First pics of St. Damien's Wrath; Dreadnought and my failed GD ent

Alright, so to preface this post, I'mma tell you that I just started playing WH40k recently and I had never attempted to paint a miniature in my life before December '05ish. That said, I'm getting better every day and I am becoming frigging obsessed with this hobby. I'm a conversion freak, too.

So I've taken pictures of most of my army, and I'll be posting them up gradually. My army is St. Damien's Wrath, and you can read about 'em here: http://bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=85486

Anyway, here we go. First off is Gehenna, my GD entry from Atlanta '06 (I figured "Hey, if I so much as make first cut, I have bragging rights over my friends who've been playing/painting for years.") Of course, I didn't win anything, nor did I make first cut. But it was fun, and a major learning experience. I'm in the process of redoing the heretics' post, hence the unpainted part; I'm magnetizing him now, to minimize risk of him BREAKING OFF his pin. Also the brazier-pole on the right-side sponson has broken off, so its absent in the pictures ;0. The idea is that its a mobile witchburning platform ;0.

Next is an Inquisitor I painted as a "test" before tackling my other Inquisitors. Basically, I had two of the limited ed. witchhunter Inquisitor Lorr, and one of the regular Witchhunter boxed set w/ retinue. I kept one of them unconverted and chopped up the other two to make conversions, which I'll post later. Here is the unconverted "test" model:

Finally, here is a WIP dreadnought that I will possibly enter in Chicago this year. The story behind this is that it is a Chaplain, interred in the dreadnought so he could serve on and continue to offer his wisdom. He is aptly named "Methuselah" and he will be painted in a Chaplain's color scheme. I need to re-do the Inquisitorial =I=, and I will be shaving off the Black Templar cross to avoid confusion (I don't want people to think its a Black Templar dread due to the black Chaplain color scheme ;o). The torso is magnetized, and I have a bunch of different magnetized arms for it as well. The burning censer/mace will have wisps of cotton smoke in the end, to simulate the incense . I plan on also doing an oversized Crozius CCW for the dread <_<.

So there you go, some of my work. I'll post some of my actual marine squads in a little while; this is some of my more recent stuff, so the marines I post later will be crappier in quality. :P

Feedback appreciated, though the LRC and Inquisitor won't be worked on any further. Thanks!

I like the dreadnought, and the crusader is really nice, the shield looks a little weird though, too big maybe. Now that I know that Eisenhorn's staff skull fits in a dread, I can use it to make my Chaplain dread. Thanks for the nice Land Raider and the confirmation about the skull.

Yeah, the blast shield was something I had to do; to construct the platform for the heretic I needed to cover the hatch that the meltagun is supposed to sit in. Thus, I had to move it to a different hatch and there wasn't room for the original blast shield. I also needed a good surface to put the Gehenna banner, so I figured what the hell. Its a little wonky.

:)

I'm really liking your dreadnought, it has some really good touches like the Eisenhorn staff skull as a head, the brazier, and the detail on the legs is very good. What is that massive back plate that you've used?

I feel the morning star/ wrecking ball/censer you've added looks slightly over the top though.

It seems like the dread is falling backwards and to one side as well, maybe you can correct that.

Wow! Seems like you've really gone into the hobby whole hog in the last few months. I love the idea of a Chappie interred in a dread, it adds a lot of character to the model. What did you use for the dread's "back plate?"

The backplate for the dread is two Penitent Engine shoulder plates, side by side, with some pewter power cables wound down the middle. www.dragonforge.com for the cables. :)

Thanks for the critique guys, it actually means quite a bit to me.

The pose does need some minor correction; hes a bit off-balance, yeah. As for the censer being over-the-top...yeah, it is >. I love it, though. I'll have multiple magnetized CCW arms though, so we'll see.

Blckbuster: Not daemonhost-powered, but around my store people have taken to calling it "Penitent Power

I like idea of a massive censor/wrecking ball thingy. I think it fits perfectly with the idea of the army. However, the "smoke holes" for lack of a better term seem a little haphazardly placed. I doesn't look like a censor. If I may make a suggestion, look up pictures of a "thurible." That is the technical term for the censors that the Anglican and Roman Catholic and maybe even the Orthodox churches use. Those should give you a good idea of how the smoke holes should be placed. I hope that helps.

Wow! That Dread is awesome, I like the Servo-skull head and the fact that it's magnetized! You gotta love those cables! I'd have to agree with removing the crux on his waist, people might mistake that for BT easily...

Nothing marks a Chalpin more than skulls though.. can't wait to see more! and btw that's what my stuffs like too as I get better and better the older stuff gets crappier and crappier but hey what can you do! RetroFIT!
