renegade marine on eBay and that little guy sparked my interest into 40K again, so now I'm building a Deathguard army. Just one squad finished so far .... Some Nurglings and a Lieutenant are next on the to-do-list. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/PlaagmariniersSquadAlpha007a1.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/PlagueMarineChampA007d.jpg
Moribund the Burgermeister
Wow, I really like what you've done there! Painting is top notch and the colous are beautyful! Though I wonder where I've seen that Champion before, it's familiar somehow... Maybe an old model? Moribund.
Colonial Rifle
Oh very nice. Like the simple conversion on the champ - keep it up! :D
Commissar Molotov
Squiggoth, brilliant models. You might want to resize or link your top picture before a mod comes along - pictures are limited to 700px width here. That said, they're brilliantly painted. I like the grey-ish Death Guard, it's far closer to their original scheme, and far more sinister, I think, than the green. Keep up the good job! Squiggoth
Ooops, sorry .... I hadn't noticed the Scrollbar of Doom. Shrank them a bit. @Moribund: it's an old Renegade Marine. Found it on eBay, and it was slightly damaged (flattened Nurgling, missing backpack and wrecked backside) so it had only a handful of bidders. I replaced the weedy old Power Paw with a proper Power Fist, and fixed the backside and the Nurgling in five minutes - easy does it. ^_^
Banesword
Squiggoth, what colours did you use for the armor? I have loads of plaguemarines lying around, this is a nice incentive to begin painting...
Chaplain Desmodus
Ooooh, more pics please. How did you convert the champ?
JeanFrancois
Beautiful, Squiggoth. I love the palette you used... how you toyed with the saturation level of colours to enhance certain details such as the eye lens. And not much red... I find this refreshing in an army nowadays. Things I particularly like is the Aspiring Champion's Backpack. Nice touch. And where did you get that old RoC/RT era backpack that the Icon Bearer is sporting? That's from the same lot you won on Ebay, I'd venture... I'd love to get my hands on some of those. And I'll second Des' request; we need more pics!! Maybe featuring your whole army in a single thread. I remember some of your stuff from Deathguard.Org and it is all very inspiring. Tiberious
Very nice DG. I love the look of them. One question, what was the recipe for the white?
Big O
Great stuff Squiggoth! I saw your WIP on the champ on another site, looks top notch with the completed full squad. A couple minor suggestions: Couple be the pics but the power cables look unfinished. Also, any thought to color on the bases?
migsula
LOVELY work! Most inspirationally nurglish scheme imaginable. I really like how each member is an individual the most.
Squiggoth
Cheers guys! @Banesword/Tiberious: the armour is sprayed black, then painted with slightly watered down Scorched Brown, washed with watered down Chaos Black (which creates a nice dark brown, plus it fills up all the hard-to-reach places with black paint at the same time  ). Then the armour plates are highlighted with successive layers of Graveyard Earth, Commando Khaki and Bleached Bone. No blending or anything, I went for rough vertical stripes to create a look of armour that is covered in weathered pigeon droppings. The champion's armour is done with a basecoat mix of Camo Green and Vomit Brown, with a Scorched Brown/Chaos Black wash for shading, and then highlighted via the original mix with Bleached Bone, towards Vallejo's Ivory, and Skull White for the highest highlights. It sets him off slighty from his troopers, but not too much. The armour trims are Boltgun with various washes (Scorched Brown, Chestnut Ink, Scab Red etc.) and Mithril for the highlights. @Desmodus: first I cut off the original hand below the elbow and replced it with the new power klaw. The gap was filled with white glue (handy filler, that stuff). I used white glue to fix the Nurgling's flattened nose and horn - put glue on a palette, dip a pointy stick in the stuff, dip it on the model and it leaves a little drop. Once dry, repeat that process and the drop will 'grow' into a stud, horn, rivet or Nurgling nose. @JF: long time no see! I got the old backpack (and a bunch more) from some friends of mine who've been playing 40K for ages ... I asked them for 'some old Space Marine bits' since I have mainly Ork bits in my 40K bit boxes, and they came up with Rogue Trader stuff and some ancient Space Quest Chaos Marines. The old backpacks are a bit lacking in detail, but very characterful nonetheless. @Big O: yeah, cables are boring to paint (these are just Codex Grey with a couple of black glazes). B) Some of the bases are devoid of detail because I've got some 28mm scale razorwire lying around somewhere in my house (bought it years ago just in case I ever needed cityfight bases), and I don't remember where. If I can't find it soon I'll add some dead static grass that I'vev just bought (a bone-coloured grass, not very 'Cityfightish' but fitting for Nurgle). http://www.hivenovio.nl/images/smiles/nurgle.gif
Squiggoth
Update on the plague boys. This weekend I've been working on a threesome of Nurgling Swarms. To make them look Mischievous (that Special Rule is one of the reasons I started collecting Deathguard in the first place :P ) I made one of the bases engaged in a snowball fight. There's still some stuff left to do (finish the snowplaguebearer and the bases for example) but most of the work is done. :) http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/40KNurglings004.jpg
Big O
Those are perhaps the best nurglings I have ever seen. :) Lots of character and incredibly well painted for such little buggers. They capture the nurgle spirit perfectly!

Squiggoth
"MMMMOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRREEEEEEE" -Typhus  The little ones are finished and have been tried out in a practice game last Thursday. The three of them ate a full mob of Shoota Boyz and took a bite out of the Warboss before they were finally brought down. Daemonic Saves are handy. :P Next up are 8 more Marines to finish my first 500 points .... Shouldn't be too hard. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/40KNurglings005.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/40KNurglings006.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/squiggothnurgle/Plaguemarines/40KNurglings007.jpg
