Upgrading ye old rhino

Recommended Posts

So here is the thing: I'm plasticarding extra armor for my rhino, but I still haven't fully figured out wheere and what kind of plates I'm gonna do.

Has anyone ever done extra armor on a rhino himself (apart from the improvised put some tracks on top method). So no Forgeworld stuff, I'v seen it all. And cool as it looks, it lacks front and top plates imho.

Bradley inspired there Havoc?

Inspired by actual tank designs: Find plasticard with grooves cut in it, like bricks, and apply to all flat surfaces for reactive armor. Once that's done, get some scale model (model train stores are your friend) chain link fence, turn it 45 degrees so the wires run horizontally and vertically, and cut pieces to fit around your exhausts/power plant, and you've got slat armour, protecting against rpgs. Search for pictures of the Stryker Interim Combat Vehicle for pics of the slat armour, and of the M1 Abrams TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) for the supplemental reactive armour.

I've always thought the Forge World reinforced armor was rather nice looking, but of course you have to pay for it... I prefer the reinforced to the spaced, though.

As for real life inspiration, take a look at up-armored vehicles in real life. As somone said, the M1A2 with a TUSK is a good place to look. The Merkava Mk. 3 or 4 with the LIC kit. I have even seen model supply stores carry replicas of the ball & chain armor used on the back of the skirt to protect against RPGs. Of course, if your chapter has it rough, you can always resort to modern technology.

[just remembered i had an account here, seriously]

well this is not exactly a rhino, but since these pictures were taken the guy on top has fallen, off i since i scrapped the idea cant be bothered to fix it[was at first going to be a heavy weapon platform, but i think ill convert it to a heavyier armoured rhino, i know this is a PA forum, but, it gives you an idea]

also since these were taken, i have added a second back door plate, used the lid from the GW battlefield thingies ammo crate on the two rhino side doors[as like a better lock/extra armour [long one] and added a fe more pouches ect

I made the extra armour with plasticard and later put some "sculptures" to make the rhino ( well, in fact is a Predator , but you got the point :P ) look more gothic.
