1500 points of Deathwing goodness.

I started my Deathwing right before the B&C went down and finished up my 1500 block (the amount our local tourneys have been running at) right before the B&C came back up. Thought I would celebrate by showing them off. They are led by a Chaplain w/thunder hammer, two squads w/2 assault cannons, one squad w/ 2 cyclone missile launchers, one assault squad all with lightning claws except one with thunder hammer and storm shield, and one Land Raider Crusader. I made the tray so I could carry them around from table to table easily. I did not do the normal thing of cutting the holes for the models because I wanted to be able to use the tray for bigger or smaller games or if I want to change out models or squad sizes. I am working on finishing the army out to a full 2000 points.

Well enough ramblings here are the pics.

Thanks for looks. Criticisms and comments are welcomed.

I guess everyone's saying they love the banners, but MAN! You did a really great job with them. My favorite is actually the long, thin one. The sense of movement is really nice. It looks like it's actually being tossed about by wind, which is a feat to accomplish. And I think the stark, geometric iconography is quite nice. Be careful with highlights, though, they look like they do get a bit too chunky. But the army all together has a very nice, coherent feel.

My only big advice would be to play with the land raider a bit more. The highlights are a bit too stark, and compared to the rest of the converted/posed force it seems sorta plain.

Overall: ;)

very nice looking army you got there very clean and i love the individual markings on those puppies :D

especially like the lightning claw guys posing :) not sure about the tank tracks reddish colour but hey thats just my 2 cents kudos on a cool army

Thanks for all the feed back. I do appreciate it.

Thanks for the input on the banners. I like the idea of each squad having it's own standard, but I do not like back banners. So I decided to make a member of each squad a banner bearer. No effects on game play, I just think it looks cool. ^_^ The arms holding the banners are all held on with magnets to make transporting easier.

Inquistor Solana: I agree about the Land Raider. He needs more. I have been toying with the idea of painting a giant DW icon on the top of it and I do have a DA icon pack on it's way.

what kind of a wash did you use to get the recesses brown like that?

I based the models white and then inked them with chestnut ink. Then painted the bleached bone over that, leaving the chestnut in the cracks.

Are those tribal markings on the helmets of certain marines?

Yup, kind of more along the lines of war paint. I like the old native fluff for the DW so I am working toward that. I have a friend starting a lizard man army and he is going to give me all of his extra feather bits and I am starting an Empire army and colleting the sword bits for their waists.

hellsing: That is my goal, 3000pts of Deathwing Goodness, just a little bit at a time. I am currently tied up helping a friend paint his new Tau army (heresy I know but he did ask nicely  ).

Love the chaplain. That green chest eagle is not something I would've dared to do, but it certainly works!

Thanks, the Chappie is my favorite model in this army. I went with the green chest eagle since all the other chest eagles in the army are green. I think it helps tie him into the rest of the army.

Thanks again for all the comments, I really do appreciate them.

Thanks guys, sorry for taking so long to reply, I have been rather busy. :)

Did you convert the "extra" assault cannons so to speak? Or did you just bits order/make a deal with the devil? I am interested to see how you did this.

Actually after buying the termies I needed I was only one assault cannon shy. I was lucky enough to find a metal termie with assault cannon in a bargain bin at the local game store. If you look at the pic of "Assault Cannon squad #1" the one on the far right is the older metal cannon. I used a piece of tubing and a couple strips of plasti-card to make it look more like the current plastic ones. No deal with the devil, if that was the case I would have made him throw in some FW shoulder pads. ;)

Thanks again guys. I appreciate the feedback.
