Aerion the Faithful
Salutations brothers... Well, here i am again, bringing you some more of my artwork. I hope you don't mind :D This is another 'Primarch' piece i did a little time ago. This one portrays Lion El'Jonson, Primarch of the Dark Angels, and i was quite surprised as how this one turned out. I was actually trying to portary something else, but Lion came in the middle of the sketch, and just continued to grow, until this image came into form. I particularly like the lighting on this one, and his expression, since i had been wanting to convey that feeling of someone being deep in thought, ready to join on a Crusade that would conquer the Galaxy... The title is the latin for 'Lion Warrior'. So, without further ado... http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d61/aerion_the_faithful/LeonisProeliatoris.jpg C&C are most welcome, as usual. Librarian- Melechor
Excellent work, I see you drew his head more in proportion with his body. Keep up the good work! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/84572-leonis-proeliatoris/#findComment-977670 Share on other sites
nite_moogle
That shoulder pad is a great idea. I don't think I've seen that before; prepare to have it ripped off en-masse by DA players. I really like the armor, but the head just doesn't seem like it fits with the rest of the drawing (especially since his jaw would be sticking out the bottom of his helmet). Ferrata
I would have to agree, the armour and everything but the face is awesome, but the face lets it down. He looks quite evil and doesnt scream the character he's meant to be. Plus, he needs to get some sun, he's lookin very pale :D Ferrata Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/84572-leonis-proeliatoris/#findComment-977688 Share on other sites
Aerion the Faithful
Excellent work, I see you drew his head more in proportion with his body. Keep up the good work! :) I always try to do everything in proportion, Librarian-Melechor. But, sometimes people can get a little cofused between proportion and my style, that demands an exageration of certain features; the upper part of the body primarily. If you have seen any art by Bruce Timm, you'll know what i mean. Thanks for the compliment. That shoulder pad is a great idea. I don't think I've seen that before; prepare to have it ripped off en-masse by DA players. I really like the armor, but the head just doesn't seem like it fits with the rest of the drawing (especially since his jaw would be sticking out the bottom of his helmet). I would be very happy if i managed to inspire DA players to convert their models :) . The head seems to be something noticed by everyone; but as i said before, its proportions are worked out with according to the particular style that i portray. His chin looks bigger, but that is due to the fact that when you are drawing very simple faces, a more square jawed and big maxilar often convey the feeling of a stern character. While more thin faces convey youth or slenderness. I would have to agree, the armour and everything but the face is awesome, but the face lets it down. He I looks quite evil and doesnt scream the character he's meant to be. Plus, he needs to get some sun, he's lookin very pale :D I don't know about 'evil'. I actually tried to portray him as a very hard looking man, wich (after all) Lion El'Jonson was. This is the way i pictured him to be after spending all those long years in the wild by himself. The pale complexion has to do with the choice of my palette: working black and white restrains some things and to be able to make the face stand up from the rest of the shades upon the illsutration, the lighting has to be much more extreme, therefore paleness is a lot more eye catching that if i just throw a lot of shades over it. Thanks for the comments so far, brothers. Anyone else? Until soon Aerion the Faithful. Tubal
Another good job and my compliments echo those above. I think the head looks good if you take the style into consideration (as one should), the lines on the lips make him look old and wrinkly though :D I'm glad you didn't use the red/black palette that most of your other pieces use (that I've seen) since it would have been out of character for a Dark Angel IMO. What's the logo at the bottom? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/84572-leonis-proeliatoris/#findComment-977766 Share on other sites
Chaplain Lucifer
I think it's a great rendition but I was expection the hair to have a lion'esque feel to it (longer and more "savage") Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/84572-leonis-proeliatoris/#findComment-977793 Share on other sites
Kaldoth
Yet again, another masterful rendition of a primarch ^_^ They just get better and better mate! My only crit is his skin tone really. Though it gives off a hardened veteran feel, Im afraid it makes him look a bit chaosy. If he had a normal skin tone, I think it would look alot better  Great job nonetheless! While more thin faces convey youth or slenderness. It isn't that, the sterness is definetely conveyed, it's that his face is so LONG. I mean, the bridge of his nose is half the length of his entire face from hair to chin. That's a long face. Don't get me wrong, I always dig style, but this particular look really isn't one that meshes well with the traditional Space Marine helmet armor. The shape of the helmet suggests a much more... well, round head. Something a little more squat like a Justice League Superman/Batman/GL head would feel more in place IMO. Khelath
Great stuff, it reminds me of the more morden cartoons around today (ala samuria jack and the clone wars series) in the way that its detailed but still simple enough so you could run off a few poses. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying your coping their style its just a similar style, one which I like a lot. So one last thing... ....Wheres Russ?! Grimdarkness
Why does he have a mk VI or is it a mk VII anyway? :P it looks good and caliban was a dark forested world and jhonson spent his youth in the forest so his pale skin makes sense to me. Great work i want to see vulcan or khan next please. Lazarus valghyran
Why does he have a mk VI or is it a mk VII anyway? 'cause that's what Azrael's got, same helmet. Aerion the Faithful
Hey brothers. Let me say THANK YOU for the great response to this illustration! I'll answer some details... Maybe a new comic in the near future? Thanks Alpha. And about the comic... who knows? I'm glad you didn't use the red/black palette that most of your other pieces use (that I've seen) since it would have been out of character for a Dark Angel IMO.What's the logo at the bottom? Thank you Tubal. Good to hear from you again. I'm actually setting the palette accordingly to the Chapter's predominants colours, so as to have a very distinctive look on each Primarch. So, it's going to be B&W but colours will vary depending on the Primarch. The logo at the bottom is my signature, mate :P . I'll take your suggestion into consideration nite_moogle. Thanks for the feedback. Great stuff, it reminds me of the more morden cartoons around today (ala samuria jack and the clone wars series) in the way that its detailed but still simple enough so you could run off a few poses. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying your coping their style its just a similar style, one which I like a lot. So one last thing.......Wheres Russ?! I appreciate you comparing me to those influences, mate. I'm an admiror of the authors of those cartoons, so, it's no offense at all. Russ is on the Warp of my mind now, waiting to come out... just wait a little while longer... Be interesting to see Corax, methinks. Or Mortarion. I've been asked to do Mortarion a lot when i showed my rendition of the Primarchs, so i guess i'll have to do something with the fallen Primarch... To everyone else who posted, a big thank you and i hope to hear more from you guys. brother_gabriel
Already seen this as I'm cheating a bit by looking at your photobucket once in a while =P but anyways, I do like his face, I think the long face fits him very well, and I've always imagined him looking kinda like this. as for the helmet not fitting the head, well, who cares, it's the style, and a very cool style at that. :P I really like how you got this really comic book type of style both simple, fun and serious at the same time :D kudos to you ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/84572-leonis-proeliatoris/#findComment-978093 Share on other sites
