death given form
Hello fellow frateris. I remember a chapter from before the great fall, problem is I can't remember anything about it. I am trying to create mt own Samurai themed chapter, but I don,t want my ideas to conflict with anyone elses. So if the brother or sister who posted about the Nipponese marines could inform of the backstory they came up with, I would be most appreciative. Also, any ideas for a cahpter symbol or any conversion help would be looked upon with much gratitude! Thanks in advance! Dasleah
There's a bit about the Bushido Astartes in my fluff post ( ++Dasleah Astartes++ ) but I too would like to see other player's ideas and thoughts on the theme of the Bushido Astartes. The warrior code of bushido seems to fit well with the Space Marines, so I for one can't see why there aren't more of samurai-themed Chapters out there. NINmaestro
**hisses violently like a really mad cat Can't stand how people always want to do samurai themed armies! anyways, take a look at the old Japanese clan crests and that might give you and idea what you are trying to emulate. If you wanted to go nuts and emulate the Imperial Court of Japan, the old one, get pictures of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum and that will suffice for a chapter symbol. space wolf
If you really want your fluff to be accurate, I recomend you read BUSHIDO by Inazo Nitobe....fascinating book that puts the japanese perspective on bushido into a western point of view. Cptn. Palladorus
The Hagakure and Musashi's Go Rin No Sho (Book of Five Rings) are definitely recommended reading. Pay special attention to the Water book (the one on strategy). And please please PLEASE make them like real samurai, not anime samurai. In other words they should be mounted archers whose secondary weapon was the spear or halberd and the long sword as a last ditch attempt to die with honor at least in battle, and poets and artists in addition, rather than frothy mouthed berserkers. We've already got enough of the latter with the pups. Oh, and interesting fact: In either Deus Encarmine or Deus Sanguinius, I forget which one, the BA librarian is doing katas with his force axe. So martial arts have survived to the 41st millennium in one form or another, even among the Romanian vampire chapters. Severus6
Instead of a straight Samurai concept for a Chapter have you considered maybe them being more like the Sohei (warrior priests). Many of them were former Samurai who took up the cause,...granted they were not as restricted by the code as the others were but they still revered the Emp and defended the people against what they saw as abuse by the Shogunate. Just a thought, hope it helps. Severus6 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86159-samurai-themed-marines/#findComment-997736 Share on other sites
xRagex
I know there was a guy who I think was on Dakka Dakka who had a huge samurai based chapter, I can't find the link but I hope this helps you a bit. Darrell
I know there was a guy who I think was on Dakka Dakka who had a huge samurai based chapter, I can't find the link but I hope this helps you a bit. I believe the name of that Chapter was "The Divine Wind", and the symbol was the rising sun I believe. He had some really nice conversions, in particular the Command Rhino with dozer blade (It was the coolest looking tank EVER), and a Techmarine on a bike that had forward-facing knives mounted on the sides of the front tires. The Master had smoke launchers mounted on the top of terminator armor, and most of the Marines had katana for close combat weapons, and some even had small headbands with the rising son on the front. I know one of the Chapter colors was a kind of deep purple; I don't remember the other. It was a nice Chapter; there were a lot of cool armies featured on Dakka a while back, but those links have vanished from the listing on the main site. Anyway, there's a little more information on a Dakka Dakka samurai Chapter. Severus6
Not brilliant, just plausible,...and its not like the concept hasnt been used. The DA and BT have the market practically cornered in this arena. The difference here would be one of attitude. No secrets to hide, no permanently extended crusade,... just a straight forward mission. To defend and protect the holdings and citizens of the Emperor, to destroy or neutralize those who would wish to do harm to those citizens or holdings, and spread the glory and light of the Emperor to those who have fallen into shadow. Raw_fishFood
Ah... before the crash, I had a Samurai Chapter going myself. I'm at work right now, and all I had saved on is probably on my home computer. I've got some pictures if you'd like to see: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v724/UsagiNinja/samuraimarine.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86159-samurai-themed-marines/#findComment-1101191 Share on other sites
