The Scourges of Quintus

Recommended Posts

Herrow!

Please exscuse the photography (it's not my forte) I had to rely on natural lighting and Photoshop adjustments to make them look decent.

Here are some shots of models that I painted while the B&C was down:

Heavy Bolter marine.

Thanks everyone. :P

That Obliterator is amazing, it's a shame your not doing anymore :D

Could I ask how the bone effect is painted on the horns?

Oh but I will paint another Obliterator as soon as I've done a few more rank and file troopers.

I used the following to paint the bone:

chaos black undercoat.

Scorched brown basecoat, highlighted up through bestial brown, bleached bone and finally skull white. I'm sorry but I don't remember the mix ratios.

Wow! those guys look amazing, you must have a steady hand to paint that neat.

If I had one complaint it would be they look too clean, maybe a quick light drybrush with some beastial brown?

thanks for the suggestion but they are a tad more dirty-looking in reality.

Hmm, the gold looks a little too clean for my taste, but other than that, really great work :)

Another thing though, how do you paint the skin? Would like to know

The skin on the marines were painted as follows:

Undercoat - chaos black.

Basecoat - fortress grey.

hightlight - codex grey mixed with skull white

final highlight - skull white.

The obliterator skin was a tad different because at first I had painted all the flesh (apart from his face) in normal flesh colors. So it's actually like the above procedure, but with the previous layers of flesh and blood colors underneath.

Love the Oblit and "mr goggles"! My favorite Night Lords.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Uh oh, I think I see a mold line on the heavy bolter. Or is it my aging eyes?

You have good eyes, it has since been removed. :P

Very nice painting. I especially like the oblit. What head did you use on the powersword AC?

CLG

I used a normal 'bathead' from the NL box link.

are those symbols hand painted?
I take it you mean the ones on the shoulderpads? No that isn't freehand (I only painted my first freehand item last night hehe) that is the old NL waterslides (I don't like the new ones you see)
Any chance on doing Raptors?, being that they are NL. Again awesome.

While not a big fan of raptors anymore, I do have a crappy pic of my undivided raptor cult that I sometimes use as allies for my Nightlords. I may expand them sometime. :P

I'm slowly getting there.

a full 1500pt army for Medusa V is a possibility.

Here is the latest addition:

Please exscuse the crappy lighting, first thing I'll be doing after this army is finished; is a project to build a "light box" for taking better pics of minis.

The skull on the pad isn't a decal, it's my first attempt at freehand.

Here's a better picture of the skull:

  • 4 weeks later...

@Obliterator

I'm not brave enough to attempt wrecking it. :P

Sorry for the slow updates (I paint slow as well)

I'm still trying to gather some form of resemblance of an army for Medusa V.

Here are two models, which I painted before the crash and subsequently ruined with GW's varnish. They turned all grey, gooey and lumpy. I've scraped most of the varnish off with a scalpel and repainted certain areas.

Due to the lightning you won't be able to see the shading and highlights on the LT's helmet and the skulls look very white.. but the models still look fuzzy from the varnish, GW Varnish .. never again.. :)

Plasma gunner:

(I left some room for a freehand later, sometime in the future.. in year 2040 or so.. )
