Basis Idea

Hello. I have an idea for a DIY chapter and I would like to see what you guys think.

Their homeoworld has no name so far but i can certainly describe it. On it, the people are split into those who live in the cities on the high plateus(sp?) and those who live in the fertile valleys. The space marines (name undecided yet) recruit soley from the valley dwellers. (For the plateus, think the Tibetian plateu.) Anyway, the valleys are rich farm land where farmers grow crops for themselves and the people on the plateu. In the valleys, there are many large forests. In these forests there live many wild and strange beasts. These beasts often ravage the farms and therefore, the farmers have to defend themselves. Often, some of the younger farmers launch raids against known lairs of these beats to try and kill them. It is from these raids that the space marines are recruited.

The marines wear black armour. They like to work by themselves and rarely accept the work of others in their missions. Their favoured style of combat is by working behind enemy lines. They prefer the attack the enemy where they are weakest so that they can win with the minimum of casualties. They have been know to work without contact to Imperial officials for years on end in prolonged campaigns, prefer to make contact again when their mission is complete.

Any criticism is very welcome and I plan to expand on this in the future.

Seems like a good start, although you only have the base to build up o. Such things as answering the following questions

- What geneseed are they?

- What founding were they?

- What is their chapter symbol/colour scheme?

- What is their Homeworld like, and what is the culture of the homeworld? (ie is it a Hive World, a Feral World, a Death World etc)

- Where in the Imperium are they based? (It may help define the kind of enemies they face most often.)

- What is their Combat Doctrine like? (do they prefer Close Combat or ranged fighting?)

- What is their Organisation like (do they follow the Codex or are they a bit different?)

- What is their Belief System?

Then just follow on doing a normal IA article works best.

They have been know to work without contact to Imperial officials for years on end in prolonged campaigns, prefer to make contact again when their mission is complete

Not totally sure what you mean by this, care to explain further?

Thanks for the comments.

-Chapter Name: The Nightmares

-Geneseed: Ultramarines

-Founding: Probably around the 7th founding

-Chapter Symbol: 2 crossed scythes

-Homeworld: Kashima. Though they only recruit from the low-land farmers.

-They are based on the far west of the Segmentum Pacificus.

-They follow the Codex Astartes in the organization of the chapter and the company indentification.

-They see the Emperor as the Great Harvester, hence the scythes, who saved the people from the monsters which ravaged the lands.

Because of their homeworld is on the western fringe of the Imperium, they have had to deal with numerous rebellions. In these wars, they have taken matters directly into their own hands in an effort to quell the uprisings. They have been known to use terror tactics on the rebels in a hope that they will surrender. This tactic has often wrked but force is sometimes required. They will disrupt enemy communication systems and if needed, will conduct assassinations to fullfil their mission.

When in battle, they will often fight from behind the enemies lines. This allows them to fight the enemy according to their own lans and also means they can often end the conflicts in the minimum time. The Nightmares prefer to fight on foot as it enables them to attack their enemies where they are most vulnerable. A favoured area of attack is the enemies central command centre. In the case of fighting rebellions, by take out the head, the body will usually die and die fast.

Their homeworld of Kashima is made up of high mountains and plateus and very fertile farmlands. The mountains which form the borders of the the plateus are thousands of metres high. On the plateus, the people live in large, technological cities. However, the lands up here are infertile so they rely on the farmers on the valley floor to provide most of their food. Often in Kashimas history, the High-People as they are known, have asserted dominance and rule of the farmers. This has often led to conflicts between the 2 groups. These conflicts and the feelings of injustice have shaped the farmers into a hardy people. They distrust outsiders but relish in the company of their own. In some of the lower, wetter parts of the Low-Lands, there are widespread rice-fields. It is this which they supply to the High-People. In the drier parts of the Low-Lands they farm live stock. It is in these parts that there are great forests. These forests shelter many dangerous beasts which threaten and ravage the farms. Every so often, some of the more adventurous youth will get together and try to slay these beasts. It is from these parts that the Nightmares recruit.

Spacewolf: Sorry if you didnt get that. lol. The people fo Kashima dont rebel, but people on other planets on the edge of the Imperium rebel and that is where the Nightmares are often called to fight. There is often fighting between the farmers and the High-People of Kashima though they dont rebel against the Imperium. The farmers see that the High-People are taking undue control over them.
