Salamander Assault Terminators

Recommended Posts

Didn't build these, just painted them. Tried a lot of new things on them, not sure I'm entirely happy with the final results on the green though. First 4 pics are of just 2 minis, they have magnetics in the arms.

A quick photoshop auto colour thingy. Make sit alot brighter and takes away the orange tint thing. However it seems a bit drowned in white like that. Is it more like the real life one? Seems to add a bit to the green IMO.

Anywho I love them, I love/hate looking at good painters models, a mixture of envy and awe!

Very nice!

I like them,

But being a Sallies player my self I know where Kurgan's coming from here. Snot green is a very flat colour! The highlights don't stand out well, probably because of the photo! I found it's often good to shade the green slightly aswell! Make them slightly darker so the highlights stand out more.

However they look relly cool. I like the forgworld pads, which is good as i've got some on order too! Lots of bronze to ofset the green and black which is nice too! Maybe some flames or other iconocraphy like anvils and hammers on some of the flatter areas may break up the green a bit!

Red eyes though whats goin on there? Always though they looked better with yellow eyes! :D

Nice Work and it's good to see some Sallie Terminators, a big thumbs up from me there!

I

they look sweet kurgan. the top two look a little flat but im picking thats just the photo quality coz the bottom 2 are better.. i like the green nice and smooth. how have you achieved that gold / bronze look?

sweet blends on the flames too.. got any other angles?

The flames are hawt!!

But indeed, maybe the green could need some highlights...or..hm, I just see that you did the shadow-lining with green ink. Maybe that makes them look a little monochrome. Maybe you could try some other colour (doesn't have to be black).

Edit: well I guess it's at least partly green ink... if not, ignore my comment.

Greens are like so: DA Green - 50/50 DA/Snot - Snot - 50/50 Snot/Goblin and the final higlight is an old Ral Partha color called Proserpina Green. Which is what I have used in the past but it didn't come off so well for some reason.

The Red Eyes -- I've always done Sals with Red Eyes (harkens back to RT days when they could see in the Infra Red spectrum -- so to keep consistent with the army, these ones got red'uns.

Flames: Flames used 12 colors and I start from the top down.

RP Blood Red

RP Sword of Light Red

RP Red

RP Flamekin Red

VMC 910 Orange Red

VMC 956 Light Orange

VMC 851 Deep Orange

VMC 911 Light Orange

GW Golden Yellow

IWM Yellow

RP Yellow

RP Lantern Yellow

mind you the flames are part of the shoulder pad and if they weren't there I'd probably never have done them, seeing as how I have all the free hand skill of a rock.

You can see other members of the Army just by going to the link in my sig. The army belongs to different people these days but as with this unit, they occassionally get a new squad every now and then.

Great Termies kurgan! Although your green is very flat looking. Try going darker. DA green and the likes. Although you did do a base of that, you chose goblin green as your highlight color, which is very dull, creating the effect on them of dullness.

Thanks for posting your number one though :) Couldn't figure out how to do mine!

Very cool!

Artimis

@inkaras: Magnets, depending on the magnet, will hold very well. And depending on the object that is being magnetized, also determines the strength. On something like arms, they work very well. :tu:

@kurgan: How exactly do you do your bronze?

Ink, as I said, I did not build these so I can't tell you how easy they were to install.

As for the gold/bronze. It is just layers of color and washes.

Start with a Brazen Brass base, then Burnished Gold, Shining Gold and then a 50/50 Shining Gold/Chainmail mix. Each one gets a wash of FFW/FleshWash/Black Ink mix before the next color goes on.
