1000marines
So here is the thing: I'm plasticarding extra armor for my rhino, but I still haven't fully figured out wheere and what kind of plates I'm gonna do. Has anyone ever done extra armor on a rhino himself (apart from the improvised put some tracks on top method). So no Forgeworld stuff, I'v seen it all. And cool as it looks, it lacks front and top plates imho. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/ Share on other sites
Havock
I used it for a predator, is that good too? http://members.lycos.nl/durandalarw/40k/pred%20front%202.JPG Simple tiled plasticard will do. Your pic was larger than 700 and was screwing up the formatting. Changed it into a link. //scuz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/#findComment-989190 Share on other sites

Black_Lightning
lil hint as well. For my spaced armour i used white cardboard (without the foam core) of 1 mm. Hella cheap (paid like 5 euro's for A3 size board last year), easier to cut, and looks just as well imho. i'll see if i can get some pics on orso Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/#findComment-990470 Share on other sites

Cptn. Palladorus
Inspired by actual tank designs: Find plasticard with grooves cut in it, like bricks, and apply to all flat surfaces for reactive armor. Once that's done, get some scale model (model train stores are your friend) chain link fence, turn it 45 degrees so the wires run horizontally and vertically, and cut pieces to fit around your exhausts/power plant, and you've got slat armour, protecting against rpgs. Search for pictures of the Stryker Interim Combat Vehicle for pics of the slat armour, and of the M1 Abrams TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) for the supplemental reactive armour. Legion Prime
While we're on the subject, how about extra armour for the old Rhino? The one with the round doors and hatches. I was just gonna go it on my own but then I saw this and thought I'd see if any of you guys had any ideas and/or experience. Gator_of_Bahamut
I've always thought the Forge World reinforced armor was rather nice looking, but of course you have to pay for it... I prefer the reinforced to the spaced, though. As for real life inspiration, take a look at up-armored vehicles in real life. As somone said, the M1A2 with a TUSK is a good place to look. The Merkava Mk. 3 or 4 with the LIC kit. I have even seen model supply stores carry replicas of the ball & chain armor used on the back of the skirt to protect against RPGs. Of course, if your chapter has it rough, you can always resort to modern technology. Shinobi_soldier
Just use plasticard to mimic the forge world one. If you do it right no one will know until you tell them... that would impress lots of people. That ball and chain armour is really cool Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/#findComment-1083434 Share on other sites
seven324
[just remembered i had an account here, seriously] well this is not exactly a rhino, but since these pictures were taken the guy on top has fallen, off i since i scrapped the idea cant be bothered to fix it[was at first going to be a heavy weapon platform, but i think ill convert it to a heavyier armoured rhino, i know this is a PA forum, but, it gives you an idea] http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1136/3994644/8287255/111054522.jpg http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1136/3994644/8287255/111054555.jpg http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1136/3994644/8287255/111054584.jpg http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1136/3994644/8287255/111054607.jpg also since these were taken, i have added a second back door plate, used the lid from the GW battlefield thingies ammo crate on the two rhino side doors[as like a better lock/extra armour [long one] and added a fe more pouches ect Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/#findComment-1083826 Share on other sites

FreakForge
I made the extra armour with plasticard and later put some "sculptures" to make the rhino ( well, in fact is a Predator , but you got the point :P ) look more gothic. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i305/FreakForge/SideWIPI.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i305/FreakForge/TankSideI.jpg FreakForge Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85495-upgrading-ye-old-rhino/#findComment-1128819 Share on other sites
